Rating: Summary: Profound, from the heart, and tremendously beneficial Review: This book helps the reader to gently, but meaningfully explore her or his shadow side - a somewhat daunting prospect to many, including me. But the book so wonderfully shows the way, that all reluctance and resistance is cast aside as Debbie so expertly leads the way to meaningful self-exploration. Debbie's personal integrity, loving heart and passion to assist and aid others comes through loudly and clearly. This is a book that made a profound difference in my life. If someone sincerely wants to do some significant personal growth work, this book is a tremendous tool to take you there.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Review: This is an excellent book, well written and speaking with the voice of Ford's experience. Those who truly wants to understand themselves, how they can really grow and expand their awareness, will benefit from reading this book and chewing on the insights it will inspire. Wish this book had been around when I was teaching metaphysics years ago. The student can always benefit from the wisdom of experience.
Rating: Summary: Life Changer Review: This is a real life changer. For the first time, it all became clear that I was looking at life in the wrong light. Once I started to own parts of myself that I had buried deep inside of me.
Rating: Summary: WOW! What a book! Review: If I could, I would give this 10 stars! This book has single-handedly opened my eyes to what has been holding me back for so many years. If my life has not been a success (according to me, that is) it is because I do not really believe that I deserve to be a success. It is my "shadow beliefs" that prevent me from achieving the type of life that I (and everyone else) deserves to have. The author explains her concepts in a very forthright and understandable manner, using concrete examples from her own life and other people's lives. Then after each chapter, she gives the reader an exercise so they can put the concepts into practice. That is what bothers me about many self-help books. They explain the concepts, but do not give you any concrete way of putting them into practice. What good are the concepts to you if you don't know how to use them in your everyday life? Ms. Ford not only tells you the concepts, but she also tells you how to use them in your own life. I had many "lightbulb" moments while reading this book, and one example actually made me sob because it hit so close to home. I heartily recommend this book if you want to discover how your shadow beliefs have been holding you back.
Rating: Summary: Finally someone who faces reality and smiles! Review: As someone who has suffered from obsessive-compulsive disorder for three years I know firsthand how difficult it can be to confront one's 'shadow' side. While the journey back to my 'self' has been arduous and difficult, the journey was worth it. This is because only by facing one's true 'shadows' can one not only find the 'light', but *appreciate* it.I believe that everyone should read this book. I almost mean that literally. Too often people feel that it is somehow 'inappropriate' to explore the darker sides of their personality. They are taught this by a society of 100's of years which has said this is somehow 'bad' or 'evil'. It is not. One learns far more from ones mistakes or human frailties than one could ever learn from an easy or lucky success. I will stop here for I feel that I'm gushing however this book's potential influence should not be underestimated.
Rating: Summary: This book is a mindblower! Review: I never would have believed that hidden within my darkest qualities and most painful emotions lies the key to my true magnificence. I have much more energy now that I am no longer at war with my "negative" emotions like jealousy, greed and pettiness. What freedom there is in learning to love, respect and listen to each and every aspect of myself. The exercises given in the book put my emotional well being back in my hands. I am now no longer pulled by the chain of my emotional reactions to other people. Thank you Debbie Ford for helping me to see myself as whole, and for opening my heart to greater self love.

Rating: Summary: What You See Is Who You Are Review: I saw Debbie Ford speak at the "Whole Life Expo" in Baltimore and she made good sense so I bought her book and have thoroughly enjoyed it. This book goes into great detail about how we repress our shadow side and it keeps leaking out if we do not come to accept it and use it to work for us instead of against us. The excercises are very helpful and go a long way towards helping us integrate ourselves. Ms. Ford has been an associate of Deepak Chopra for many years and is now blazing a trail of her own. This book is a valuable resource. Another great book that helps you to integrate your light and shadow sides is "12 Secrets for Manifesting Your Vision, Inspiration and Purpose" by Richard Bellamy, who I also saw speak in Baltimore. It introduces an excercise (The Collapse Process) that helps you to go into deeper appreciation of "self as other" and clear out your past so we can be "Present Now" with our "integrative self" and move to the future with heartfelt action. I also recommend "Count your Blesings" by John Demartini.
Rating: Summary: There Lies A Solid Gold Treasure... Review: Debbie Ford's The Dark Side of The Light Chasers has some very valuable ideas. I found Debbie's writing to be inspiring in looking at all aspects of myself, including the ones that I thought I needed to hide from others, those being the "dark shadows." By acknowledging or "owning" these preceived unacceptable aspects of myself I became more aware of my true self. In other words, I can act appropriately and not react inappropriately to situation that come up in my life. The concept of "projection" where you recognize a quality in another person as being a trait that you have yourself is an interesating one I had not heard of before reading this book. This concept has enabled me to see my own potential for greatness. I also appreciated the sense that Debbie convened of how in each of us lies a masked solid gold treasure that can be revealed thru awareness. Another book I highly recommend reading is called 'WORKING ON YOURSELF DOESN'T WORK" by Ariel and Shya Kane. The Kanes present a guide to personal transformation, where becoming aware of yourself in a non judgmental way enables lasting transformation to happen, where your life becomes magnificent.
