Rating: Summary: Help from GOD Review: I have read the book and think that it is a great book to help you loose weight, if you include prayer for understanding and help. I had struggled for 4 years with my weight problem. I was in the Marine Corps and that made my weight problem worse with the standards they upheld. I found myself starving my body more and more when it was time for weigh-in. I was very unhappy. I did everything. Abstain from meat, laxatives, fasting. . but the weight just came back. Every time I failed, I went crying back to GOD for help. I had purchased the book along with many others that I had purchased and had not read but had just added it to my library. One day while walking around my room, my eyes caught the book just sitting on the shelf(brand-new)!! I was not going to read it because I was too through with diets and dieting. I read the book with the Holy Spirit so that I could have complete understanding,I wanted to make sure I completed the book also. . . and have since never had a problem. Glory goes to GOD on high!!! The LORD stills heals, HE will use whatever method is available as long as it does not go against HIS Word!!!! If GOD did it for me, HE definately can do it for you. If the book uses scripture to help you loose weight, them you must believe on your part, it will take faith in what is being said for GOD to use the book to help you. JESUS blood still works!!!

Rating: Summary: WHAT I HAVE BEEN PRAYING FOR -FOR YEARS/AUSOME Review: FROM A NEW READER IN TEXAS, I HAVE BEEN PRAYING ABOUT LOSING WEIGHT FOR YEARS IN A WAY WHICH IS NOT SO UNCOMFORTABLE. THIS BOOK IS GOD SENT. I AM STILL READING AND ABSORBING (I AM NOT A VERY FAST READER) AND UNDERSTANDING THE WEIGH DOWN BOOK. MY RELATIONSHIP WITH CHRIST IS GROWING, MY PRAYER TIME IS IMPROVING, MY OVERALL ATTITUDE ABOUT LOSING WEIGHT IS NOT AS IMPORTANT AS HAVING THAT CLOSENESS WITH OUR SAVIOR. EVEN MY DAILY WORK FOR THE LORD IS DIFFERENT. AMAZING HOW GWEN'S WRITING IS GLORIFYING GOD. MY WEIGHT LOST HAVE NOT BEGAN, I'M LEARNING MYSELF ANEW. LEARNING TO WEAN MYSELF OF YEARS AND YEARS OF WORLDLY WAY OF DIETING (I DID NOT LIKE ANY OF THEM). LORD I THANK YOU FOR THE WISDOM OF THIS BOOK AND THE WAY GWEN INVITED EVEN THE NON-BELIEVERS TO READ.
Rating: Summary: BUY THIS BOOK!!! Review: I have been enjoying the food I love for a year now thanks to Gwen Shamblin and I've lost 35 pounds doing it. This book has changed my life and so many others that I know. It's very freeing to eat as God intended. God didn't put the foods we love on this earth to torture us, but for our enjoyment. It's not WHAT you eat, but HOW MUCH you eat. You do not starve yourself on this program, you eat until you are truly "satifsfied", not stuffed. If you want to gain control of your weight, be freed from yo-yo dieting, enjoy the foods you love and gain a deeper relationship with God, then buy this book. It's TOTALLY freeing and it really does work!!!
Rating: Summary: The book that has changed my entire life. Review: I bought this book February 22, 1999 and read it in one day and night. Some of what Gwen says, I don't agree with but overall... it's changed my life. I laughed and cried throughout the book and when I was done... I realized I was truly delivered from binge eating. I prayed and cried and came away with a loving, understanding of God and my relationship with Him. I have lost 39 pounds since February 22, which is only 3 months. But the weight loss is just a symtom of a larger thing... a relationship with God.
Rating: Summary: Good "self talk"; fallible nutritional information Review: If you are looking for good reasons to talk yourself out of eating whenever you "feel" like it, you'll find a lot of good ammunition. Some of the nutritional advice is just plain wrong, but the real issue is to get in tune with what our physical needs are and how our mental and spiritual hunger often cloud the "real" sensations and solutions of hunger. The author is very clever at getting to the core of loosing weight: self control. She does make using our "will power" a positive virtue rather than the agonizing pain that most of us suffer from trying to implement our self discipline. This attitude alone holds much value.
Rating: Summary: This book was inspiring and motivational. Review: I read this book twice this weekend and could not put it down. I haven't had a Bible out in years and it took me 2 days to find one. (finally found one!) I found this book to be extremely motivational coupled with common sence. Thoroughly delightful.
Rating: Summary: This book has opened my eyes to a mistake i was making. Review: I did learn some important truths from Gwen's teachings that I still try to keep in mind even more so now, than after I immediately read the book. I would say that the most important thing I walked away with after reading the book is that I was turning to eating the way I should have been turning to God. For instance, if I had a bad day I wanted to go out to eat or get a special treat to make me feel better. But it didn't work. Being over weight I just felt guilty because I had devoured a ton of "sinful" food that was now going to sit on my hips. How was that a benefit to me after having a bad day? It wasn't. It wasn't bad that i went out to eat or had treat, it was wrong that I was turning to food to "cure" my blues. GOD is the only ONE who truly understands my feelings and emotions and therefore the only ONE who could truly console me as my soul desired. I had placed my faith in HIM to be my only hope for eternal salvation but had forgotten and neglected to let HIM be my daily salvation from this fallen world and the hurts that go along with life. Now when I'm sitting back at the table and realize that I'm starting to over eat, I can usually see that it correlates with a spiritual need more than a physical need, old habits can be hard to break and they sneak up on you too!Nutritionally speaking though, I personally disagree with the book. I think a proper diet and moderate exercise are important in keeping my body working optimally so that i can enjoy this life that God has so graciously given to me to live out. :) I can't be guaranteed that I will live a long life but if I do I want to have a good chance of being able to be active with people still.
