Summary: MY NEW BIBLE
Review: This book has changed my entire view of myself. From the anecdotes that ALL could have been written by me, to giving me a new appreciation of what God gave me and how to take care of it, I keep it by me at all times. I pack it on trips and have tried several of the recipes. Everytime I get compliments. It is great for those of us with naturally curly hair. I'm not jealous of those straight hair folks anymore. Thank you.

Summary: This book may have changed my life (I'm NOT joking)
Review: I bought this book as a joke - I thought it would be funny. As I read it, I thought it must have been written about me and my lifelong battle with my curly, frizzy hair. I really thought my problems were unique - certainly no hair stylist had every told me differently. I cannot recommend this book highly enough. I wish I could give it 10 stars!

Summary: Just amazing
Review: When you first read the advice it may sound crazy but it's not! I gave the system 3 weeks to work and my hair looked great within 2 weeks. It has now been 3 months since I last used shampoo and my hair looks better than ever. As I read the book, every question that came to me was answered in the following pages. There are tips about what to do after swimming in the pool and going to the beach. She even promises no more frizzy days. The awful tangles I fought everyday are gone and my hair is growing longer. My family has noticed the difference and at least 2 relatives and 1 friend have now gotten their own copy of the book. After 30 years of comb breaking torture, it feels great to have curly hair!

Summary: My hair looks great!!!!
Review: Since I was 13 and my straight hair turned wildly frizzy my life has been an on-going battle not to look like Bob Dylan. I just won!!

This book deals with how curly hair is different from straight hair. Instead of telling you how to straighten your curls, which is what every stylist seems to think you want to do, it tells you how to take care of your curls and make them look great.

The first week I followed the hair tips my husband said I looked fantastic. I've gotten compliments from my friends, students, and other professors.

Some complaints about this book: There are way too many "Curly Girl" confessions. This looks like and reads like filler. I would have liked more advice about cuts and styles for curly girls. It might make a good follow up book.

Summary: Where Has This Book Been All of My Life?
Review: I am a curly girl. Not too long ago, I would have been ashamed to admit that, but not anymore. Massey's book demystified the curl care process for me. Who knew that it was the shampoo making my hair do all those weird things I couldn't stand? Who knew that I wasn't alone in the Dorothy Hammill debacle or the Farrah hair horror or the feathering that wasn't so much?

If you have curly hair and you've spent more of your life than you'd care to admit hating your hair and trying to force it into doing things it doesn't want to do (and that nature never intended it to do), this book is for you.

Massey tells you how to care for your hair (NO SHAMPOO!!!); suggests ways to find a good hairdresser; and even suggests a few evening styles that don't demand you to give up your curly ways.

This book is changing my life. No more self-hatred; no more curl-icide. I'm a changed woman.

Summary: Helped me see the light
Review: I've been fighting my curls for 50+ years. Reading this book helped me to see my curls in a different light and begin to appreciate what I have. I've got a way to go before I'm completely comfortable with the whole idea. However, I feel a wonderful new freedom from styling tools and products. Love the way the author presents the topic and it's obvious she knows of what she writes. Great book.

Summary: Great advice for curly hair
Review: As anyone with naturally curly hair can tell you, managing your hair can be a trial. I have in the past undergone chemical straightening, sleeping on huge rollers, blow-drying with boar-bristled brushes, tight braiding and ponytails, product overkill and finally, a resignation to my unruly locks. The trouble is, the majority of hairstylists don't truly understand the nature of curly hair and rarely can give very good advice on products, care and treatment. Curly hair is too often treated as simply uncooperative (or defective) straight hair, which it isn't. This book helps fill the void. Although I felt I was getting "close" to figuring out the best regimen for my hair, this book clued me in to the best way to care for my hair and scalp. Although I was skeptical about giving up shampoo or even leave-in conditioners, after three months of shunning shampoo, brushes and towel turbans, my hair looks better than it ever has in my life, and is easier to maintain now that I'm not fighting my hair's natural inclinations. I should also mention that my hair is not evenly curly, but that I have three different textures/ levels of curl covering my head. My hair looks much more "unified" now.

The author doesn't name any specific products but gives the reader guidance in choosing the best conditioners and gels for their hair, as well as a whole section on homemade hair treatments for eliminating buildup, deep conditioning and perking up tired locks.

If you have naturally curly or kinky hair and are sick of abusing your hair with heat and chemicals, or have become a hair product junkie in search of that "magic elixir", or are just ready to let go and go natural, give this book a try and see how much easier caring for your "goddess hair" can be!

Summary: Great Information
Review: It has only been in my late 40's that I'm discovering how to take care of my naturally curly hair. Years of growing up has conditioned me to try to straighten my hair and how unhealthy it had become from this process. This book has helped to free me from that programming and to really understand my hair and to love having it. Get this book, it is a must!

Summary: Curl Power!
Review: Great book full of great advice for all curl-heads. If all other books, articles and tips have left your hair needs unsatisfied, then this book is a must have. Instead of resorting to product placement and prom style hairdos, Curly Girl looks at the whole curl of the girl, covering every wave and corkscrew style, and with sections specifically devoted to African-American and children's hair. Define your curl, learn the proper cleaning and styling routine, know what to look for and what to avoid in hair products and try home remedies to restore shine, health and happiness in your tresses. The day I got this book, I followed author Lorraine Massey's techniques and saw a visible difference in my hair. In addition, the book is filled with wonderful testimonials, anecdotes and a history of curly hair. Fun and effective, the best curl book on the market.

Summary: Must Have book for curly heads
Review: I loved this book and learned to love my curls from this book. Her techniques for managing curly hair are easy and work. Lorraine Massey coowner of the spa and salon in trendy Manhattan called " Devachan", gives all natural tips and techniques to deal with curly hair and gives insight on what kind of curly hair one has. Since I live in New York I am eager to go to her Salon regulary for haircuts. Lorranie has a special philosophy for treating curly hair of not shampooing it because hair is not skin and we need to treat our scalp like our skin cleanse it once a week and exfiolate it once a week and moistrize. Our hair is made of keratin , fiber and needs to be hydrated with conditioner everyday it makes so much sense and I've followed it personally and my hair looks gorgeous I get compliments all the time and am so greatful for buying this book!
I urge anyone who has battled their curls to purchase this book it was the best 10 bucks I ever spent!
