Summary: Important! Why You Should Buy This Book!!
Review: This book is clearly a labor of love. I know it's changing my life, slowly but surely -- I can look around my home now and feel hopeful and happy, instead of depressed and despairing. But that's not the only reason you should buy this book.

You should buy this book because you don't have to.

FLYlady has made all of the information available on her website, and through her mailing list. It's free. It's there to help people in CHAOS crisis, even the ones who can't afford to buy the book and are getting their information on the computer at the public library. And it's changing their lives for the better just like it changed mine.

The world gets changed like that, one life at a time. Women (and men, too, I suppose) don't just clean up their houses with the ideas and advice given in this book, they clean up their acts. They start taking pride in themselves. They start getting out of situations where they and their children are endangered because they realize that they deserve better. They begin to FLY!

So I bought this book because I know that those little royalty payments help keep that free outreach going (not to mention that it's great having the whole program laid out in one place). And the world needs places like flylady.net.

Summary: I can't believe this is me!
Review: I bought this book as a "gratitude" purchase, but am finding it valuable to have all the information in book form. Flylady's website and emails have already started to change my life - and my house - even though years of trying other systems had not.

I'm very educated and can pull off grand projects at work, but my house has never been neat for more than one day, and that after mad panic cleaning due to guests being scheduled. No matter how much I resolved to not let it get bad again, I just couldn't seem to keep it together. My shame, and sense of failure, were unspeakable. And I thought, permanent. But I just needed to learn from someone who conquered lifelong chaos. This system works, and it is EASY! I simply cannot believe how much less time and stress this system takes, and how much better life is becoming. Oh, Thank God!

Now that flylady's book is in print, more people will be able to start living in peace rather than chaos. What a relief! Thank you Flylady, from the bottom of my heart. And my husband thanks you, too!

Summary: Was the FlyLady looking thru my window?
Review: I thought I was the only person in the world who was totally overwhelmed by the CHAOS I call home, but when I read this book I found out that there are a lot of people just like me. I found this book at a point in my life when I was totally overwhelmed. This book has saved my life. I am organized and my house is clean. What more could you want? My kids even argue over who gets to "Shine" their bathroom sink. They wanted to shine the kitchen sink, but i enjoy it too much!!! I gave them their own sink to shine.

Summary: We love the Flylady
Review: I read about this book in an article in a magazine and went straight out and bought it. I also joined the on-line group, and it has been the best thing I have done. It does seem to some people that picking one problem area in your home, like the kitchen sink, to concentrate on and this will solve your problems would be a ridiculous proposition. Obviously anyone who has tried it will disagree. The feeling of accomplishment you get by this one task spills over to every aspect of your life. Routines are the key here, and that all starts with taking care of you -- getting dressed and feeling great first (not staying in yucky clothes all day because you may be home alone all day or JUST with your kids...)and doing things to make you feel good. Then keeping your surroundings in such a way that you love your home and it is a joy to be in. Marla has helped me so much just change attitudes and "stinking thinking." Obviously if you are born organized, this whole concept may seem silly, but if you are like the other 90% of the world, you may not be able to live happily without the Flylady!

Summary: This book has changed my life!
Review: Marla Cilley's book has helped me in all areas of my life. The simple foundation ideas of getting routines going, doing things now, and decluttering your home, your body, and your mind are great, but the thing that really makes this program work where others don't is Marla's (Flylady's) wonderful spirit. She has been where many of us are now; trying to get our lives and homes in order, but overwhelmed and not sure where to start, so she knows just what we need to hear to encourage us to get moving. Her sayings and catchphrases may seem cutesy at first, but after only a week I started to use those phrases happily - they are descriptive and make me smile. Marla's cheery attitude is evident in each one.
This system has not only helped me at home, but has also helped me at work. I am making much more money this year than I did last year; I have implemented her routines at each of my jobs, and knowing that I am consistant and do things well every day has made me confident enough to raise my rates and look for more interesting jobs.
The last reviewer commented that this book was for Stepford Wives. Let me tell you, as a 28 year old feminist, bisexual, agnostic, Libertarian, purple-haired, activist of a landscaper, that this program is for *anyone* who needs some help getting their life into order. Wanting to gain control over your life and home does not make you a Stepford Wife, thank you very much.
This is a great addition to any library, but please use it in conjunction with the emails. The book has the basics, but Flylady's emails and spirit are what makes this program soar.

Summary: If you are reading this online, you don't need to buy it!
Review: I loved this book; it was great. It was very helpful, and inspiring, and all the things that everyone claims. BUT... every SINGLE useful tip in the book is available for FREE on the FlyLady website (flylady.net). Every last one.

I have lent this book around to my friends and family who are less inclined to get their info online, so it wasn't a waste of money for me personally. But if you have an internet connection (which I assume you must if you are reading this!), you can read the book for free on the site - almost word for word. With the money you'll save, you can buy all the supplies for your Control Journal!

Summary: Lifechanging
Review: Stepford wife? Please! I am an educator with two college degrees and although happily married, have no children and like to work out with martial arts! This book is for ANYONE who feels like the clutter in their house has taken them over. My house was always messy and I had basically given up, thinking that there were clean people and messy people, and I was doomed to be one of the latter. I picked this book up on a whim at a local book store and was instantly intrigued. Imagine, a organizing book that makes no mention of buying nifty new containers or redoing your home to contain your crap! Flylady operates on the principal that if something in your home is causing you stress or if you are looking at it with disinterest or hate, it's time to LET IT GO! Toss it! Goodbye! This was a real novelty to a pack rat like me, and it has truly changed how I look at my home and the items within. While I am far from completely organized yet, it has made a HUGE difference and my home is far more serene now then it ever has been. I am slowly getting rid of everything that is not deserving a place in my life and I am all the better for it. This is the ONE organizing book out there that will really make a difference! Thank you Flylady!

Summary: The perfect Companion...
Review: Marla's first book is a triumph! It's the perfect companion to all of Pam Young and Peggy Jones' books, made even more perfect by the fact that Marla credits the Sidetracked Sisters with her success! I've been a P & P fan forever, and wanted very much to be organized, but even P & P's easy-to-follow methods eluded me. I needed someone to guide me step-by-(baby)step as to where to start, and how to keep going. I joined the FlyLady list in 1999, but still was drowning in CHAOS (Can't Have Anyone Over Syndrome). It wasn't until I ordered Marla's book, and decided to try to keep my sink shiny, that a little bit of what I've been reading about all these years finally kicked in. For one solid month now, my kitchen has been clean and uncluttered! It is truly amazing - my Dear Husband is so happy when he gets up at five A.M. to feed our cats without having to contend with dirty dishes in the sink, and washed dishes all over the drain board. He loves the no clutter in the kitchen rule. And I love going into the kitchen and seeing everything shine. It's a small start (a baby step!), but eventually I hope to see my whole house decluttered and shiny. And I finally see some light at the end of the cluttered tunnel! Thank you, FlyLady, and Pam and Peggy, for sharing yourselves with the rest of us!

Summary: Great ideas!! Great Book!
Review: My only complaint about this book is that I wish it addresssed more about how to incorporate your business obligations/schedule into the Flylady system. Also-more about office and desk organization.

It's a fabulous book. I just want more!

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Take what you need, leave the rest.
Review: There is a lot of great advice in this book. The clutter clearing tips alone make this a great addition to your library of housecleaning books. I also love the advice that even housecleaning done incorrectly still blesses the family, because I know that sometimes we can get hung up on the notion of doing things right or not doing them at all.

However, you will have to tailor the system to suit your family and your needs. For example, we just have two people in our house, it is very easy to keep our home clean with just some simple pick up and staying on top of laundy. The rountines suggested actually make it harder for me. For people with children, or with health problems, you may also have a hard time doing everything "by the book". Marla does encourage you to set it up the way that works for you though, which I appreciate.

There is one point that really bothered me in this book. Most women who will read this book, may have a husband who does absolutly nothing around the house. She basically says to get over it, and just do it yourself. She makes it a point that if you were living alone you would have to do all the chores yourself, so you may as well do them now without complaint. That'd be great if you were still living alone, but in a household with two adults, it seems fair that the wife has a little help, especially if both spouses work outside the home. I don't think it is too much to ask that a husband, or wife, pick up after themselves. I like the system in another book much better for dealing with married chores... basically if one spouse works 8 hours outside the home, and the other doesn't work, then the non-working spouse puts in 8 hours in the home. You divide it equally, so that if both spouses are working no one feels like they are working all day and all night. (See the Simple Living Guide for more details)

Overall it is a good book for getting ideas of how to improve your household by implementing the use of routines. There are also good cleaning tips, and her writing style is easy to read. Just be sure that you don't drive yourself crazy trying to do everything she tells you! Take the good, and what works, and leave the rest behind.
