Rating: Summary: The Art of Make-up Review: I bought this book since make-up has always been fascinating for me and wanted to learn some more before taking a professional course. I was complete surprised about the possibilities that make up can do with your face. I never thought that the correct application of colors and lighting could change in such a way a person. The way Mr. Aucoin makes it it's really incredible... you don't even need a plastic surgery to be as beautiful as many of the stars we see in the movies. It is really an art. And the instructions of how to do it are very practical to do at home. I would recommend it for any person who has interest in learning how to improve her appeareance and for make-up learning.
Rating: Summary: nice work---no substance Review: I bought this when it first came out and returned it because the book doesn't live up to how it was promoted at that time: This is NOT a text book and will teach nothing about how to apply make-up. It does have good pictures of excellent work done on famous people and it give s brief biography of Mr. Aucoin, but it makes no attempt to explain how and why he did what he did. It is a nice portfolio but not a text book. Go to Mary Quant or Bobbie Brown for that.
Rating: Summary: Making Fabulous!!! Review: Definately Kevyn's most fabulous book, it looks at celebrities and non-celebrities alike and he creates some of the best looks ever that are thoroughly copyable! Definately the most handy book of his to have around! I've ripped off several of these looks several times! Blurs the lines between coffee table book and instructional manual expertly! A true landmark of Kevyn's genious and art!!!
Rating: Summary: Wow! Review: I bought this for my wife ... It is amazing what a person can do with makeup! In this book, Mr. Aucoin transforms women with the use of makeup. The picture on the cover ... when I first saw it on Amazon.com I thought it was a clowns face, but it is actually the picture of a beautiful woman.
Rating: Summary: The is a BEAUTIFUL book Review: I love this book. It is excellent! I found so many ideas for creating great make-up looks. There are step by step detailed instructions will amazing color (a few black and white) picture of people he has done that illustrate the look. The book first breaks down different types of make-up/areas (lips/lipsticks) by describing characteristics and best usage (he matte v. glossy v. creamy). Then he makes over "regular" as well as some famous faces. I reference this book frequently when trying new looks. I particular likes that he does not endorse certain brand names. It is simply a guide to creating a variety of different looks through make-up.
Rating: Summary: Making Faces by Kevyn Aucoin Review: This is the most wonderful book ever. Its much bigger than I had expected. The makeup tips are wonderful. This is definately a book every girl should have. If you are reading this you must buy the book you won't be sorry. Enjoy, all!
Rating: Summary: Creating an Image Review: This book is awesome. For someone that never knew if they were doing something right or not, NOW I KNOW. The pictures are amazing and the instructions are REALLY easy. The author is very talented and it is a great addition to my library!
Rating: Summary: Best of the Best Review: I think out of all Kevyn's books, I like this one the most. The beggining of the book gives you an informative look at the different parts of makeup such as blush, fondation, and eyebrows. I liked how this book came with a lot of sketches and step-by-step instructions.
Rating: Summary: Inspiration and Instruction! Review: This is one of those books you buy on Amazon because of the high recommendations and appreciate for the amazing illustrations as well as the information within. The makeover transformations of celebrities is astounding, especially when you realize that it doesn't really matter how you look without makeup, but that you can look fabulous with the right application. Kevyn Aucion uses color and style, rather than specific cosmetics, to create whatever personna he sees for each woman. A great "picture book" and an excellent reference!
Rating: Summary: Yes, but I don't want to look like everyone else. Review: Making Faces is a fun read. Kevyn Aucoin is one of the beauty business top talents. However, I enjoyed reading Healthy Beauty using nature's secrets to look great and feel terrific by Letha Hadady. In the makeup and style genius chapters Clif de Raita, national director of makeup for Georgette Klinger, recommended makeup colors based on MY natural complexion and eye colors. I don't want to look like everyone else or like the fashion trend of the moment. I want to bring out my best features and colors. De Raita also recommended the right jewelry according to hair and complexion colors. Interesting and highly useful for everyone. I enjoy Making Faces for its pretty pictures and Healthy Beauty for its great information.
