Summary: Intense and to the point.
Review: If you are a writer, or think that you may be one, buy this book NOW. It offers to-the-point advise. I LOVE this book. Actually, I think I'll read it again after I write this review. I recommended it to several friends, and now they are hooked too. BUY IT... YOU'LL LOVE IT....!

Summary: the first time someone/thing taught me to be a real writer
Review: I love this book, I have read it twice since I have bought it. I have always loved writing but never felt I was good enough until I read this book. She shows you how to write from your heart and soul, not everything has to be perfect when you write. No one ever told me about practicing my writing the way that Natalie explains it. her exercises for writing have helped me in more then just my writing it has helped me get to know my true self better!! I have already told several of my friends who are teacher to read this! And I will continue to recommend this book to anyone I know that enjoys to write, it is a book for not just for writers but for everyone.!

Summary: This book is my Bible.
Review: This book, used in conjunction with Eric Maisel's "Fearless Creating," helped me develop the discipline to write every day. I had to stop lending it to my writer friends for fear I might not get it back. Besides, every writer struggling to find discipline should own his/her own copy. I only wish I could attend one of Ms. Goldberg's workshops. What a teacher!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Fantastic!
Review: Goldberg's book is focused and creative. She provides excellent advice for amateur and advanced writers by stressing simple techniques. I share this book in my classroom and my writing students find her ideas fun. I've seen many students overcome their anxiety for writing by using her simple guidelines.

Summary: I stopped counting how many copies I'd purchased after ten
Review: The only other book I buy and give as a gift more often is The Road Less Traveled. This is truly an amazing book. Insightful, entertaining, personal, challenging. If you've ever wanted to write, with Natalie's book in hand, you'll have no more excuses. Put the pen to paper and simply begin.

Summary: Repetition, Repetition, Repetition
Review: Natalie Goldberg provides perfect instruction for the writer to be; "write it down and write it down often". Her examples provide a connection for everyone-find your interest, even those unrelated to what you wish to eventually compose yet are familiar with, and write about it. Her instruction is simple yet very effective-writing skills to develop from 'chicken scratch' through complex essays. As a 'want-to-be' published writer disguised as a professional technical writer, I would recommend this book for two reasons:

1) It is inexpensive and

2) the return on the investment satisfied my creative writing desires beyond compare.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: If you don't own this book, here's why you should!
Review: This book is such an increidible resource for writers that I own two copies- one that I always keep in my bookbag and one that stays at home. It is simply the best inspiration out there. Whenever I'm stuck, I pick a chapter at random, read it and let it guide me back to my notebook.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Practical advice worth trying
Review: Natalie Goldburg gives us useful exercises to "free" the inner author: all encouraging the writer to avoid the censorship of the ego, the pre-learned "rules" of writing. She goes a long way toward actually SHOWING how this is to be done. I would also recommend Anne Lamott's "Bird by Bird," which offers an even kinder, gentler approach for the would-be author.

Summary: guaranteed to spread misconceptions
Review: "Writing Down the Bones" is filled with a bunch of vague, generalized "writing exercises" which are of no help to serious craftsmen. The book is guaranteed to spread misconceptions as to the nature of Zen Buddhism. Worse, it is guaranteed to spread misconceptions as to the nature of writing and will lead the reader to believe that discipline and order have no place in writing. As Richard Wilbur said, "The strength of the genie comes from its being imprisoned in the bottle."

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A book for everyone
Review: This book is excellent in the way that if you follow the instructions in the book, you can not only improve your writing, but also your life. Natalie Goldberg taught you how to establish a habit of trusting your inner self, your intuition, which let you have more confidence in your own thinking, and more acceptance to your own self. This in turn promote your self esteem. Through practising writing the way Natalie told, you may transform the habit of intergrating your real thought and actions to your daily life. It is wonderful that a writing guidance book can have such psychotherapy effect
