Summary: Finally - a book that makes SENSE
Review: Napoleon Hill founded the laws of success, Dale Carnegie taught us how to win friends and Maxwell Maltz taught us how to live it all. This book has in my opinion, what 99.9% of books will forever lack - and that's common sense. There is no need for hype, Maltz speaks the truth which is refreshing in this day and age. He teaches (and in my opinion was the first to teach) the art of compassion, self- respect, relaxation, forgiveness and the art of being a professional human being. In this book you will learn that it doesn't matter how many success principles you know, that if you really want to change you must do so through the self-image -the foundation for all success. It is a book filled with wisdom, humor and hope. So if you want to change and live a better life overall, then buy this book. Take a knife and cut through the diddle daddle and motivation found in those other so-called self-help books. After all, how many other authors have 33 million copies in print over a 40 year life span? BUY IT!

Summary: A true classic that stands the test of time....
Review: Of the perhaps thousand books that I have read in my lifetime, PsychoCybernetics occupies a very special and honoured place on my bookshelf...

This classic self help book is so mature and sane in its content. No gimmicks, no bells and whistles...Just timeless truth and wisdom from an obviously wise and insightful man.

This book was a landmark in proving that our self image is all important in determining the quality of our lives. It is inspirational in its promise and challenge that we can change our self image systematically and effectively. Its insights into our psychology are deep, and ring so true in their logic and simplicity. Maltz did not want to make himself a guru....as is evidenced by so many self help authors. As a matter of fact, as an avid reader of self help books, I see that most of the modern self-help authors base themselves on the writing of this giant man. In a thousand years, when some yet unborn person will write their doctorate on self help books through the ages, many of today's books and authors will have been long forgotten - but not Maltz...His book will live on as a classic work. Its truths shining on in their timelessness.

One of the great thinkers of all time once said: " If I have seen further than others, it is only because I have stood on the shoulders of giants." Maxwell Maltz, without a doubt, is a true giant among authors who have bestowed upon the world inspirational literature..Please allow me to pass on to you the gift of his wisdom - as a token of my appreciation to Maltz and his legacy which have so deeply affected and enriched my life.

Have read the book 2 times, and will do it again soon. His advice gives me strength to live this tumultous world courageously. Highly recommended.

Summary: DON'T get the WRONG book! Get ISBN 0671700758
Review: Pay VERY close attention: There are two versions of the book that look almost exactly the same on the outside but their contents are very different:
#1) "Psycho-Cybernetics" by Maxwell Maltz, M.D.,F.I.C.S [1960 ISBN 0671700758]
#2) "Psycho-Cybernetics" by Maxwell Maltz FOUNDATION & Bobbe Sommer [1993 ISBN 156731306X].

Make sure you get the original 1960 written by Maxwell himself. The 1993 "update" is so painful to read because the new author, Bobbe Sommer literally QUOTES Maxwell Maltz repeatedly while trying to add her own insightful messages. For example, on page 3 of her "update", she states:

"Whether we realize it or not," Maltz wrote, "each of us carries..."

Well, if you just read the original 1960's book, your eyeballs don't waste time on the "Maltz wrote" phrase altogether... duh!...because Maxwell was the one who wrote it!

The only reasons to endure Bobbe Sommer's endless "Maltz said....; Maltz learned that...; Maltz studied...; Maltz wrote...; Maltz realized..." is if she added some totally mindblowing ideas OR contradicted his work. In my opinion she didn't.

BTW, I was not prejudiced by reading the original first and then reading the 1993 update to see if it was any better; I actually (and unfortunately) read the 1993 book first. I thought the 1960 original was out of print but I accidentally stumbled on the original copy at Border's Books. I read a chapter and realized his true words were so much more inspirational. Not dry and academic like Bobbe Sommer's version. I think the publisher of the new book was deliberately trying to confuse the public by making the cover look the same as the old one. I think it's borderline unethical...buyer beware!

Apparently, Amazon's algorithm to link up user reviews with books is heavily based on the book's title. Most of the time, this works great when there's a paperback and a hardcopy version of the same book. But in this case, the 1960's book and the 1993 are completely different and should not point to the same user reviews! All the glowing reviews listed below? They are the same for both titles. You really don't know which book the reviewers were praising. I'm going to guess it's the 1960's version. See for yourself, plug in either ISBN #s and you'll get the identical list of user reviews.

BTW, this Amazon loophole gives me a great idea: I can write a new book about how to become a master at appraising and certifying jewelry like wedding bands and title it "Lord of the Rings"--and shazam--Amazon's engine will give my book the 5 stars and all the wonderful reviews of Tolkien's classic.

I give 5 stars for Maltz's 1960 original. I give 2 stars for Bobbe Sommer's update. Again, if the ISBN is 0671700758 click "add to cart". If it says ISBN 156731306X, try again.

Summary: Give Yourself An Emotional Mental Face Lift!
Review: Read this book with a commitment to get everything that you can possibly get out of it. This is about being human, taking responsibility for your experiences, and seeing your way through to all sorts of success.

Last year, I read this book twice, (the 1960 version). And from the notes that I wrote in the margins, I see how I have evolved, tremendously.

While I enhanced my life, last year, as a result of what I learned from reading this book, twice. I still had trouble with visualizations, because I kept telling myself that I am not a visual person.

This year, having just read this book, and having decided to be visual, I create visions of myself being and doing what I most aspire to be and do. In fact, as I was finishing this 3rd read, I was also in a meeting that looked like I was going to lose a lot of money.

During our break, I read more of this book, and peacefully wrote out what I wanted out of this meeting, when all was said and done.

And 10 minutes after I wrote those details down, with a relaxed frame of mind, I got everything that I wanted.

Read this book to see yourself where you want to be. You will be doing things that you want and love to do, naturally.

Summary: You truly do act as you think you are
Review: There's something out there that causes you to act the way you do. I couldn't figure out what that was until I stumbled upon this book about 4 years ago and I'm still reccomending it to everyone. Filed under the self-help category, I would rather find this book in the "Insights into why I act the way I do" section.

This book covers human behavior, making us realize that we act exactly as we think we are. Dr. Maltz, as a plastic surgeon, demonstrated that with his magic wand, he transformed people's lives by making them "look better" in their own eyes which are the only eyes that matter.

This book has definately made a huge impact on me as I read it just before attending college. I'm sure you remember those years where you had everything figured out.

This book doesn't fill you up with empty promises. It simply tells you what you've already known for a long time, but maybe you were too busy to take time to develop what kind of person you want to be.

Summary: Great Book
Review: This book is a success classic. What makes this book so unique is that it was written by a plastic surgeon, not a motivational speaker. When Max noticed how much people's picture of themselves had such a great impact on their self-image, self-esteem, he noticed that success was an inside job.

Although it's written in a boring 1960's style of writing, the content is so good that I recommend this book to anyone interested in self-improvement and success.

Summary: THE BEST
Review: This book is one the best books on the subject of self help around. It is clear and logical, nothing too outlandish like some books of this kind. Just time tested methods that will last forever.

Summary: THIS BOOK IS SO IMPRESSIVE!
Review: This book is so practical yet still inspirational!Maxwell Maltz's revelation that he could fix people's faces and they still felt inadequate and ugly led him to a study of how the mind works. His technique for change and acheivement is fascinating and works!
