Summary: For all who like to stick their fingers in makeup
Review: I used the Lisa Marie Presley/Marilyn Monroe makeover to transform myself into MM in order to sing "Happy Birthday, Mr President" to my CEO. He still has the photo on his desk, and each time I see it I am amazed at how different I looked in Kevin Aucoin's makeup.

The book will give you the inspiration and (hopefully) the courage to try new things. After all..it's only makeup! It ain't rocket science!

Summary: Must have for any make-up user
Review: This book is very in depth with instrucions & photos--without tyring to instill any laws of make-up. The author encourages the reader to find what words best for them, and gives many different looks that can be copied straight from the book--no detail is left out.

Summary: Kevyn honey, I just love you!!
Review: This book is the zenith of the arts of both makeup and photography. Kevyn is THE genius of his field. His work and his writing are the essence of using the outside to help comfort and beautify the inside, yes honey, a great face DOES make you feel beautiful inside just like holding a puppy dog when he/she gives you that big wet puppy kiss. I am male, Karra A. von Romanov is my female gender and Kevyn's work was part of the inspiration for the name. I am so deeply indebted to him for sharing his genius and his insights that I wanted my female half to have the initials K.A. Karra is the name of the first girl I kissed and Annastasia von Romanov is a tribute to the true elegance and taste of a bygone time. True elegance and taste are a perfect match for Kevyn Aucoin. This book is somuch more than a book of exterior beauty and it is an extremely uplifting read. Thank you Kevyn for sharing your work and your thoughts with us and thank the publisher for bringing it to us. Also, this is NOT a book in which to skip the forward, Gena Rowlands hits the mark with her very insightful commentary.
Sincerely, Karra A. von Romanov

Summary: A great book.
Review: This book is a wonderful guide for anyone from a beginner, to the person who would like to try something new. It gives detailed information about applying make up to each area of the face. The large size, and full color makes the reading experience even more enjoyable. In addition, Mr. Aucoin adds make-overs from his sister to his mother, family photos, and celebrity make-overs to make this great book even more interesting.

Summary: The Perfect Book for anyone
Review: I have always admired and loved Kevin Aucoin's magic with makeup. Which is exactly what it is. Being from around the same area as him, kinda gives a sense of hope that when I go to pursue my career in makeup, that I will be able to succeed also. And who better to teach me, or anyone for that matter. I have his other book also, Face Forward, and they both amaze me. This book is the ultimate best! You can't go wrong

Review: I have lots of fun with this book.

Summary: Wonderful wonderful! A great and sad book.
Review: I was at friends house the other day and she was showing me some picture of her and another friend of ours doing "Glam" shots. I was stunned when I saw a picture of her that looked just like Clara Bow, silent movies famous IT girl! They had used this book to do it.

The next day I went and bought this book. I was incredibly impressed with it from start to finish.

Now for those who complained that Kevin didn't give name brands and exact color shades to buy, come on you guys! Do you really need to know every single item you should buy? If you need that much instruction these books are not for you! All you need is a a good sense of your own color to use his ideas to your best advantage. Besides Kevin makes it clear that these colors are not going to work on every skin type so you should using his information and enhance it to fit your own skin tones.

I would never wear some of the colors he suggested because I am too pale but I did use his guidlines with colors I already had and my friends had a fit over the change. I've never worn much makeup except to perform but with Kevin's instructions I could enjoy wearing makeup every day and not feel like some painted clown!!!

This is still one of the best books around for make-up common sense and how-to. Get it because there will be no more books from Mr. Aucoin who tragically died in May of 2002. It is shame that such a gifted, kind and loving person should be gone so soon. I would have bought his books for the rest of my life given the oportunity. His whit and sense of humor is delightful and a joy to read while learning the ins and out of make-up.

Summary: Great info & instruction in this book
Review: Aucoin's book provides simple, easy to follow instructions to imitate his techniques. The book begins by walking you through the basics, foundation, concealer, shading/highlighting etc, then on to the treatment of the face. From brows to lips, his techniques are illustrated step by step with commentary on not only how to do the techniques, but also the differences between different types of make-up (like the properties of matte eyeshadow vs. frosted, who knew?) Aucoin then provides instructions to achieve different "looks" from ultra glamour to simple minimalism, there are over 25 different "looks" to learn. Overall, a great book, I think his personal story and commentary is an added bonus - though I think he could lose the plastic surgery section to keep with his overall 'beauty in us all' theme. I highly recommend this book. Best one I've found thus far.

Summary: For anyone who's a make-up junkie, AND anyone who's not
Review: I am no make-up junkie. But I loved this book. I am a part-time model, but hadn't been able to reproduce the 'looks' used on me. This book has been an immense help in that. I've learned a lot with respect to creating and carrying looks on my face with 'normal day-wear' make-up. This book offers loads of tips, advice, instruction, and BIG pictures. Practicing and perfecting is up to the reader. Four stars for not enuff information on where to obtain the products Kevyn uses.
