Rating: Summary: The best a man can get... Review: This book really is the ultimate in men's fitness. The language is straightforward, clear, and concise. The guide is also incredibly comprehensive, covering everything from mental focus to nutrition to each exercise. I'm currently doing the 14-Day Body Sculpting Workout and I find it challenging and very effective. You don't need to use heavy weights as you just need to focus on proper form and "zoning in" on the muscle(s) you're working. You can almost feel your body taking shape as you progress through the workouts. Also, the descriptions and images of how to perform each exercise are very well done and help you focus on exactly what you need to do to maximize your efforts. I'd highly recommend this book to any man looking to get into serious shape the right way. Many thanks to Hugo and James!
Rating: Summary: Well Done! Review: Mr. Rivera and Mr. Villepigue have written a comprehensive body building program that can benefit men of all ages. Unlike other fitness and body building programs that may be unreasonable or simply unsafe, "The Body Sculpting Bible For Men" takes a simplistic, well organized, and affective approach to creating a more fit you. Finally, a book that incoorperates the latest nutrition and exercise research with a fun and easy to follow program that actually produces fast results. The psychological and biofeedback strategies chapter is ingenious and has helped me to make a better connection between my mind and my body. With extensive information about exercise form, kinesiology, myths and mysconceptions, diet and nutrition, this book puts it all into perspective while leaving out unecessary subject matter. If you are serious about your health and fitness this is a mandatory addition to your library and it is perfect of those who are training themselves or others. Not only will this guide help to create a more beautiful you but it will give you the tools to continue making fitness a part of your life for ever!
Rating: Summary: Not Bad, but Not Good Either Review: If you want an easy way to lose weight and gain muscle- and you are just beginning... This is not a bad book. It will teach you the basics and you will make progress via "newbie gains". I think the advice and programs are well rounded and sound, but in the end, it's up to you. You need to make the effort- no book will do it for you.The book is a little misleading in one area. The 14 day body-sculpting workout is just that- 14 days, then you change the program and continue with another 14 day program. Don't think (and I didn't when I bought the book)that you will be "ripped" in 14 days because it is not going to happen. For the price, it is a good basic book with exercises that can be done with minimal equipment at home or at a gym. There are several other books out there too that are very similar- The Edge, Body for Life, etc. One thing that I found rather annoying though was the grammatical errors throughout the book. I tend to lose faith in something when I see a bunch of errors. I'm not the best writer, but I'm also not writing books and if I was, I'd hire a better editor.
Rating: Summary: ultimate in men's fitness Review: I read this post somewhere and couldn't think of a better way to say it... So I'll repost it here! Rating: Summary: The No-Nonsense Approach to a Better You Review: This book is incredible. The workouts are simple to understand and every exercise is described adequately for those of us who haven't lived in a gym for ten years. The approach towards eating well is balanced and not skewed towards an unhealthy over fortified protein body blast. There are recommendations for those who still seek nutrition from fast-food joints on what to eat as well as a good explanation of the pros and cons of most of today's popular supplements. Overall the nutrition discussion is great for a novice or the serious bodybuilder (although I would highly recommend reading Dr. Andrew Weil's Eating Well for Optimum Health along with it). There is a fair amount of the book devoted to the mind-muscle connection that many superficial bodybuilding books seem to always overlook. This information is of paramount importance if you to desire the results you want. As a former high-performance athlete I can not stress enough how important this element of training is and the authors' outline (though not in the greatest of English vernacular) of how this system works. Give it a shot and I'll guarantee you'll be sharing the information and recommending the book to all your buddies at the gym. Happy Lifting!
Rating: Summary: From a Lifter/Scientist perspective Review: This book is a good basic overview of lifting (the nutritional advice is scant and not entirely accurate). None of the exercises are innovative, and the workouts are not adequate to continue gains if you've already been training for awhile. For a beginning lifter, not too bad...most of the books honestly suck, so this is a mediocre 3 star, no better, no worse. There are better books, and once I'm out of medical school, I'll finish mine :) Strength Training Anatomy is amazing (think Netters). I returned this book after reading it, not worth keeping, or having as part of my reference library.
Rating: Summary: VERY GOOD Review: Even though it is kinda limited on specific goals (i dont think weight lifting is an exact science as of yet but its getting there), the 2 week rotation of food intake, and soul use of mostly free weights such as dumbbells and barbells makes it better to stimulate more stablizer muscles. Over all this book is The better of the ones i've seen, if you want to be a bodybuilder go with Arnold's book. Using this book should help develope overall muscle mass and fat reduction. I'll probably by their other books and check them out.
Rating: Summary: Great Unbias Book, and Supportive Authors! Review: I have searched for a good "UNBIAS" training & nutrition book, that promotes permanent good health habits rather than temporary "DIEt" schemes, and after reading this book, I was very impressed with the excellent information on the basics of a healthy & active life...Training, Nutrition, and Recovery! After reading the book and starting to develop a healthy training program for my life I came across a few questions, so i went to their website and posted on the discussion board and I got a reply from one of the authors within a few hours...the reply was exactly what I needed, and it showed to me that the authors truly support their book and work hard to provide personal feedback to their followers! So if you are looking for a good book with great information you can use to develop a tailored workout plan for yourself then this is A MUST BUY for you! Enjoy!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Pretty Good. Review: I bought this book a couple weeks ago and have since read it and started to gather my "supplies" for my training program (weights, etc...). I feel the book does a very good job of explaining the different exercises, as well as explaining the theory behind their program. There is also a good section on nutrition. Perhaps the best feature of the book is the online message board. I posted a question to the board and the next day Hugo (one of the Authors) had answered it. He is always very prompt in his answers as well as informative and polite. I would have given this book 5 stars except that this is the first weight training / exercise book I ever boought, so I don't have much to compare it to. I don't really see how it could get too much better though...
Rating: Summary: Very Nicely Done Review: I really liked how this book is organized. For a novice looking for a clear fitness path, this is an excellent book. The workout routines are broken up into two "break-in" routines followed by more advanced ones. It is written in clear, very readable language and it also addresses broader health issues. I recommend this book for someone who has a few dumbbells along with other basic exercise equipment and is looking for a coherent how-to manual that explains fitness in very understandable terms. The authors have done a very good job at making fitness accessible and the tone of the book is very realistic and enjoyable throughout.
