Review: As soon as I laid eyes on it I knew it was for me. I was bored in an airport and decided to go to the bookstore (guess what I found?)This book provides in simple terms the basics of make-up for beginners. There are very diverse looks for anyone. I'm so excited now about putting on make-up! Trust me, you'll love it and it's a great gift. If you're thinking about purchasing it try amazon.com (it is cheaper)! I would recommend it for anyone.

Summary: Making Faces makes a fabulous gift to anyone and everyone!
Review: I recently received Making Faces as a Christmas present. The photographs of timeless celebrities and non-celebrities exube a radiance that can be brought out by Kevyn's simple, artistic makeup techniques. I especially enjoyed the before and after pictures. The author provided the reader with a funny, sentimental, and exhilarating ride through his life. Kevyn's talent and expertise are evident through his application of color on each individual. Pictures of Courtney Love as a starlet and Jean Harlow emanated with eloquence. Her tribute to Aucoin was phenomenal. The techniques are clearly described and the emphasis on "freedom" in applying makeup is much needed in today's society where blue eyeshadow, baby pink lipstick, and lipgloss are outlawed. Kevyn's quest to allow others to view makeup artists as true "artists" is accomplished.

Summary: Kevyn Aucoin's Making Faces is a must have for everyone.
Review: I was not a wearer of make-up nor was I interested in make-up books until I picked up Making Faces at a friends house. I immediately bought the book and haven't let it out of my sight since. It is well written and beautifully photographed. Kevyn Aucoin has also made it easy for the beginner to use this book and make them very capable. I would recommend this book to everyone.

Summary: Calendar as a step by step action guide to "Making Faces"
Review: At first reaction, this calendar was a disappointment since it has nothing that is not in Kevyn's book "Making Faces". Those "obsessed" with makeup, from fashion magazine editors to "posters" and "lurkers" on the newsgroup alt.fashion can never get enough of Kevyn's work. Upon careful observation, several of the monthly photos are different views than what is published in the book. Also the idea of having the different makeup techniques broken down on a semiweekly basis may prove to be an interesting guided systematic learning process to trying different cosmetic application techniques.

Review: I loved this book!!! I refer to it all the time. I am a makeup junkie and I am always looking to try new things and this book has given me the courage and the amunition to do just that!! I have played with looks and colors that I would not have ordinarily and now I swear by false eyelashes when I need that extra touch of diva glamour.Thanks Kevyn for such a wonderful book!!!

Summary: Look beautiful no matter your age, size or heritage
Review: If you're serious about applying makeup, this book is for you. Aucoin gives detailed instructions on how to achieve any makeup look from natural to extremely dramatic. He also lets the reader in on the secrets of the stars: you too can look like Audrey Hepburn or Marilyn Monroe, if you follow his instructions. I was especially pleased to see Aucoin's techniques demonstrated not just on glamorous stars but also on normal people of all ages and sizes and both sexes. He's got a lot of common sense, too; he puts only minimal makeup on his teenage models (they still look like teenagers after he's done -- what a concept!) and he doesn't think much of child beauty pageants. The book isn't perfect, though. Aucoin advocates putting eyeliner inside the lash line. Most eye doctors will tell you that's a bad idea, and so will most of us who lived through the first time this idea became popular. Pinkeye, anyone? He also doesn't put much emphasis on choosing the right colours for the reader's complexion. He advocates complete freedom, which of course is fine for someone experienced with choosing their makeup colours but doesn't help the neophyte who needs advice. But those are pretty minor complaints. This book is a fantastic tool for the person with some experience in applying cosmetics. I recommend it highly.

Review: This book is a must have! As a certified makeup consultant, I'm constantly learning new methods of applying makeup to achieve certain looks. Making Faces shows you how to create all types of looks on different types of people. Kevin AuCoin is incredible. There are many makeover pictures. You can believe what Kevin can do with makeup. He transforms people into anything they want to be! It's amazing. I take this book with me everywhere I go. My customers love it! It gives them great ideas and looks to try out. I would recommend this book to anyone. It's great for anyone from beginners to advanced makeup artists. The looks are varied from basic natural looking makeup to dramatic evening and costume makeup! This book is a must have!!
