Summary: A personality test for thinking people
Review: Granted, personality tests can never quite be taken seriously; most function like horoscopes--one-size-fits-all: as long as the test-taker wishes to coincide with the results, they are imaginatively verified. But coming to the Keirsey as a skeptic, I've found it unexpectedly accurate, on each of two very different occasions. When I tried the original version of the Keirsey several years ago, its insights had been interesting and useful; but when it occurred to me recently to take the test again, this time with _Please Understand Me II_, I was really struck by the ways in which the results differed, and how certain differences in my personality had been pinpointed, again, with much accuracy. So, even as I'd never trust an assessment of this format to divine anything like a true self, the test did give me occasion for recognizing some of the fundamental changes I had undergone over the years. (For those who might be trying to pick between the two, this second edition I think is more thorough than the first.) On this purely practical basis I would recommend the book, as a possible aid toward fuller self-understanding. Critical and detailed, it's the only "personality test" I've come across that doesn't abuse one's intelligence.

Summary: I found out what the problem was!
Review: Because my type (eNFp) is so rare (like three percent of the population), I was always wondering why I couldn't find a lady like me to have a relationship. Of course I found many different women, but never one that was like me. This explains why, and also how I don't necessarily have to be with someone just like me.

Summary: Look no further if you're trying to understand relationships
Review: The greatest thing about this book is that it can clearly explain many relationship mechanisms. That is it gives some insight as to why some relationships work and others don't. For me it showed me, very clearly, the reason why I love the person I do, and why I'm so attracted to her emotionally and intellectually. As it turns out we are both INFJ Counsellors.

Summary: The Book that Changed My Life Completely....and some I Love*
Review: I'd like to congratulate and give a warm BIG HUG the Author of this book who has brought together alot of tough preparation and research and personal knowledge to the creation and publication of this book.

At one point in my life, I was going through a devastating time of change and suffering within myself. Not knowing who I was or where I was going. Pondering on the meaning of life and what my purpose was. I struggled to find the solutions that I wanted or needed. I was pursuing things in my life, I felt uncomfortable with and I was extremely unhappy. I engaged into events that were comforting, like chatting on the internet for hours...increasing the phone bill to a crazy amount and being bearly able to pay for it... I was a clear Mess...! Cutting a long story Short...I bought the book, and after some professional counselling at the Business Developement Centre in Glasgow. I came alive with the book. It gave me my own personal meaning, my own truth and my own self. I was one new person. I had crystallised alot of uncertain things that I had in my life. I had cleared my unhappiness and doubtness of things and life. I was re-united with my family, that I truely and awesomely always loved, even when I neglected them through my own unhappiness. I was human again, I was relieved and so releaved I cannot explain the felt experience of change that came over my life at the time of this process. In my opinion, the book is a process, a clear path the personal, individual success. Anyone can do it...If you Believe you cannot do it, then you will not, but if you believe and try you will do it...It's all in the head....control it, nurture it, love it.

For those of you who are afraid of change in your life, you will never grow...it's important to grow, so that you can move on the better things and ways in your life.

Achievement:

"Unless you try to do something beyond what you have already mastered, you will never ever grow."

After my own personal and dramatical change, I came across a person who I met in college. She was seeking help. I knew through my experience and my reading of the book, that I could help her, and I did. Finding out I was an INFJ(counsellor), I approached and offered to help...she accepted and she has changed so much in the ways I did...* funny to say* she came out the same as me, an INFJ(counsellor) and we had so much in common...* We share alot to this day, after meeting her 1 year ago to this day!...* I love her very much * and thank fate for guiding me to her and giving her a new gift of happiness and life...* she now has all the tools to survive emotionally and psychologically. I'm proud of her.

Finally, I'd like to say, the book has saved 2 souls and i feel when you prepare yourself to read the book. Please be sensitive about it.

Many Best Wishes and Thank you for listening

Summary: Dead-on
Review: My friend bought this book for me,and it is scary the accuracy with which it explains the different personality types. These traits can even be seen in the reviews written about it. Take the INTJ's review. Every word written wreaks with his personality type. If you are an NF or just interested in personal development or a better understanding of people, you should definitely buy this book.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Not perfect, but highly valuable and interesting
Review: Overall, I think this is a wonderful book and I even think it should be introduced in schools. When you take the test and find out your personality type, you can then read about your type. For the most part, its quite accurate, although I was reading things that were supposedly about me that weren't necessarily true. However, I feel it would be safe to say that practically everybody fits in roughly into one category mostly. But what I think is more important than just learning about yourself, but learning about others. This book teaches you some things you may loathe in others but its not their fault, just their natural personality. Next time you run into someone who is demanding, or a neat freak, or is loud and rude, you will be more tolerant of them. I would've given this 5 stars, because I think they should've expanded on the sub-types (I'm an INFP) instead of going on at length about the main types. But other than that, excellent book!

Summary: Great tool for understanding yourself and others!
Review: The title says it all. I read the section on my type (INFJ) and I felt that, finally, someone understood me and my motivations. Being an NF, I assumed that everyone was looking for self-actualization like I was. Now I know that they're not, at least not in the way I thought. Like others have said, the people around me are sick of hearing me go on and on about "SP this" and "NT that," but that doesn't stop me because I've found it an excellent shorthand way of explaining behaviors. I would like to see a book discussing the "darker side" of the temperaments--are certain temperaments prone to certain neuroses? I recommend PUMII highly.

Summary: Great voyage
Review: I really enjoyed the NT style writing in this new book. Dr. Keirsey has influenced me to learn more about myself and to explore the others. When I bought this book I also ordered a complimentary booklet called Understanding Yourself and Others an Introduction to Temperament. I found this to be a very helpful resource when learning about the temperaments. I have benefited so much from this information I hope everyone who comes in contact with this information have the same revelations as I did.

Summary: interesting but not particularly useful
Review: I first took the temperament test in college and found I was INTJ, which is supposedly a rare occurence. While it was interesting to have an explanation and some quantitative data on how I function the way I do, it was not practical knowledge. I took the test again this year and am still in that marginal INTJ group. I find it really interesting that these researchers fall into the pitfall of speculating on temperaments of people dead before the first edition of this book came out, such as Ayn Rand. For something so meticulously researched and designed to suddenly jump into the realm of speculation and bad science makes me question the aim of this book and put it back on the shelf. I question the validity of the temperament compatibilities (which reads suspiciously like astrology), as well as the attempt by the authors to place temperaments into career pathways and interests. Some people may find this all very elucidating and helpful, but not many, and I can only see this book being important to clinical psychologists trying to help patients figure out who the heck they are and how.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: One of the most interesting books I have ever read!
Review: I was first intimidated by the length and outline of the book, so I read bits and pieces to get a feel for the subject matter. Then I jumped in and read it cover to cover. I learned so much about myself and my friends. My office workers are a little tired of hearing me talk about it, but I seem to be getting more into it. I committed myself to memorizing all of its details so I can inform others of it. My friends who like archetypal concepts are intrigued by what I told them about themselves and their relationships. Theirs a wealth of ideas to work with and I was able to sythesize another Jungian book I once learned years ago to add to my understanding of myself and others.
