Rating: Summary: The Best Book... Review: I bought and read this book cover to cover, prior to having my Breast Augmentation (completed 1/19/00). It is the best source of information from pre-op questions to locate the best doctor to post-op recovery techniques. I am lucky enough to live in Dallas and had my operation completed by Dr. Tebbetts. Both he and his wife, Terrye, co-author of the book, were wonderful in providing all the necessary information I needed to make the most informed decision. I highly recommend this book to every woman who is considering a Breast Augmentation.
Rating: Summary: Not the "best" book in my opinion! Review: I don't know about anyone else, but I got tired of feeling like they are speaking to me as if I'm a dumb blond. Page after page of exclamation points and bold, 30 pitch fonts drove me nuts! I received this book free because I had set up a consultation with their office (phone consult). I spoke with Terrye- who is not even a plastic surgeon , rather the wife of the plastic surgeon- who was very rude and snide. I think there are probably better books out there on the subject that will speak to you on an INTELLIGENT level and not assume that because you desire implants that you are some uneducated person who can't read and comprehend some medical terminology.
Rating: Summary: The Best Breast Book Ever! Review: I found this book to be one of the best resources for honest and comprehensive information about breast implants. Without any sugar-coating, this book tells women what they really need to know. I have breast implants and think it is extremely important that women know what they are doing when they make a decision to have breast aumentation. An educated patient is the best patient and, for that reason, this book as "required reading." Nicol
Rating: Summary: The Best Breast Review: I have been looking at my chest since at least the age of 16 and waiting for my breasts to grow. I am now 42 and through the years have tried everything from meditation, herbs, therapy, and magnets to bring the "dog ear flaps" to full perky breasts. When I decided to get implants, it was because while I see myself as pretty, when I take my clothes off, my self esteem goes down. When I had each of my 2 children, part of enjoying nursing them was the way my 2 full breasts looked and felt. Over the last 2 years I had interviewed 5 Doctors from San Antonio and Austin with a range of 8-25 years experience. All 5 told me very much the same information... that I should plan on about 10 days to 2 weeks to be unavailable for work, that I would wear a tight sports bra around my chest, that there would be drain tubes. Each Dr. had me either pick out my favorite looking breast from pictures or to stuff my bra with an implant to get me "sized". I was told that I would take lots of medication including Percoset for pain, Phenegram for nausia, Soma for relaxation and Keflex an antbiotic with extra costs from $100-$125. I thought they were all so much the same that the deciding factor would be cost ranging from $3300.-$5500. and the Doctor that I would be most compatible with. I went ahead and scheduled and meanwhile discovered Dr. Tebbets book, "The Best Breast". I could not put it down! I could tell this Doctor specialized in the subject of breast augmentation. Yes, he's a plastic surgeon for other surgeries, but his interest and caring were very clear. He developed a breast implant that is shaped like a natural breast. Way more importantly, the way he does surgery gives the patient a much better outlook. For instance the instrument used during surgery makes bleeding virtually non existent after surgery and healing almost painless. No drain tubes or tight sports bra needed. This Doctor measures just how large an implant your body tissue can hold before showing through thin skin. All together Dr. Tebbets perfected this surgery and recovery for our comfort and best look now and for the future. Obviously I decided to go with him, am now 4 months post surgery and couldn't be happier. The day after surgery I was out looking at houses with my mother in law all day. I washed my hair, had my arms up over my head, had no bleeding and no bandages except 2 tiny bandaides over the incision and so little discomfort that I used the prescribed Ibuprofen the next 2 days only because I thought that I should! I was given Dyphenhydramine for nausia but never used it once. The drugs costed $17.00 and they are still sitting in my medicine cabinet. I had taken 2 weeks off of work because I couldn't believe I'de be ready, but it turned out to be a vacation instead of a recovery. I followed Dr. Tebbets book and advice to the letter and had a wonderful experience. His book is highly recommended. See for yourself between your own interviews with other Doctors. For a lifelong decision such as breast implants, get all the information you can and make reading this book part of that research. It was so worth it. Sincerely, Michele Z. Austin, Texas
Rating: Summary: This Book is Biased Review: I have been to two consultations with two different doctors fora breast augmentation and both doctors had nothing positive to sayabout this author or this book. I began reading the section on round vs. anatomical implants and noticed right away that there was a huge bias towards anatomical implants. I got suspicious and flipped to the back cover. There I learned that Dr. Tebbets was one of the designers of the anatomical implant. I also found out that he gets paid (the equivalent of a royality) each time a doctor uses an anatomical implant. Read this book with a grain of salt. Better yet, don't buy it. Save your money for your operation and check this book out at the library.
Rating: Summary: To learn, this book cannot be beat Review: I haven't read too many breast enhancing books. In fact all what I know is learned from the internet. Many questions, even more concerns and a load of options I didn't realize were around are describe in a great format in this book. It even goes into how to find the best surgeon for the job. For an important change in life such as implants-reseach is a must, and this book is a great tool for that research on the total process involved. A note-this book does mostly assume that you have made up your mind to have the procedure done. If your looking for a book to help you decide on implants, this may not be the best chioce. But again, you'll get everything else wrapped around it.
Rating: Summary: Is there a section on surgical mistakes? Review: I went to Tebbetts some years ago mislead by his website that he was 'the best' choice for augmentation surgery. One of the anatomical implants was placed upside down--Oops! I had to go to another surgeon for corrective surgery and wasted $7,000 (not to mention pain and suffering) with the Tebbetts. I have been very pleased with my smooth, round implants. The surgeon I went to for the correction was recommended to me by another woman unhappy with results through John Tebbetts office. I do not trust the man nor would I trust any of his advice.
Rating: Summary: Good info, but some is biased. Review: I'm a recent augmentation patient (January 2002). Even though I had already selected my surgeon (a member of the ASAPS as well as the ASPS), this book had excellent advice to follow when choosing your surgeon. A great, caring staff who welcomes any question or concern is a must. He also gave good info on what to expect after surgery, through recovery. And the cut out reminder cards in the back of the book? Those are a great idea! But, on the subject of implants, Dr. Tebbetts was incredibly biased, favoring McGhan anatomical implants, which he has a financial stake in. I do not believe anatomical implants are a must for first time patients; I think the Mentor round implants were a great choice for me. In his book, Dr. Tebbetts says that if you overfill the implant to make it last longer, it "voids the warranty!!!" Well, what manufacturer voids the warranty if it's overfilled? I noticed that he doesn't tell us in his book, to back up his statement. When my surgeon told me he would overfill my 425cc Mentor implants to smooth out wrinkles, I asked if that would void the warranty, and he said that Mentor does not void the warranty for overfilling. I checked with Mentor myself; they confirmed this. So if Dr. Tebbetts could tell us if it's McGhan that voids the warranty, that would be helpful.
Rating: Summary: A1 MEDICAL INFO/ NOT FOR THE GIRL WHO WANTS BIG BREAST Review: Some useful information, but for the most part, if you want full, breast c cup or larger, information is not useful. Dr. Tebbetts takes a very conservative point to breast augmentation, useing small implants and insisting on a NATURAL look. After photo's of his work are not impressive. I love the question portion of the book, it will help in choosing a surgeon, and other medical info is great, but as far as placement, size, and apperance, he leaves a lot to be desired. He also disagrees with the majority on most placement issues. If you have a tublar breast, or you are a AA cup, and desire on a B cup, it is worth the reading. If you desire a D cup, save your money for the consult.
Rating: Summary: Buy this book ! Review: The Best Breast is all you need to make an informed decision that will change your body for a lifetime. There is a surprising amount of information that one should consider prior to undergoing breast augmentation. This book presents all of the information that you need in an easy to read format. After interviewing several local surgeons, we talked with Dr. Tebbetts and his staff and found them to be head and shoulders above the rest. As a result, we made the decision to fly to Dallas to have Dr. Tebbetts perform the surgery. Not only do we recommend this book for every person considering breast augmentation, but feel that every plastic surgeon should read this book as well. This book is fabulous!
