Rating: Summary: A wonderful book Review: Kevyn is an extremely talented make-up artist who gives great tips on how to apply make-up and the right tools to use.I learned a lot of good tips which I use daily.
Rating: Summary: Not a practical book for everyday women Review: Although Kevyn is a very talented make up artist, this book is for (1) the very young with no wrinkles (2) models (3) movie stars. I wish Kevyn would do a book for the everyday women. This would have been more helpful to me. I just can't see myself sprinkling glitter all over the character marks (also known as wrinkles) my eyelids or face. Kevyn, get real, there are more of us aging baby boomers out there that want practical advice!
Rating: Summary: Over-rated, but a good read.... Review: The pictures were simply stunning, which I believe has more to do with the photographers than it does with Kevyn Aucoin himself. I personally did not find any terribly useful makeup advice and found that he had little to no foundation in his techniques... I come to this conclusion because he's constantly talking about "freedom" and such. I did enjoy the make-overs of the celebreties immensely, and would have bought the book just for the pictures alone. This is a wonderful book to have if you don't expect too much out of it.
Rating: Summary: Great Book - my clients love it! Review: This is a fabulous book - shows just what CAN be done with color cosmetics. My clients are fascinated by the before and after picutres and listen much more closely now when I speak to them. Anyone is the cosmetic industry needs to own this book!
Rating: Summary: Making Faces Review: I found this book extremely helpful in teaching you techniques for applying makeup and yet, not teaching you to rely on any certain "rules" as many other makeup books will have you learn. I enjoyed the variety of makeup styles and the large full-color pictures in the book. It is nice to learn a little about Kevyn as I read the book, as well as many helpful tips. It is a very good book, becuase it helps you develope a makeup style all your own. It is about looking the best you can, and being who you are, not trying to look like the latest super model. I like that he places emphasis on being the best you are, not trying to look like something you are not. After all, isn't that why we are all different?
Rating: Summary: The best book on beauty culture I've ever read Review: And being a professional librarian, I've seen a LOT of them. The fact that its young author matter-of-factly mentions that he's gay sets the tone: this is a book not about coyness or covering up, but finding and enhancing the unique beauty that can be found in each of us. Instead of dictating what mask to paint on, Aucoin clearly outlines the many different looks and techniques that can be used to achieve various effects, in beautiful but simple language and illustrations that anyone can follow. I hope Aucoin intends to update this book every now and then as fashion dictates; this has the makings of an enduring classic.
Rating: Summary: Gave great tips on how to create the look that you want. Review: I found this book to be very complete and informative not only in regards to exactly you need to create the looks, but also provides vivid descriptions on how to apply the makeup. I have been looking at magazines for years trying to emulate the latest styles, now I am able to right in my own home. I really am enjoying this book! I would definately recommed it to not only the most seasoned veteran, but a novice as well.
Rating: Summary: Great book with lots of great looks and tips Review: This is a great book that has tons of great looks and tips on makeup....the best part is the made-over celebrities, such as Lisa Marie Presley as Marilyn Monroe.
Rating: Summary: This book won't leave you "Making Faces" Review: When I picked up "Making Faces", the first thing that I thought was that there are a million books that are supposed to help you make your face prettier and I have seen them all. The instructions leave you confused with gobs of makeup all in the wrong places. With "Making Faces" I was dead wrong. This is not another book with instructions that leave you wondering where your browbone is. Everything is illustrated and explained so well, that there is no room for mistakes, just clear instructions for specific looks that are nothing short of spectacular.
Rating: Summary: Stunning - simply stunning. Review: I bought this book in anticipation of having a portrait taken for Christmas. I'm pretty good with the pots and brushes, but wanted some new inspiration. Now, my only problem is deciding "who" to be for the picture (I'm leaning toward The Sophisticate). Whichever route I take, with Kevyn's help, I know I'm going to look faaabulous, dahling - and my love will love it!
