Summary: Why is Flylady's advice so hard for people to understand?
Review: Yes, I am a Flybaby, so Marla's book and website have been very helpful to me. She made it clear on her site that the book contains most (if not all) of the basic information on her website about setting up zones, Morning and Evening routines and FLYing or "Finally Loving Yourself." The book is intended for those who might not have access to a computer or just want to feel something real in their hands as they begin to try to organize their lives and homes. I would like to reccomend both the book and website, for college students who are having a hard time being away from home and the routines of high school for the first time.

What amazes me about the critiques of Flylady's plan, is that her instructions aren't hard! It is simple to clean a room for 15 minutes, do some reading for 15 minutes and do a chore for 15 minutes. The process of developing your routines take time, but it isn't revolutionary. Marla's "ideas" are similar to those of AA, or other self-help groups, where to change destructive behavior you develop different routines. I am not comparing disorganization and lack of focus to alcoholism, but our lives are built around routines. Look around your home, school-life, or work-life--there are so many routines we have which often jeapordize our goals. Read her website or her book, and she will guide you in recognizing what routines are and aren't working, and the FlyTools, by which to change them.

Summary: Just read the book!
Review: Read this book from the beginning to the end! I am still trying to FLY and am SO GRATEFUL for this book and being on FlyLady's list. I work full time and have found this book and the techniques that Marla teaches to be so helpful. Reading this book may be hard to digest at first, but that's when you start to realize that you are a perfectionist and the damage that it does to you and your family, home, friends, etc. Letting go of the attitude that you have to clean all day is the only acceptable way of cleaning, is very good for the soul! But the greatest thing about this book is that Marla Cilley is more concerned with people and that they are taking care of themselves and their families better, than spending all that time cleaning! She helps you let go of the "martyr me" attitude and realize that taking care of all aspects of your home, not just cleaning, is a wonderful way to show your family that you care and that it can be done in just 15 minutes at a time!!!
Proud to be Flying in Idaho

P.S. My sink is shined!!!

Summary: Sink Reflections
Review: Anyone who doesn't enjoy the wonderful way this book is presented is either BO (born organized) or just flat doesn't need it because they are perfect. I've found this to be the most fun I've ever had learning how to do things in 15 minute sprints. I'm a full time employee with a hubby, kids, and pets along with my lingering illness. This book has taught me more than I had ever hoped for, and a fun way to enjoy doing it. I'm very thankful that this book and those emails are available or I'd still be in CHOAS. My hat is off to flylady and her following speaks for itself. I think anybody who doesn't follow it is not ready to make a change in their life. I was able to toss out all the other books on housekeeping which are too many to name since I've found Flylady. It will work for anybody who needs it, it's just a matter of getting off that franny and incorporating it into your lifestyle. :-)

Summary: Wonderful book!
Review: This is a wonderful book! While my house is still not as orderly as it should be, this book provides concrete steps to help me get it there. Thank you, Marla!

Summary: ...not quite as much for everyone as i'd hoped...
Review: Firstly, I bought the book because a friend of mine warned me about all the e-mails. I thought the book would help me come up with a (much needed!) alternative cleaning routine. My house was clean and uncluttered to begin with, and I'm an organized person. However, I thought there HAD to be a better way to clean than to spend morning till night on Saturdays cleaning the house from top to bottom. This book gave me that much needed alternative, and I'm in my third week of applying the author's approach.
I do, however, feel this book and the entire program is geared much more toward stay-at-home moms, though the author insists otherwise. I try to stay consistent with the author's approach and do all the tasks I'm supposed to do each day. Granted, devoting only 15 or 30 minutes daily in that week's required "zone" (in additon to the one hour of 'general' cleaning once a week) isn't bad at all; that's really not a lot of time. If that's ALL you have to do! But for women who work outside of the home, it's hard to make just ONE day an errand day. If you get off at 4:00 or 5:00 in the afternoon, just when are you supposed to run to the bank? What if the only bank close to your job is a 20 minute drive, and you only get 30 minutes for lunch? (Saturdays and Sundays are supposed to be reserved for family and friends. The BANK is about to be MY friend, OKAY?) Are you telling me you are supposed to run to the drycleaners, pick up a week's worth of groceries, buy the extra pair of shoes your child needs, pick up flea meds at the vet --- ALL after 5:00 p.m.? And still be expected to cook dinner, fold the load of clothes you threw in the washer this morning ('cause they sho 'nuff don't fold THEMSELVES!), clean your weekly 'zone', clean the kitchen, scrub the sink and do your 'nightly routine' (and you KNOW it's a full one!)? What about the time it takes to help your kids with their homework and give them baths? (forGET about taking yourself a warm bubble bath to reward yourself...you'll fall asleep in the tub from sheer exhaustion!) Women who work outside the home just don't have this kind of time! What if we have a 30 minute or more commute, and still have to do the drop off and pick up of kids from daycare?? Heaven forbid, what if you're a single mom??!! What day are you expected to cut the grass?! It seems to me that if you are a single mother who works full time, this book just won't entirely work for you. It's a good book that you'll be able to glean helpful suggestions from, but I just can't see the entire program working for you. It definitely seems geared toward stay-at-home moms at the least, and women who have husbands at the worst! Not every home is set up that way, and single moms who have young children and work full time need a book written especially for them. I'm not a mother, and I'm not single, yet I can see the slant in this book. With that in mind, I did find it helpful, albeit 'sappy' at some points. I really think many women can benefit from it. Just not all women.

Summary: Flylady is the coolest!
Review: I've been a "flybaby" for a few months now and just read her book over the weekend. This is not another "get organized" book. Flylady teaches you how to love yourself, quit being a martyr, bless your home, family, friends and others with the decluttering of your home all with a new attitude. My family has noticed a huge difference in our home in the past few months and are pitching in to keep it up as well. We're moving soon to another state and the amount of STUFF that has left this house is amazing! You will feel so liberated getting rid of the things that don't bless your family or home and that you don't love. I bought the book for a friend and know she will soon be flying as well. Get the book and God Bless you!

Summary: Worth it's weight in gold...
Review: This is the best self-help book on caring for your home that I have ever read! The book is fast-paced, easy to read, and totally motivating! Marla Cilley's warmth, encouragement, common sense and kindness, combined with excellent practical advice, make for a truly wonderful and unique book. And it's fun to read the testimonials and realize you're not alone. I've had this book only a week and it has helped me more than I can say. (The 27-fling boogies are especially fun!) I recommend this book to anyone who, like me, has a problem with organization.

Summary: So-so book, website is better
Review: After becoming familiar with the...user group, I looked forward to reading Marla Cilley's book. However, I was disappointed to find that much of the book content was on the website or contained in the user group reminders. On a positive note, Cilley's cleaning "style" is refreshing, unpretentious, and worthwhile. I use some of her suggestions daily.

Summary: Get FLYing Today!
Review: I love FLYlady, I love the website, I love her system, I love this book! When I first discovered FLYlady (on her website), I went crazy, printing off everything, etc. But that just made more clutter. But still, I HAD to have it all where I could easily get my hands on it...and I found every bit of it and then some in Sink Reflections. Now I have all the info at my fingertips without all the clutter!
