Summary: Intelligent, Talented Kevyn Aucoin
Review: If only I could get him to do my makeup!

Kevyn Aucoin once again proves himself. Not only are his makeovers phenomenal, his accompanying writings are fascinating. This is a man with an appreciation for the beauty of women - women of all shapes and sizes. His subjects are not always supermodels. Next to pictures of Christy Turlington and Gwenyth Paltrow are pictures of everday women - women of age, color, and size.

Some of the pictures do look a little airbrushed - but the effect is still phenomenal. You will not believe your eyes - this man can work magic.

Women looking to learn how to apply makeup should buy Kevyn's book, "Making Faces" before this one. This is a more advanced book, discussing facial shapes in depth and requiring a greater knowledge of products and colors.

Women with an appreciation for cinema of the 30s, classic fashion designers will love Kevyn's transformations. The most entertaining part of the book is the last few pages, where Kevyn experiments with eggplant-black foundation, glitter lipgloss, blue lipstick and crimson eyeshadow.

This book will make you feel beautiful by just sitting and reading it. Kevyn is my hero!

Summary: Learn some make-up tricks from a true magician!
Review: Kevyn has done it again. This is his newest book, following Making Faces, which was a huge success. Kevyn offers very useful tips for make-up application, choosing colors, and finding your own style. In his books, he gives make-overs to celebrities, and normal folks as well. His celebrity makeovers are amazing- in this book, he transforms Martha Stewart to Veronica Lake! You will be amazed and entertained by these makeovers, even if you don't need the make-up tips (but who doesn't need to learn from the best! ). This is a great book to leave on your coffee table for guests to flip through. It's fun to try and guess who the celebrity is (Gwyneth Paltrow as James Dean? ). This is a great gift for anyone who's into make-up, fashion, or celebrities. Check it out!

Summary: The Art of Make-up
Review: I agree with many of the other reviewers here who said that Kevin Aucoin is a "magician". He is truly an amazing artist and it is so nice to be able to get a glimpse of his world through this book.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Exceptional, from both artistic and "how-to" perspectives
Review: If you've ever looked at fashion magazines and wondered what makeup techniques went into creating the look, "Face Forward" may give you all the answers you need. Not only did Kevyn Aucoin do all the makeup in this book, but he also wrote it and contributed to the photography, art direction and design. He is a genius. Period.

Outside of the introductory chapters, the book is divided into five main parts: 1) "Behind Beauty," where Kevyn describes how he treats the face to bring out a wide range of attributes; 2) "Face to Face," which consists of in-depth photography and illustrations of the steps involved with creating beautiful looks; 3) "Dimensions," where Kevyn explores the "classic personifications of beauty" by making up actresses and models to look like stars of the past; and 4) & 5) forward-looking concepts of makeup techniques and the future of beauty, also using the faces of actresses (and even his mom).

I think it's great that someone as talented as Kevyn can be so generous in explaining his craft, but even if you're not into that, "Face Forward" holds up fantastically on its merits as an art/photography book: the resemblance of the current stars to the past ones is incredible (e.g., Winona Ryder as Elizabeth Taylor).

This book may be a little advanced for makeup artists who are just starting out, but hey, makeup is art, and art is about ideas, so it's definitely worth checking out. For anyone who is just plain interested in fashion and style, "Face Forward" will be intriguing, even if only for the skill exhibited in transforming one famous face into another. It's a masterpiece.

Summary: Kevyn The "magician" Aucoin
Review: There could be so much I can say about this simply fantastic collection of transformations of the stars. I just recieved the book last night as a gift. I already consider it one of my best "reads". What I like about the book the best, has to be the makeovers of Tina Turner & Celine Dion. They are not what we would normally expect either woman to look like.

The photography is amazing in the book, revealing each model's 2nd side. There are even 3rd sides to some people. I wish there were more everyday person makeovers shown in the book, but Kevyn has reserved the place for the stars. I've tried to do makeovers on different people, but the results weren't satisfying as looking at these pictures. Personally, I'd rather look at the books than do actual transformations.

I wish there was a smaller version (paperback) of this book, to give to friends. I highly recommend it to anyone who appreciates the time & talent one can have for such a career. Bet you can't wait til Kevyn puts another book out! It would be great "IF" he does. Until then, we'll enjoy his "Face forward".

Summary: Kevyn is a brilliant artist!
Review: This is the second time I have purchased a book by Kevyn Aucoin. I also purchased (and reviewed "Making Faces" which I loved) and I absolutely LOVE him. He is without a doubt the most talented make-up artist in the world. He is amazingly talented and takes make-up to a higher level. It is true art that this man creates. I am astonished and awed every time I see his work. There is so many wonderful and creative ideas that are certainly within the reach of the average woman. BUT, there is also that wonderful element of Fantasy that "Face Forward" brings to the table. He is brilliant and I just love his work. It's a wonderful resource and a fabulous coffee-table book. I really think you'll love it.

Summary: Eye Candy!
Review: For those of us who love makeup, this is fun and inspires one to try something different! I wish I had time, patience, and the vision of Kevin Aucoin to do some of these transformations, even if just for fun. Along with demonstrating various "looks," he takes (mostly) famous faces and transforms them into others with makeup--for example, he turns Martha Stewart (!) into Veronica Lake, Amber Valetta becomes Clark Gable AND Carole Lombard, and Gina Gershon morphs into Sophia Loren.
There are a few black women and fewer Asians, so if you are looking for a lot of diversity in this book, you may be disappointed.
Still, I love this book, even though I don't actually wear as much makeup as is shown here. Some of never grow out of playing dress-up!
Rest in peace, dear Kevin. You are missed.

Summary: A Star Is Born!
Review: Definately the pinnacle of Kevyn's star-studded career this book is DRIPPING in celebrities from cover to cover! Each super star poses as Kevyn's canvass and boy does he go wild! Highly creative, highly impressive, highly glamorous! The only problem of course being that you would need the face of a celebrity and the talent of Kevyn to pull off most of the looks! But oh well Kevyn showed his own star power in this book before his tragic and too-soon death. He will DEFINATELY be missed by film and fashion elite and by the millions of fans and acolytes he acquired!
