Rating: Summary: Absolutely a MUST have for anyone - Martial artist or NOT! Review: I picked this book up from the local bookstore after sustaining a severe injury to my knee. I previously had not taken any real formal martial arts training or done any reading on the subject, however I always liked all of the funky stuff that these guys like Jackie Chan have done on the big screen. Anyways, while recovering I studied this book intensely and within the week I was so inspired to start training with what I had learned that I tossed the crutches aside and began walking. Well, pretty soon I was working to perfection all of the techniques and skills that I had learned plus accumulated several other martial arts books on other styles and I even started training like Bruce Lee!To this day I wake up at 5:00 am every morning and work on flexiblity and abdominals before I go to school and I feel great! I recently purchased a punching bag to work on applying power to all my techniques as well! In closing I would say that by reading this book it started a whole revolution in my life, and changed the way that I look at any situation in life. So I can only hope that it does for everyone else what it did for me.
Rating: Summary: Mind-blowing, Essential , Everlasting Review: This book is a must for any Martial Artist concerned with the advancement of their martial abilities. The Book will not only provide you with infinite motiviation and clarified ideas but it will change your whole idea of martial arts and how you percieve an art(in a good way). This book provides endless enjoyment and reinforces your mental side of your art with your Physical. I found that before i bought this book i only practised my art so i could be a better fighter, -as bruce was and will be remembered- but after i read it i wanted to practise my art for my love of it.The book thought me the good things about my art aswell as the weak things which is extremley important. I was anything but good before i incorperated this book into my training, however now my sucess in everything from Aerobic and Anaerobic fitness to Willpower has flourished. Bruce Lee was an amazing person with great abilites and although his flaws are never exposed he did have them {e.g he had terrible nutrition} the same as any other Human.People have gone to great lengths to portray this MAN as a MYTH.However the difference between Bruce Lee and a great deal of other people is that Bruce always strove to improve himself and make himself a better person. All the evidence is in his book.
Rating: Summary: Like the book, but don't expect instant results. Review: Well, first this is a good book. I recomend it to a serious martial artist. If you are just looking for a way to beat some one up then don't read this it is mostly for those who are already doing some kind of martial art, and compliments your skills.
Rating: Summary: Great helping guide Review: This book is a great guide for marial artists to learn how to simplify techniques. As a martial artist myself, I have found in the book a way, a filosophical, on how to make a simple short technique powerful and useful. Of course, the book wasn't meant to teach, but rather to improve one's ability. The book helps, but you have to be active in a martial art system with a trained professional because the book alone is not enough. With the knowledge that brings the book, it is necesary the practice. The book grabs the whole filosophy of matial arts and describes it in a way to make you think about the technique, the form, and the results, to the point of making it an art. The book is a must have.
Rating: Summary: Some great words from the master himself Review: This book is very informative in the art of Jeet Kune Do. This should be required to read for any Bruce Lee fan. It shows different techniques and quotes from Bruce. I love this book!!!
Rating: Summary: Bruce Lee is the master. Review: Read this book. It rules. Bruce Lee was so strong in real life, that he could do one-handed pushups on just 2 fingers. He also stressed kicking low, below the belt. In some of his fighting books, he made before them before he started thinking about the philosophy of Jeet Kune Do, so they might show him kicking high. If you want to learn Jeet Kune Do you shouldn't just read some books and expect to be a power house fighter all of a sudden. To become a powerhouse fighter you need to do thousands of pushups and cruches and push your self to your maximum physical limit. You can never become a excellent fighter by just being good at fighting. You have to be in exellent shape too. That is another thing Bruce stressed was being in maximum physical condition. If you can't do 50 pushups straight, then you can't be as fast and powerful as you would like to be. Physical condition is almost as important as fighting skill it self.
Rating: Summary: Deep, intelligent, interesting Review: Even though this book is very philosophical, if you're reading ToJKD just to learn the mystical arts of butt-kicking, you'll still come away with a strong education. Lee's art is about truly understanding fighting, not about the superficial stuff that works when your opponent is standing still. He is obviously very passionate; the book is an attempt to convey how he thinks about the Art. His passion is in fighting itself; he goes through systems without particular preference, searching through the useless parts to find the things he can learn from. In fact, Lee agonized about whether or not he should write this book, since he was afraid that people would think JKD is some formal system instead of a way of thinking. Sadly, this was supposed to be a seven-volume masterpiece where he dissects all the nuances of fighting, but his early death left only enough material for this single book. Still, this perhaps was the best compromise with Lee's wishes, since ToJKD contains the fundamental kernel of his thinking.
Rating: Summary: THE book for serious martial artists Review: If you've practiced the martial arts for a few years, this is the book you need to improve. It lays down fundamental principals which EVERY TRUE MARTIAL ARTIST MUST FOLLOW. Not for undisciplined posers like GRACIE JIU JUTSU fanatics.
Rating: Summary: A Must for Any Martial Artist Review: Lee's Tao of Jeet Kun Do is the martial artists "bible". It takes all the physical and mental aspects of Jun Fan Jeet Kun Do, and glues them together with the fighting philosophy that was Bruce Lee. Lee touches on the most critical points of combat. This book helps "structure" a martial artists mind, to be prepared completely; not to just know movements, or punches or kicks. Bravo Bruce Lee, for taking martial arts out of the box that has defined it merely as kicks and punches. Excellent book.
Rating: Summary: NOT AS GOOD AS IT LOOKS LIKE Review: I don't know what's the big problem me or the books isn't really that good. I've spent 3 months inside a hospital after I was attacked by GRACIE JIU JITSU students in my own school. After I have recovered myself I decided to learn Martial Arts and I thought - What would be better than learning JKD, Lee's Art -. I practiced by 7 months and then those guys wanted to fight with me again. I got pretty hurt again. I got so angry and upset that I sold this BOOKS (and 4 others LEE'S FIGHTING METHOD plus CHINESE GUNG FU). I realized that these things of Martial Arts are just cheap talk specially when talking about LEE !!!
