Rating: Summary: not recommended for medical menopause @ 38 yrs Review: The book does a good job of explaing options for women of natural menopause age. The part that concerned me was comparing a woman having a hysterectomy with a man being castrated. Being a woman doesn't only have to do with her internal organs it also has to do with her mind and heart. This was a one liner in the book but it was the line that I remembered. I may have taken it out of context at the time but still the comment stays with me. Other than that the authors offered many alternatives to synthetic medications and did a good job of describing those alternatives. I may give it a try after surgery.
Rating: Summary: John Lee's book is the best on perimenopause. Review: If any woman had a question about the beginning of menopause, this is the book. He discusses many symtoms of perimenopause doctors overlook. I am a 37 year old woman, who started having symtoms my doctor treated as just separate things. John Lee's book cleared up many questions I had and helped me decide my coarse of treatment. I work in a pharmacy and see the many side effects of HRT. I decided to try Natural Progesterone Cream. It is great. This book will help you decide if you are entering into perimanopause and some treatments you may want to try including diet, exercise, supplements and progesterone cream. If in doubt, read this book.
Rating: Summary: I'm looking forward to a new me! Review: As a woman who had a hysterectomy at the age of 34, I've since battled with hot flashes, weight gain (to the tune of 30 pounds!), depression, foggy thinking, and bladder infections. I've just begun using Progesterone cream and am weaning myself off the HRT I've been taking AND the Paxil I've been taking. I'll be back to share my results! I HAVE HOPE NOW!!
Rating: Summary: Excellent reading, a must for all women. Review: I am a Registered Nurse and very familiar with the medical establishment and have, for a number of years, been dissatisfied with the approach taken in treating health problems of the general public and in specific womens health problems. As I read What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Menopause I realized that a good many of my problems as a young woman could have been solved very easily if there had been the knowledge or the willingness a doctor to examine solutions other than Estrogen replacement, anti-depressants and or sedatives. Every woman in America should read this book or What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About PreMenopause: Managing Your Life and your Hormones from Thirty to Fifty. I purchased this one for my 30 year old daughter. Don't get too angry when you find out how ego and profit driven the medical establishment is, just get busy and find a doctor who will listen and help you deal with your problems. There a few of them out there. GOOD READING
Rating: Summary: This book has been an absolute godsend. Review: With the help of this book, I have found relief after 30 years of female problems. The high and mighty OB/GYN who chastised this book doesn't know what he's talking about. He's part of the very culture that Dr Lee is trying to save us from. Good riddance to estrogen!!! Natural progesterone is what we really need.
Rating: Summary: Finally, an alternative source for women's health issues! Review: After years of dealing with PMS symptoms that ran the gamut, I attended a seminar whereby I was given a copy of Dr. Lee's book and introduced to the idea of natural progesterone. I have used the progesterone for two months and am already seeing remarkable results! Alarmed when my otherwise healthy mother developed breast cancer after taking synthetic hormones, I was desperate to find an alternative to the media hype about estrogen, breast cancer and heart disease. I have since recommended this book to my family and friends. Thank you Dr. Lee!
Rating: Summary: This book changed my life Review: This eye opening look at the current practice of gynecologists to distribute hormone replacement therapy like candy should be read by any woman experiencing menopause or in perimenopause (usually your 30's). The pharmaceutical companies are making billions from women who trust their doctors to know what's best for them without seeking out the truth of why American women have so much more trouble with menopause then anybody else. Read this and make up your own mind. I have several friends who have used this therapy, including myself, and we have been delivered from night sweats, migraines, hot flashes, and mood swings. Note that Dr. Lee has upgraded his recommendation on the TYPE of natural progesterone to use, so find his web site and educate yourself. Thank you, Dr. Lee.
Rating: Summary: Do Not buy this book....it is potentially dangerous Review: There are three reasons not to buy this book. #1.It will be a waste of your money and the time it takes to read it. #2.By buying it, you will encourage this biased physician to write another book. #3.By following his advice, you may cause an early heart attack or early osteoporosis. This is an example of a "small person" syndrome. You see them in all professions and are never mainstream. They usually have an ax to grind and are out of the 99 percentile of their collegues' thinking. They have extreme bias in their statistics and quote only articles that in someway support their contention. They don't start with an open mind that leads to a conclusion. They start with a conclusion and structure the evidence to support their conclusion. This is opposed to the scientific method whereby mainstream medicine uses medical principles to treat their patients. In order to gain stature with their readers, the small person puts down mainstream medicine's stance on HRT and drug companies research and development of fine medications that help people. There are warehouses of medical literature and experts that are far superior than that found in this book. Dr. Lee is a family practicioner in private practice and doesn't compare to an OB/GYN endrocrinologist who heads a University program and has many articles on the subject with a large research staff. This man is dangerous to medicine and his readers. What he doesn't tell you is those "terrible side affects" of progestins are uncommon and not life-threatening; whereas the use of progesterone only may lead to early heart attack and early osteoporosis, both of which can be lethal. Rating: Summary: debunks the common theory behind HRT Review: I am a 42 year old premenopausal woman. The book helped me immeasurably by not only providing information that I already knew (but hadn't thought about in years, e.g., what's really going on during the monthly cycle), and by addressing what I don't know about the premenopausal years. It clearly described symptoms that I was experiencing, even the hypothyroidism I was told that I had. Since following some of the advice in the book, I've dropped 30 pounds and am relieved of those pesky PMS symptoms. I wholeheartedly recommend this book. Some of the language gets technical, but you can get through those parts.
Rating: Summary: Doctor jumped ship. Review: The teachings of western medicine has been the holy grail of the western culture. We see our doctors as gods and whatever they prescribe we follow. Here is a doctor who has gone against the grain of western philosophy, and showed what women needed after all: natural methods to cure their natural body. I've read the book from cover to cover and have recommended it to my wife (pre-menopausal) and my mother (menopausal). I'll have them start on natural progesterone ASAP. Of course, the diet w/c Dr. Lee also studied as a major factor in western type diseases has been taken into consideration by our family who has switched to a vegetarian diet (as much organic as possible, especially carrots for juicing).
