Rating: Summary: Rating from a current Makeup Artist! Review: This book is so wonderful, even for people who are NOT into makeup at all! Even my boyfriend thinks it makes a great coffee table book for everyone to look at. As a makeup artist, this book is like no other. It balances the art of photography, makeup, fantasy and reality. The one thing that I really love about this book the most is that it INSPIRES ME!!!! As a current makeup artist, I agree that there are NO BOUNDARIES when it comes to makeup! It is fun, intruiguing, transforming, and the best part is that it is temporary - you can play with a different look the next day. Kevyn Aucoin is an amazing artist - and this book is a great way to not only learn about makeup, but it allows you to see every possibility available.
Rating: Summary: wonderful Review: i'm a 15 year old girl and before i got this book, makeup wasn't a priority. Not that i was a feminist it's just that i was a complete idiot when it came to make up, but after reading this book,i can't wait to do my makeup in the morning . i saw that it was so easy and that you didn't need an unbelievable amount of makeup to pull of a look, less is more. i do my friends make up before dances, and i am i make up junkie (CVS and Target baby). all i have to say is thank you soooooo much Kevyn!! this book is a must for every female.

Rating: Summary: Archealogical Digs Can Lead To Treasures Review: I was in a play when I first became aquainted with this author/artist. I played a somewhat minor role (No small parts, only small actors), so I spent the majority of rehersals playing tic tak toe and reading interesting articles in the Onion at rehersals. One day, I was helping to clean the costume room (similar to an archealogicacl dig: there was about as much dust, and I think we figured out that some of the discarded skirts and masks dated back to 3000 B.C.). Something white amongst the grey caught my eye immediately...I had soon uncovered this book. One of the make up artists in the last play must have left it. I darted behind a rack of musty, tattered dresses, determined to conceal my prize from the other cleaner-uppers until I had gotten a better look. I cracked it open, and began flipping through. I believe the director found me there, 45 minutes later, wanting to know why on earth I had missed my cue. About thirty seconds into mid-lecture, she stooped down to see what the fuss was about and became as engrossed as I. This book is not only innovative and creative, but fun! As soon as I layed eyes on it, I wanted to try out some of the make up faces. It shows, step by step, how to create everything from a bomshell blond to an emaciated but hopeful heroine. The many different ways of using make up are truely ingenious, and I would reccomend this book to those who are looking for new make up techniques, for the independant actress, and for anyone who simply wants to try some of these out on a rainy day. Try it out...you won't regret it. But, if you plan on browsing through it while "working", try to make sure your boss doesn't catch you.
Rating: Summary: Making Faces is for EVERYBODY Review: His 2nd best-selling book, a follow up to his debut "The Art Of Makeup." I found out about this book when Kevyn Aucoin, the best-known makeup artist, was on Oprah. Needless to say, I was fasinated, seeing the makeovers done (on the show, and in the book)I longed to see this book. When I finally found this (and his first book), I flipped out, I was addicted to his book(s). Like his new book, "Face Foreward," this book is not only for women I feel, but also for aspiring actors, for people who want to have fun, ect. Kevyn Aucoin shows us in his view that there are no rules to makeup, as long as you like it. He has diiferent sections teaching tecniques, showing the different parts of the face, and many looks, like the "soft look" with Tina Turner (by the way, he is the only makeup artist that has ever touched her face-in the past she had always done her own makeup). A part where he shows before-and after pictures of friends and family (he makes up his Mom and sisters), and saving the best for last, showing the many celebrity faces transformed into someone else. A flood of celebrity's, become chameleons, not only pictures, but also showing us how to do it ourselfes. Lisa Marie Presly into Marilyn Monroe, Isabella Rosilinni into Barbra Streisand, Demi Moore into Clara Bow, Nicole Kidman into the 60's "Ingenue," and transforming a handsome friend(a man) into the beautiful "Showgirl," and "The Player." And not to mention Vanessa Willaims as the "Chanteuse," a picture she used for her Christmas album cover. The rest is filled with more celebrity's, models, and loads of great fun. And one of the best things about this book, besides the beautiful pictures, is that you get to know Kevyn-a real nice, warm, kind-hearted man who seems to have something nice to say about everyone. If you like celebrity's, makeup, beautiful pictures, ect, then learn from the best, Kevyn. This book is for you. This book is for everybody.
Rating: Summary: A book from the make-up genius Review: Sure, the pictures are gorgeous and ofcourse no matter how hard I try at home, I'll never transform myself into Marilyn Monroe without a professional cameraman and hours of airbrushing, but thats not what I loved about the book in the first place. What I did love was Kevyn's easy going style and his loving personality that really came accross and touched me. He never once in the book made any reference to his immense talent... instead, he kept emphasising on the beauty of his subjects. A very refreshing approach by a very unique man. I'd love to meet him even if he wasn't half as succesful and famous as he is today. Dont get me wrong though, the pictures ARE stunning and you'll get a whole load of useful make-up tips. I guarentee though you'll finish loving the man more than his talent!
Rating: Summary: Great inspiration! Review: This book is a great addition to your bedroom bookshelf. You may not use it every day, but it's there when you need it. Mr. Aucoin shows you how you can transform yourself with makeup. He uses before/after photos and tells you what each of his models (young, old, black, white, asian, even men) should focus on. Many of us have the tried & true, day-in/day-out routine. This book gives you some great ideas on how to break out of the mundane and add some variety and interest into your makeup. His ability to turn celebrities like Lisa Marie Presley, Julia Roberts, Gwyneth Paltrow and others into completely different looking people should inspire any reader to try something new. In a fit of desperation, before a formal event, I grabbed this book for some ideas. I dug around my makeup collection and found the ingredients to try one of his looks. With his step-by-step directions & illustrations, I was able to totally recreate a more engaging treatment. When my boyfriend picked my up, he looked at me with this surprised look in his eyes. "I can tell by your face; you hate my makeup don't you?" I said. "No. Not at all, it's just so different. So Sexy." He responded. 'Nuff said.
Rating: Summary: A must for anyone who wants to change their make-up Review: I actually bought the book as a Christmas present for my sister, but couldn't bear to part with it. Kevin has a true gift for make-up, and his illustrations are easy to follow. This book not only helps you experiment, it helps you find your own style.
Rating: Summary: Not What I Expected Review: If your looking for a teenage makeup book, this wouldn't be my first recommendation. This book was more about the history of makeup and had a few makeovers in it, but it wasn't really what i was lookin for; a book with makeup instructions and tips of teenagers, but this book was really for an older person
Rating: Summary: Love It Review: What else can I say but, I LOVE IT. As a make-up artist myself it has great tricks and tips, awsome pictures, amazing make-overs and an interesting look into how he got started. This book is good for anyone, not just the make-up addict, and is good for all levels from the "just curious" to the most advanced. You will never get bored of it, just leave it on the coffee table as a conversation starter or just to breeze through for fun. When ever I am in a rut for a new look, I look to this book for inspiration. I highly recommend it to all!!!
