Rating: Summary: The answer I've been looking for Review: I couldn't get enough of this book, and before I was finished, I "accidentally" found myself being more upbeat and positive. For people suffering from depression and anxiety, I can't recommend enough that you read this book. It really is important to understand how much of what goes on in our lives is really up to us and how we choose to interpret things. We can change negative habits to positive ones, and this book shows you how. Thank you Dr. Helmstetter! I really believe you helped me change my life for the better.
Rating: Summary: Taking control of your own mind - but do you want to? Review: I did actually read this book from cover to cover despite some reservations in the first couple of chapters. The basic premise of the book is that you can change your life\attitude by simply talking\writing\thinking positive thoughts on a regular basis. I'm sure that this is true and it is certainly a useful tool to use. The writing style is a little repetitious - mind you so is self-talk ;) My reservations, as with all 'motivational' ideas is that it is so close to indoctrination that it makes me somewhat uncomfortable. i.e. If I hate my job, the idea is that I think\say to myself "I Love my job and do it well" several times per day and all will be well.... so what if I hate my job?? should I not hate my job? could I not use this feeling to change my job, instead of brainwashing myself that I love my job... As I say, very useful but I don't know that I can deal with the idea that this is something for all problems and\or all people - how boring would life be if we were all positive, happy little robots ...
Rating: Summary: Everyone should read this book !!!! Review: I feel out of all the self help books I have read this is by far the best. Your mind can be such a powerful tool when it has the right program. I feel this is it. I just finished reading it and I plan to read it again right away.
Rating: Summary: IF YOU SUFFER FROM PANIC ATTACKS....READ THIS!! Review: I felt helpless from my endless Panic Attacks until I read this book. I found that "I" control my thoughts. PERIOD!!! If "I" wanted to Panic... I thought "Panic Thoughts". If I didn't want to panic... "I" didn't "HAVE TO" think them!!!!
Rating: Summary: This is one book that should be part of everyone's library. Review: I found this book many years ago and since have purchased over 15 copies to share with friends and family. This is a gold mine that must be shared with others. This author's words ring true and everyone that comes in contact with it grows in their understanding of self. And once you understand how you have for years been tearing yourself down you now have the building blocks to construct a better you.
Rating: Summary: The best book self- help book ever! Review: I have read hundreds of self-help books, but "what to say when you talk to yourself" is the best book I have read so far. Without any doubt. In this book Dr. Helmstetter shows you how to change your way of thinking by giving your brain positive affirmations. The basic principle behind the book is that you "are what you think". Due to that fact, you can quit smoking, loose weight, increase confidence or kill worries, by just give you the right self-talk. It`s a kind of self-hypnosis. If you, for instance, suffer from insomia, you should say to yourself: "I sleep good every night, and I wake up full of energy". By saying a such sentence over and over, you will after while change your way of thinking and thus sleep better. Of course, the circumstances around us will always affects us. But, by giving ourself the right self-talk, you can handle any situation in a better way. The book is all about being better. The book is very easy to read, and the techniques that are described are highly effective and easy to apply. This is, perhaps, the only self-help book that you need. All in all, just buy the book, use the techniques and see the results. You will be amazed.
