Summary: Not enough, too expensive for what you get.
Review: A shame that more available food items aren't available in this LITTLE book. Shocked by the small size and content. However, the book has helped a bit, but DIET REVOLUTION has most of this material (of substance) and IS RECOMMENDED with 6 stars out of only 5 possible. Have lost 90 lbs and going for more. Thank you, Dr. Atkin... expand this book and I will appreciate paying for it.

Summary: Handy little carb counting tool!
Review: This is Atkins pocketsized Carbohydrate Gram Counter updated and expanded.

For each food item listed carbs, fiber, net carbs, protein, fat and calories are included. A nice difference between this and the older version of the book is the inclusion of net carbs.
The net carb of a food is the impact it will make on your body. These are the only carbs you need to count because they exclude carbohydrates and sugar alcohols.

The mini book begins with an introduction that explains the science behind why it's carbohydrates we need to be concerned with not fat. Then the book gives a very basic overview of the Atkins plan. One page also gives portion size guidelines. Really handy. For example 2T peanut butter is about the size of 2 teabags.

The rest of the book is devoted to food and beverage counts. Though the book is not as comprehensive as a larger book such as Corrine Netzger's Book of Food Counts it covers quite a few foods.

If you are only purchasing one guide, I would purchase a larger one as it is more comprehensive. But its really helpful to have this little book in your purse, pocket or car for quick checks of what you are eating.

The small size makes it easy to tote. The back of the book gives tips for dining out and has a small list of popular restaurants and the counts for their food items.

I liked the book so well, I purchased two. One for my purse and the other for quick checks on the kitchen counter!

Summary: Not worth much
Review: Since it is an "Atkins" book, it would have been wise to show "fiber" carbs, since this would have allowed the reader to subtract this to arrive at "net" carbs. It doesn't. Really unbelievable.

Summary: A good book from what I have heard.
Review: My father is on the Atkins diet, and didn't know a whole lot except meat was 'okay'. So, I grabbed this book for him. He never has that book far from reach.

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: mis-leading to say the least!
Review: One would think that since Atkins counts only "digestible" carbs that the carbs in this book would be the Atkins carbs, not the total carbs. BUT, this book shows you the total carbs and no accompanying info on fiber so that you can net it out. USELESS! The Eades duo have a counter that I just ordered which is written up as giving you the "net carbs" that low-carb dieters need. Hopefully that will be the book I need.

Summary: This Book Is The Answer
Review: I read this book from cover to cover and I often review it. I have lost over 50 pounds and have managed to keep the weight off for over a year. Anyone who says this book isnÕt informative enough either (1) hasnÕt read it thouroughly (2) doesnÕt have good comprehension skills (3) didnÕt like what they read because they were finally told the truth about their obesity and they donÕt want to give up donuts and spaghetti. This diet isnÕt for the weak. You must give up bread, pasta, sugar, starchy veggies and yes, you must give up donuts. But the results are phenominal. The sacrifices seem harsh in the beginning, but if you stick with it, soon your food cravings for flour and sugar disappear along with a large percentage of your out of control appetite. This diet is the only diet that worked for me. I really believe Dr. Atkins is a saint!

Summary: Goor for quick reference, but very basic
Review: This little book was helpful to me to get started. But I found that I was wanting more. There are many foods that are not listed in this little book and it leaves you wondering if you should or shouldn't include these items in your diet.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Excellent and helpful little booklet
Review: A very handy companion for shopping and preparing meals. It will help you find the right stuff to eat and makes choosing a healhty variety to eat easy and fun. Concise, easy to read and worth every penny. This is only a simple little pocket-sized booklet, yet that makes it handy and fun to carry with you. I can recommend it!

Summary: NOT COMPLETE BUT STILL VERY HELPFUL
Review: I will agree that the listings here are not as complete as they could be; however, I believe this was written as a quick reference guide and in that sense, the book does indeed have a useful purpose. Yes, you probably will get much of the information, if not more, from "the label on the can or package," but if you are on the run and do not happen to be carrying the label around with you, this is the next best thing. Also bear in mind, some of those labels were meant for those with 20/20 vision, or those who tote around a magnifying glass just to read teensy-weensy print! Some labels almost shout at you, "Here is a list of the contents, but we really don't think you should read it!" This makes a handy, quick-reference resource book for many, but definitely not all, common listings and it appears this is the way the author intended the book to be used. For the small price of the book, what more could one expect?
