Rating: Summary: Most efficient, most effective Review: Some people report that they have been doing the workout effortlessly and feel they are doing something wrong. No they're not. This awesome program actually energizes you instead of exhausting, the workouts are intense but short, giving you much time to rest and recover. The best part out of the whole thing is that you can achieve those Olympic gymnastics body types. Lean muscle, explosive power, and definitely not bulky. Look at the book cover, that is approx. the body type you can achieve. Like a friggin panther.
Rating: Summary: Great And Straightforward Book for all lifters Review: This book flows very well and is enjoyable to read! Pavel is very straightforward and does not waste a lot of time with scientific jargon. His program is so simple that is is impossible to get confused or overwhelmed. It is a great book for people who want to get stronger and leaner without putting on a lot of bulk. However, Pavel also reveals a great program for putting on strength and size as well. Definitely some unique information in this book that you will probably not find anywhere else. If you liked "Super Squats" and "Dinosaur Training" then you will love this book
Rating: Summary: Definitely worth it Review: The great thing about the book "Power to the People!" is that it tells the readers what not to do when training for strength and why not. As you read the book, you will keep saying to yourself: "so that's why I'm not getting stronger!" Pavel points out all the things that are wrong with conventional weight training(and there are lots of it)and shows the readers what they need to do to get stronger, but not necessarily bigger. Although there are some technical details that maybe unclear to beginners, Pavel summarizes everything into five principles: 1)Lift heavy 2)two sets only 3) 5 reps only 4)Rest 3-5 minutes 5)Never lift to failure. He explains mechanics of 3 core exercises in meticulous details so just about everyone can do it right, but I think video version of this book will be great too since it's easier to demonstrate actual moves on film. My only complaint is that it didn't have anything about endurance but I guess that's because that's whole another topic. At any rate, it was definitely worth it.
Rating: Summary: Power to the People: Russian Strength Training Secrets Review: Using Pavel Tsatsouline's weight training methods from his book Power to the People gives you the feeling that you can take on the world after only a 20-30 minute workout! I was reading an article in Outside Magazine about Jim Loehr, a trainer of world class athletes and corporate executives. He developed a method to substantially improve job performance by exercising every two hours at work for 10-15 minutes. (Loehr's book is entitled Stress for Success - translation: exercise for success.) I found Pavel's program compatible with Loehr's training ideas; you can adjust Pavel's routine to meet this time requirement. Tsatsouline's book is written with such cleverness, clarity, and detail that I couldn't put it down. I am thoroughly enthusiastic about weight training where my past indoor training consisted only of Yoga postures. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in enhancing their performance on the job, in weight training, and in other athletic pursuits. Pavel's genius is that he can take a complex subject like weight training and design a program that is enjoyable, efficient and gets fast results. He has done the same thing for abdominal development and stretching.
Rating: Summary: Lots of Money for so "Little Information" Review: There are plenty of good "reads" out there that you want to read for much cheaper of a price. If you are a "seasoned" veteran of the iron game and think you may find some kind of "russian secret" in Tsatsouline's book, you are sadly mistaken! After reading the likes of McRobert, Dreschler, Bryzki, and Zatsiorsky (who Tsatsouline quotes in this book), this comrade is a "joker". Tsatsouline recommends two exercises in his book, one of them is a common exercise and the other is (not saying it won't work) a little ridiculous! I would recommend this book only to the beginner due to the fact that you have tremendous potential and will respond to "any" type of training (just get off the couch). They say that the spice of life is "variety", well wait til you try his workout(el boro! ). Save your money on this one, you can buy two quality books from the authors from above for the price of this garbage.
Rating: Summary: Meaningful gains on 20 minutes a day? You're darn right! Review: I have experienced Pavel Tsatsouline's methods up close and in person, and his scientific approach lays waste to the muscleheaded garbage that we've been conditioned to follow. Pavel will show you how to achieve a full-body workout with just two core exercises and $150 worth of barbell equipment. You won't get injured and you won't get stiff. You'll just get what you were looking for in the first place - a program that works and one that you'll stick with.
Rating: Summary: The best source of strength Review: It isn't growth hormone... it's Pavel! This is THE definitive text on the art and science of strength training... and that's what it's all about, power! Page after page of the world's most useful and productive strength-training practices are explained in this book. A lot of experienced lifters, who think that they know how to train, will be humbled when they find out how much better Pavel's system is than anything the western iron-game community has ever done. Pavel explains how to build maximum strength (without adding extra bulk) through upgrading your nervous system's control over your muscles AND how to get huge and muscular, if that is your goal... and it's all right here, in black and white, with his usual easy to follow writing style. I have surpassed all my previous bests...and I no longer need or use lifting belts. I learned how to up-regulate tension through his "feed-forward" technique, how to immediately add AT LEAST ten pounds to every lift via "hyperirradiation", and to do it in my best form ever, and how to gain on every lift WEEKLY through the Russian system of periodization without any plateaus! Seriously, I gain every week! You only need TWO exercises! Pavel explains which ones, how to do them and how often. Also, you'll learn how to train to SUCCESS, not to "failure", how to immediately turn any lift into a "hyper lift", teach your nervous system how not to ever "miss" a lift, and simultaneously make your body far less injury-prone! Pavel illustrates the two types of muscle growth and which one you REALLY need, and the all-important power breathing. Pavel's training is the most valuable resource made available for strength athletes since the barbell. The breathing techniques alone are worth the asking price. This book is my personal favorite out of all his works, and in my opinion, they should be owned as a set. This book is superior to all the muscle mags and books that dwell on a content of unessential details of today's "fitness culture" and yet never fully explain the context of training for strength. Pavel cuts right to the heart of the "muscle mystery", by explaining the all-important context of the russian system: quick, efficient, permanent strength gains, without spending a small fortune on "me-too" bodybuilding supplements and without unnecessary, time consuming overtraining. Now I only hope he writes a book on full-contact training...
Rating: Summary: Testimonial-Results speak for themselves Review: Forget all of the fancy rhetoric. If you are serious about improving your strength and your health buy this book and pay attention to what's provided. I started in January 2000 doing deadlifts with 200 lbs. Three months later I was at 365 lbs. Pavel knows what he is talking about and knows how to explain it simply. That's it.
Rating: Summary: Interesting strength concepts... Review: Pavel presents a few different ideas about how to build maximum strength without mass in this book. Constant muscular tension (even with light weights) and frequent sessions are just a sample. The information is good and while I think you can build a decent foundation with his sample program (using only the deadlift and one-handed press), I think more advanced trainees would like to use his techniques applied to their current routines. A good resource, but I agree with the other reviewer that said it's a little higher-priced for the amount of info. provided.
Rating: Summary: Best book on this subject that I've ever read ! Review: I have spent hundreds of dollars on books about training, hoping to gain some insight or "secret" that would help me achieve my goals. Usually I'm happy if I get 1 or 2 small pointers from a book, but "Power To The People" is different. Not only is it an easy and entertaining read, it contains more good training information than any other book I've read before. The real payoff though, is in the results. My bench press shot up past all of my prior personal bests (higher than what I lifted 20 years ago). My strength in other areas also increased significantly. Another payoff, maybe even more important, my wife noticed (in a good way) a difference in my upper body and wanted to know what I'd been doing! Not a bad thing for the male ego. There have been some side effects though -- I spend less time in the gym, I feel strong, not burned out, my joints don't ache after my workouts and I'm not sore for several days a week after my workouts. Needless to say, I think this book is a must for any strength athlete, martial artist or anyonethat wants to be functionally strong and lean!
