Summary: Overeating has more to do with the heart than food.
Review: This book is for anyone who has struggled with an eating disorder, whether it is overeating or anorexia or bulemia. Most of us who have struggled with the issue of weight and food have come to realize that we know all the "right" diet answers and it hasn't changed anything because the real issue isn't food it's a problem of the heart. Food has become our first love, we obsess over it, we try to tame it, when we are on a diet it becomes all we think about! In her book "The Weigh Down Diet" Gwenn does a terrific job of helping the reader to change their focus and their hearts and their lives. It is filled with testimonials from men and women who have overcome a variety of disorders and have found peace.

Summary: proof is in the pudding
Review: Common sense can be so hard to find sometimes. This book is full of it. I've lost 20+ pounds and the rest will be gone in a few more weeks, like leaves falling off a tree. Gwen has been used by God in a wonderful way. He is so good!

Summary: The diet and beyound
Review: I am a weight loss guide at the Mining Co. The most interesting aspect of this book for me is the faith healing (and I equal healthy weight management and healing). I have written two articles on the 'Weight Down' topic offering my hypothesis why this diet works (I'm a Ph.D. in physiology).

As I am trying to make my weight loss program as interactive as possible, I would be greatly appreciative of any comments.

Summary: Nope, It's Not for Everyone...
Review: After reading through all of the other comments that readers have entered regarding this book, I felt compelled to comment as well. I smirked as I read what one person had said, "it's not for a thinking person..." A person who is trying to solve their wieght problem (or any other life problem for that matter) on their own and who denies the exist of God and his mighty power, will not find this book for them. I think Gwen would agree that she has used some verses "out of context" to "prove" a point. HOWEVER, these verses are NOT contrary to other scriptural principles. The verses she uses may have been selected from a Bible story or passage that was not specifically referring to her topic--but they were not contrary to Biblical principles. The comments about Twinkies crack me up. Gwen doesn't suggest that you only eat Twinkies. She says that you CAN eat Twinkies. I think she would agree that a diet of junk food only is not right. This book is definitely not for everyone and certainly not for someone who is not willing to allow God to work in their lives. God has used this book to change my life and many lives around me. More than just my eating habits have changed... Nope, this book isn't for you if you don't want GOD to work in your life...

Summary: Fantastic
Review: It has been WONDERFUL, I have lost almost 45 pounds and have been able to keep it off, I started a year ago November 1997, and have not gained any back except for 3 pounds in April when my daughter was in the hospital. It has been so great to eat real food and not count calories or exercise, I had tried both and always gained back more than I lost. Even on occassions when I do over eat, there is no way that I could eat the amount that I use to and if I do overeat, I just wait for my stomach to growl before I eat again. And during Christmas I have been able to eat and stop because I do not feel deprived because I eat what I want when I want and it feels great! However you have to be able to put your fork down, if you have a problem that you are feeding with food, you have to fix your problem or deal with your problem in another manner, its just like anything else you have to be ready to make the decision that your going to deal with your problems if your an emotional eater and be willing to take the time to stop and learn when you are truly full and hungry. My Mom has also lost 35 pounds and Dad has lost 15 or so.

Summary: Common sense approach, but sometimes hard to follow.
Review: This book offers the only common sense solution anyone needs to know about weight loss. It is not a diet, but a solution to a problem. The common sense is that is shows us how we used to eat when we were thin and healthy, and helps us to re-establish this process. It has nothing to do with being a "thinking person"'s program -- of course,we must think in order to follow it. But the main idea is that thin eating should come as naturally as breathing, and thus we shouldn't have to think so much about it. There is a much smaller focus on food, and more of a focus on God and self-awareness. Yes, go ahead and eat whatever you want when your stomach growls. Pretty soon you won't crave only the Twinkies and chocolate, but will moderate your own healthy eating habits by listening to what your body wants. USE this book!! Highlight parts that speak to you, and keep it handy.

Summary: finally
Review: Finally something that works!! And the weight stays off. Weight loss will become secondary to the other changes that will occur in your life!

Summary: This is the only thing that has worked for me!
Review: I wrote a review a few months ago. I am back again to say that this is the only 'diet' (it's not really a diet) that has worked for me! I've now lost 20 lb. in the first 12-week session of the WD Workshop! You should call the 1-800 number and find a workshop in your area a.s.a.p. and get started on this if you are serious about losing weight. The losing weight is just a side effect of what happens when you start turning to God for everything. My life is so much better now!

Summary: It works
Review: Gwen Shamblin's Weigh Down Diet works if you work the program she describes. She just asks us to fall in love with the one true God. It is that simple. Her book will also help those who are seeking to overcome multiple addictions.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: The non-diet program
Review: This is a simple means of developing self-control as a habit, as well as cultivating a relationship with God to meet all the needs we have met previously by indulging in various addictions. It is very simple and can be summed up in one sentence: "Eat when you're hungry and stop when you're full." It is so simple; but the rest of the book is devoted to additional examples, and the "hows" and "whys" that can help us while we're learning what we need to learn.
