Rating: Summary: IN MEDITATION THERE IS PEACE AND BEAUTY! Review: If you have never tried meditation, or discovered the peace, beauty and serenity it can bring, then as the saying goes,"Don't knock it until you have tried it!" For those who live their life according to Buddhist Philosophies, meditation is a part of your life. You will know that mindfulness is a way of walking the path of life and being at peace and harmony with yourself and the world."Wherever You Go, There You Are" is a beautifully written book; even if you do not meditate, the reader will find solace and inner peace throughout the pages of this book. It is like sitting in a beautiful, enchanted garden, where there is no suffering or pain, only peace and beauty in everything we see. If you are on a spiritual quest for a more positive, happier and harmonious life, do not miss this book. It projects wisdom, truth and mindfulness - the way to a simpler yet more fulfilling life. I also highly recommend the Dalai Lama's, "The Art of Happiness," and "Awakening the Buddha Within" by Lama Surya Das (my reviews are also available on these books.) With dedication, commitment and an open mind on the part of the reader these books have the capability to transform and enrich your life.
Rating: Summary: WISDOM WITHOUT ARROGANCE.................. Review: Wisdom is a gift from the divine and arrogance is a gift from the mundane. If one's wisdom is such that it evokes admiration for the thought rather than for the thinker, then one has indeed spoken well. Otherwise, it becomes a contest of arrogance, and the one who is more arrogant having the last word in the school of vanity! Jon Kabat-Zinn's wisdom is without arrogance, thus assuring him a unique place in the school of enlightenment.
Rating: Summary: Powerful meditation techniques Review: These techniques proved of much more value to me after reading Conversations with God and An Encounter With A Prophet. Having removed all of my unconscious fears of the spiritual world I could go into a much deeper, peaceful and meaningul meditative state.
Rating: Summary: A great complement to Kabat-Zinn's first book. Review: In Jon Kabat-Zinn's first book, Full Catastrophe Living, he details the relationship between stress and health and outlines his program for reclaiming your life. True to his style of revealing the extraordinary aspects of the otherwise ordinary, this book shows the reader how to enrich many day-to-day activities through mindful living. I particularly enjoyed the format. The book first introduces the reader to the concept of mindfulness and then it provides short chapters about how mindfulness can be applied to various aspects of life. Making the chapters short and focused on a particular facet allows the reader to quickly read and apply the techniques in a step-wise fashion, incrementally applying mindfulness to different aspects of life.
Rating: Summary: Exceptional down-to-earth introduction to meditation Review: I started this book and could not put it down. Dr. Kabat-Zinn captured many truths that so many of us mindlessly ignore. I have read several books on meditation and this is by far the best. I have read this book a couple times now, and each time I see more truth in it. This book offers a wonderful and wise perspective on the journey of life. I highly recomend this book to anyone.
Rating: Summary: Practical Introduction to Mindfullness Meditation Review: I enjoyed the book as it provided a "non-cluttered" approach to adding meditation to our everyday lives without getting caught up in all the various theologies, etc that are often a part of such instruction.
Rating: Summary: Inspirational...AND Practical? Review: Absolutely! :) I guess I would just like to echo the various voices already singing this book's praises. Meditation IS possible in the world we live in today--and Jon Kabat-Zinn shows us how in a very beautiful, easily readable, yet thought-provoking manner. I had the pleasure of meeting both the author and his wife at a recent seminar on mindful parenting and sense that they truly LIVE these words, though each in their own unique way. And perhaps that's the beauty of mindfulness meditation--for ALL of us! Destined to be a classic (if not already.) Read it. Learn it. Live it. You won't regret it.
Rating: Summary: This really works ! Review: I am not a meditator, I do not practice yoga, but this book works; reading it helped me work with my daily life stresses .
Rating: Summary: 5000 STARS, IF THAT'S POSSIBLE Review: i don't have any particular credentials to convince you this book is pure gold, and a part of me says why bother trying anyway, but here goes. if you're the kind of person who believes in serendipity, who believes that when the student is ready the teacher appears, then "as eggs are eggs" (my father's favorite saying) you will stumble across this book in your own sweet time. i should know; i've stumbled across it twice. the first time some years ago i was intrigued but not ready. the second time some months ago i fell on my knees. as far as the sheer joy of meditation is concerned, i direct your attention to lorin roche's accessible "meditation made easy". but for the full effect, i recommend you follow up with "wherever you go..." wherever you go. apart from being a beautiful treatise on life, it'll deepen your understanding of the process and pick up "meditation made easy's" slack -- a remarkable work in every sense, don't get me wrong. with this book, kabat-zinn has fashioned something of a small miracle. and i, for one, intend giving away as many copies as i can in the vain hope you will stumble across one of them! until then, good luck navigating your way through this amazing, infuriating, beautiful, ugly, ordered, chaotic life.
Rating: Summary: Truer than true Review: While reading the book I felt that Jon Kabat-Zinn knew me personally and that he was speaking of me and to me. I practice this and Yoga now, and to speak frankly this has saved my life. My life is much calmer as am I. I still deal with things in my mind...BUT, I am dealing with things now that have haunted me for over 40 years. This book explains life and what is important. I wish I could give everyone this book and that they could read and understand themselves. This is better education than the masters I hold. I wish that this was taught in schools. It has truely changed my life.
