Summary: Helps you understand and heal
Review: This book was extremely helpful to me in overcoming problems with anxiety. It has great factual information that helped me to learn more about anxiety, its causes, the different types, the symptoms, etc. It also has an extremely thorough and comprehensive program to help overcome anxiety, including advice on exercise, diet, medication, therapy, self-talk exercises, relaxation, affirmations, spirituality ... truly a broad and multi-faceted approach to a sticky problem.

I think one of the best things about the workbook is how it makes you realize you're not alone -- that anxiety is a widespread problem, that your symptoms are familiar and documented, and that they can be treated and even cured.

Summary: Just what I was looking for!!
Review: This book was first introduced to me by by therapist, and I am so grateful!! It isn't just reading material, it has step by step instructions and exercises to follow. This book won't take the place of a therapist or counselor, but it can definately be a BIG help when used at home. If you are serious about getting over your anxieties and phobias, you should look into buying this book. It has truly truly helped me :)

Summary: Book title should include "Relaxation" also
Review: This is a great book for anyone who is stressed. I do counseling and I recommend this book to nearly all my adult clients because it is so practical and has so many specific helpful ways to reduce anxiety and stress. I would like to see a chapter added to address these concerns in children also although this text is good for teens as well as adults. It is not necessary to be in therapy to find this book helpful.

Summary: Very well put together...talks about it!
Review: This is a very good book for those feeling the anxiety of simple social situations on up to dealing with moderate panic. It's helped me to realize some major things that have helped to shape me and keep me an anxious person.

Summary: Gets you back on the horse...
Review: This is a wonderful book that helps you to understand anxiety at it's root and how to overcome it. I found it VERY enlightening and easy to understand. I think the most important thing the book does is help you to understand where anxiety comes from, and that you are NOT alone -- 1/3 of our society suffers from some form of anxiety. I also found the nutritional aspects very interesting as well (sometimes it's as simple as altering your diet or getting more of a certain vitamin or amino acid).

A few of years ago, out of the blue, I suddenly began having panic attacks. I found this book by chance, at a bookstore (I knew I made a good choice when the cashier went on and on about how much it helped her) and I am very grateful I found it when I did. Had I not overcome my fears, I would have missed out on many wonderful things that my anxiety would have prevented me from experiencing -- including traveling to Europe. During that difficult year, just imagining a 9-hour flight used to bring up all sorts of anxieties. I decided I could not let this fear stand in the way of a once-in-a-lifetime experience, so when the time came, I took a little GABA (an amino acid recommended in the book) and packed a tiny notebook with helpful things from the workbook in my bag. However, truth be told, I never needed to open that notebook because of the way the book re-trains your mind to THINK... you can "talk yourself out of attacks" when you feel them coming on. I am happy to say that, not only did I make that first trip overseas, I went on a second overseas trip the following year (this time to Greece!). Thanks to this book, I have not had a panic attack in almost three years.

I highly recommend this book.

Summary: It really is the right reading for confronting anxiety
Review: This is really the best, most current and effective approach to confront and relieve intense anxiety. There is no hyping any particular psychological school of thought and no self-hype.

I worked through sections of the book with a good psychologist. It's been two years and I am so thankful I used the book. The benefits are very tangible to this day.

Summary: Enough With The Bad Parenting!
Review: This was a great book in explaining the causes and triggers of anxiety and panic. The treatment section seemed to rely a bit too much on other book's and therapist's methods.
The main problem I had was the constant focus on bad parenting as the source of why some suffer from panic and others don't. Parents don't TRY to instill panic and anxiety in their children. They were doing what they thought was right.
As for the book's contents, I had much more success with the Barlow & Craske program on Mastery of your Anxiety and Panic.

Summary: If you work it, it will work for you.
Review: Too many books in the "self-help" genre are filled with hollow, obvious advice and empty platitudes. This is the only book I've encountered that helps me work with my anxiety, and provides practical tools that have helped me improve my situation.

Because I have a certain type of anemia, Paxil, Effexor and the like are out of the question for me because all that stuff is toxic to my system. That being said, I am really forced to rely on other, non-chemical means of relief for my panic. And this book is the ONLY one I rely on and use. It's called a workbook for a reason ... it demands that you roll up your sleeves, grab a pencil and work with it. And if you work it, it will work for you. I've given this as a gift to friends and mental health professionals, and they all love it. If you're dealing with anxiety, depression, phobias, General Anxiety Disorder, then this is the only book you need.
