Summary: One of the best self-help books ever written
Review: Of all the self-help books I've read, this one is the best! I agree with the other reviewers who said that this one book says it all. It tells you why so many good self-help ideas work for a while and then stop. This book doesn't stop after you've finished reading it. The part about how we got programmed from an early age, and then keep living out those programs was especially helpful to me. But then Dr. Helmstetter goes on to tell you exactly what to do to change the negative programs and replace them.

I also found it very readable and easy to understand. I read that it's published in 65 countries around the world and I can understand why. It makes so much sense. This is one of those seminal books that everyone should read first. It is also very easy to read. Dr. Helmstetter avoids all the psychological jargon and writes directly to the reader in words that anyone can understand. (I gave a copy to my 13 year-old daughter, and even she got it.) Of all the books in my self-talk library, this one is in first place. It's written for adults, but I wish someone had given this book to me when I was 13. It would have changed my life then, just as it has changed my life now. On a scale of 1 - 5, this book gets 10 stars.

Summary: one of the most practical books I've ever read
Review: Our thoughts effect our life. We get our thoughts and ideas about life and ourselves from different resources. However, the author of this book is showing that the most important source of where we get our thoughts is we create them by ourselves. We tell our thoughts to ourselves. The main point of this book is to make a person away of how he or she talks to himself, and mentally programs oneself. What a person tells himself about his experiences, feelings and other poeple in life is important. We trust ourselves, and what we tell to ourselves will effect us, whether it is good or bad. It is our inner mental reality that we create by ourselves is what inevitably will effect us. All of us talk to ourselves. What we say to ourselves is what effects us, but not the real expeirences outside of ourselves. The htoughts we create within ourselves, and the thoughts that we say to ourselves effect us. If we want to create a different life, we need to develop awareness and talk to ourselves in a different way than we are used to talking. We are able to mentally motivate ourselves, to cheer ourselves up and to love ourselves, no matter what our external environment has to offer us. We are capable of achieving and doing so much in and with our lives, and we need to stop being dependent on the external environment outside of ourselves. This book is simple, and yet pratical.

Summary: One of the best self-help books ever
Review: Over the past several years I have given over a hundred copies of this book to friends and business associates. It changed my life and is helping a lot of other people. This is the best self-help book I had ever read until I read "Who Are You And What Do You Want?" also by the same author. Now I'm giving his new book to friends. If you've ever wondered what stops you or holds you back, read this book and it will make it very clear. If you would like to get motivated and move forward, I would recommend reading both books.

Summary: Valuable Information
Review: Shad Helmstetter presents a great look at the self-talk method of self-improvement. This is definitely one of the best books on the subject (self-talk / affirmations / self-hypnosis / autosuggestion), and explains the author's theories on how the brain works and the immense power of repitition. Hihgly recommend

Summary: Let the book help you to become your own Master
Review: The ancient truth of "Believe in yourself takes a new and dinamic approach with this book. The lesson is clear and direct. You are the owner of your destiny and you do not need a Master or Guide to show the way. On the contrary, leave what the others say about you on the side, simply talk to yourself in terms that are kind and encoraging and soon you will see the results.

Summary: the previous totally negative review
Review: The previous review does nothing but pick apart things the author says in the book. He says nothing about acutally TRYING the techniques in the book, which I'm sure he didn't because I seriously doubt he would be so negative if he had. Picking apart the book, word for word, is not really helpful to anyone. Trying what the book suggests and telling us whether it worked for you or not would be helpful. Thusfar, I do not know anyone who tried the techniques who has not been helped by this book. Also, I do believe that self-hypnosis can be equally as effective but it does take time which some very busy people don't have to spare. Making a self-talk tape and playing it while doing other things takes no extra time out of your day.

Summary: The best book self- help book ever!
Review: There are lots of books that cover the topic of self-talk. Motivational speakers talk about positive affirmations -- including the classic "Think and Grow Rich." Helmstetter's book is the first one that I've seen that covers the process, including how to create the scripts. Yes, scripts!

In other words, before you start talking to your self, THINK about what it is that you want to accomplish, examine the details and then write the script. If that concept is a bit scary, there are excellent examples in the text.

Well worth reading!

Summary: The ONLY self-help book you'll ever need!
Review: There are other books available on the subject of "self-talk", but Mr. Helmstetter was the first modern person to discover the amazing truth about our minds. This book is worth its weight in gold
