Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Religion and sloppienes? Review: Well, I wouldn't have a clue wether those two would go together, because I'm not a christian. I also don't like people preaching at me about their god. But I've been on the flylady mailing list since May and my home is improving (slowly, because I sometimes still don't get my but into gear). I don't mind her Godbrezes, in fact I just read over the "g-word" and enjoy what she writes. She doesn't talk about god much actually and I would have noticed if she did (I really dislike people talking about god instead of telling me what I need to know). What I really love about flylady is that she's always encouraging us. She doesn't say "you can do better than that" or "have you still not done this?!" she can't look into our homes, but sometimes it really fells like she is standing right there telling me "wow, just look at that shiny sink!" and then I spread out the shining because it makes me happy! She encourages by praise and it works, unlike trying to encourage by putting people down for "not having done enough". Shine your sink, even if you don't do anything else for the day it's okay. Just do one thing everyday to spready the shining and in a weeks time you'll see the difference. Even just one of her hot spot fire drills will make a difference (hot spot=an area where you put thing "for later" and later never comes, so you have one pile of STUFF that makes the whole room look trashed <- mine is my desk :-( But I'm working on it a little at a time. Thank you Fly Lady) Well, I'm not perfect and I probably won't ever be that but I'm making progress! Thanks to Flylady who's always "standing there your out of my sight" cheering me on when I do something right and telling me "baby steps!" when I feel like I didn't do enough.Flylady there's 5 gold Stars for you. (I would have given you more, but they don't let you put in the numbers)

No magic in buying the book as there is no magic in buying a diet book BUT.. this is written and formulated for those of us who get off-track and spend much of our lives doing nice things but NOT caring for our home regularly every day. She gives a plan using small amounts of time DAILY! It becomes your motivation to check off jobs done and seeing progress made. MANY women have been helped and once again after new challenges in my life I am using a timer to tackle the big jobs 15 minutes at a time. The no whining and complaining attitude helped, too. There is peace of mind in order vs chaos. A worthwhile view of life.

Let's just say that due to Marla's wonderful ideas and constant support via daily emails, on December 5 my Christmas shopping is finished, my gifts are wrapped and under my tree, the house is completely decorated, my Christmas cards are mailed, my cookies are baked, and for the rest of December, I am going to do nothing but enjoy the wonderful holiday season. If you need a break from your perfectionist self, set a timer for 15 minutes and check out her website...you won't regret it!
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: This book will save you money Review: I was convinced that I needed to buy a new (bigger) house, but once I realized I was living in CHAOS (and that somebody knew what that was and had been there too) and that before I rushed right out to buy that new place I had some decluttering to do -- I got right to it. 15 minutes at a time over only about a month (long enough to establish a habit) I discovered that my house was plenty big enough -- I just needed to stop housing all that clutter and instead decide that the rooms needed only to hold essentials -- and that the only true essentials were my family and me. Now, the effects of the book are reaching into every area of my life -- my Christmas present selection (I don't want to give something that will just be clutter in the hands of the recipient), my purse, my budget, my exercise, my diet, my LIFE. It is absolutely amazing. Yes, there is a certain amount of "religious" content. I just substitute the word epiphany for God Breeze -- and keep on reading. The website (and the daily flow of emails and testimonials) are amazingly wonderful. The best part of the book and of the system is -- we clutter-maniacs are not alone and just knowing that someone else has suffered the pain of being so messy that you are afraid to have anyone see your house is comforting -- and inspires us FlyBabies to get moving for the next 15 minutes to make one little spot just that much better. Also, I would like to reply to the "irreducible chore and it MUST take a certain amount of time" comment: If when I get up in the morning and in using the bathroom sink while brushing my teeth just happen spend time wiping the sink and counter (time I would be standing there anyway) -- is that time spent cleaning or time spent brushing my teeth? I realize that it is both, but that is just one tiny example of how that "certain irreducible amount of time" can be handled. If in cooking dinner you clean up along the way, is that cooking or cleaning? If in clearing the table nothing gets stacked in the sink (where it pauses for a week before it makes it to the dishwasher) but just goes straight into the dishwasher, is that clearing or cleaning? If you know what you are going to wear tomorrow because you have laid it out the night before (and have noticed if the skirt needs hemming or the blouse needs to be ironed -- and so handled it in a few minutes that night), is that just being prepared or is that cleaning? Above all -- I have discovered that I have too much (and don't need to buy or receive any more) -- and I have discovered the blessings that come to me from giving my too much away to people who have too little. And all from this little bitty book. BUY IT or go to flylady.net!
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Put Your Home in Order and Turn Your Life Around Review: For some people, this may be yet another book that they buy in hopes of finding some miracle solution for helping them clean their messy homes. But unless you put the suggested routines in place and actually get off your "franny" and do something, this book will not be the cure. However, if you are truly ready to learn to love your home and yourself, this book is for you. What I loved about Sink Reflections was the fact that it seemed like Marla Cilley was talking directly to me. She doesn't berate the reader for being a slob, but instead explains how the perfectionism that some of us strive for actually stands in the way of our progress. We have to learn to take "baby steps" and do a little bit at a time and be happy with our progress, even if it is slow. Although some of the suggestions, like always wearing lace-up shoes, and shining your sink may seem silly and pointless, once you begin doing this, you will see how much of a difference these things make. One of the biggest helps I found in the book was the concept of decluttering. I have always been a pack rat, saving things I might be able to use someday or feeling like I had to hold onto stuff because I spent money on it. The FlyLady system inspired me to get rid of so much stuff that it has been easier to keep the house much cleaner just by donating or throwing away items I no longer loved or needed. And finally, the biggest thing that the FlyLady teaches us in Sink Reflections is that it's all about your attitude. You have to believe that you are worth it and that you want and deserve a clean and happy home. It's amazing how all the other chaos in your life (finances, scheduling, relationships) also begin to fall into place, just by applying some of the principles found in this book. Get the book. Read it. And then begin your flight. You won't be disappointed.
