Rating: Summary: Like this book Review: I liked this book. It does help with getting rid of negative self talk and replacing with positive self talk.
Rating: Summary: Good Stuff Review: I purchased this book about a year ago. Upon receiving it, I quickly read its contents and set about implimenting its recommendations and suggestions. In the manner prescribed, I recorded my very own self talk tape to help improve my confidence. I diligently listened to said tape past the recommended 30 day period of grace. I attempted this during not one, but two discrete monthly stretches. It worked neither time. I was still very much my old self. But then I reread the book, combing every inch for details that, in my haste, I might have overlooked the first two times around. I noticed that many of the affirmations I had initially written out prior to recording retained much of the negative tone present in my routine self talk. That is, I would make liberal use of words like "always" and "never" that put a very taxing burden on my psyche to change or else... It was almost as though I were threatening myself. All this to say that once I got rid of the foregoing and wrote my affirmations in the most positive and/or neutral language I could muster did I begin to see improvements. It has been a little over two weeks since that second watershed reading, and I'm happy to report that it's working! The self talk is actually working! For a person like me that has already gone the psychiatric/pharmocological route and to no avail, it's good to know that there is something else out there that does help. This book, although imperfect in its execution and contradictory in spots, was my introduction to that something. For that I am most grateful. A book worthy of your shelf.
Rating: Summary: After reading many self-help books this is the ONE. Review: I read many self-help books and took many courses but this book opened my eyes.
Especially chapter explaining why self-help courses and seminars don't produce lasting effects

Rating: Summary: This book was my wake up call to personal responsibility Review: I read this book in 1986. If you have ever had something resonate inside you as 'Truth', you will understand how I reacted to this book. While reading it I woke up to the fact that I could change my own life by changing the chatter within my own head. The idea of modifying my own self-talk was revolutionary to me. My family had taught me more about 'accepting what was on my plate' than about creating the life I wanted. For me this book was the beginning of a new way of thinking that started me on the long journey back to my self - which is by no means over. Without the Truth I found here, I know the journey would not be so far along now. Read it, listen to it and grow from the learning!
Rating: Summary: Provides a simple method to reprogram our mental computer! Review: I work as a therapist in the mental health field and regularly read Self-Help books for myself and to incorporate into treatment programs. Many of these books have interesting theories which don't work or are too tedious to use with individuals seeking quick solutions to problems. This book teaches us that we literally become what we think and tell ourselves. Other books have touched on this concept in the past, but this book teaches us quick and easy methods to stop unwanted thinking/behaviour patterns - to "erase and replace" our negative thoughts with ones which will build our success. Prior to reading this book approximately 10 years ago - this technique required many hours of written assignments and counselling. Individuals now have a simple and effective tool to make permanent positive change in their lives by learning the right things to say to themselves. It reduces the need for prolonged psychotherapy through professionals because it allows to become our own therapist. This book goes beyond positive thinking, it is more than wishful thinking with no concrete instructions on how to achieve happiness. This is a quick and easy method to create any level of change an individual desires -by using specific self-talk words and scripts throughout their day. I give this book to every patient that I believe is serious about making positive change in their life!
Rating: Summary: How it made me $17,000 in 3 months work! Review: I work for a publishing company from Nashville and I sell books to families in their homes. I have sold now for three summers, after reading this book for my 3rd summer I increased my profit by $10,000 from my second summer to my 3rd summer. It is the best book I have read on the subject (not that i have read many) but I put into action what it told me to do and it worked. My usual working day during the summer time involves me seeing 30 families and selling 3-6 of them. That's a lot of rejection, this book helped me deal with all that and have fun at the same time. It all came down to what I was saying to myself! For those cynical folks out there I can send you a copy of my check! Anyway, it costs very little and can transform your life if you just do what it says! Have a fun read and email if you want to chat about it!
Rating: Summary: Makes you think! Review: I'm only half way through this book but already I realize how negative my thoughts have been. Even when I'm joking my brain is listening to my every word and storing it for later use! I really like the analogy about how a person's brain is like an house filled with old, hand-me-down furnature (negative thoughts) that needs to be replaced with new and improved furnature (self talk). A must read for anyone who wishes to improve something in their life. The only minor flaw is it's slightly repetitive.
Rating: Summary: Mind opening explaination of the mind Review: If your interested in self improvement, this author provides the key to success that the others just plain leave out! Read this book first before you read any other!!!!
Rating: Summary: New life from new programming Review: Just put the scripts on tape, play your tape recorder once or twice every day and positive results happen. You don't have to believe what you are hearing. Your subconscious mind takes the verbal inputs and instructs your behaviour to cause desirable changes to occur. That has been my experience. My sales have quadrupled and my business is showing my competitors the way home.
