Rating: Summary: Photos say it all! Review: Last year in the middle of winter, I went to my local discount store. A very heavy set, hairy man in flip flops walked in wearing a tank top and see through white mesh shorts. A small pair of bikini underwear completed his attire. He gathered alot of glances none of which were admiring! That is what not to wear! Most of us know not to wear that type of outfit if we want to look good, but many of us still need some advice on what looks best for our body type. Hence the need for Trinny Woodall and Susannah Constantine's book " What Not To Wear". This is a very visual book. Not a lot of text. But enough to explain why one look is good and another look not good. But in a few photos the model looked better in the WORST outfit and not as good in the BEST outfit. And the models (the authors) also tend to make glum faces in the WORST photos and cheerful faces in the BEST photos. The authors cover BEST and WORST using a variety of outfits for breasts, butt, neck, waist, legs, tummy, calves and more. With these two its not learn to appreciate your least favorite features its all about how to hide it. A directory at the back of the book gives addresses for where to shop. Overall a light look at what to wear to hide your problem features.
Rating: Summary: Simple to follow, easy to do Review: LOVED IT, LOVED IT, LOVED IT! Through the cunning use of self-depricating humor, sass, and sound advice, these two ladies have made fashion a no-brainer. It goes beyond that new-age "learn to love the hand you've been delt" to what women really think: How can I fake it and get away with it? It's a great resource for being honest with your closet and a must have when getting ready for shopping. Definitely worth the read.
Rating: Summary: A Must For Any Woman's Book Shelf Review: I purchased this book not knowing what to think and then finished reading it in one night! Very light hearted read with excellent advice! The added humor was a wonderful treat. Hey, these ladies told you the truth without hurting your feelings. It was really refreshing not having someone tell you what was in when it really wasn't. They truely provide basic fashion sense that can be implemented into what ever the current styles or trends are. Now it's off to restructing my closet! How about yours?
Rating: Summary: Big boobs no boobs big arms big butt Review: Yes we have been fascinated by what Trinny Woodall & Susannah Constantine can do with "what not to wear." After watching the TV program we are ready to graduate to the book, one that we can carry with us or mark what to look for. The nice thing about this book is it applies common sense. If you already know this than it is nice to have a book confirm it; If not then you have something to resell with. My only disappointment was that they only tackle women in the book. But I can live with that. Now everywhere I go I say "ah ha you did not read the book." I figure I will be slapped one day. The book its self is well designed with plenty of photographs between the explanations and of quality paper. There are ten sections on what to do for short comings or long comings for that matter. One does not have to have these attributes to appreciate them and adapt for what not to wear.
Rating: Summary: Don't listen to them...it's the best!!! Review: They are the best...this book is the best...if everyone had this book, I think they'd all look and feel much better!! Watch the show as well, if you haven't!
Rating: Summary: Don't waste your time or money Review: I borrowed this book for free from the bookstore where I work. If I hadn't gotten it free, I would have been back the next day demanding a refund. This book is terrible. The layout of the book has each chapter covering a different physical flaw and the different types of clothes you should and should not wear to cover these flaws. That is fine, however, these two women are trying to convince you that between them, they each have all these flaws with their own bodies, as they are using themselves as models. What irritates me is that in one chapter, for example, you have the brunette trying to cover a "big butt" (yeah right, she's thin as a rail and has a flat butt), and she supposidly should NOT wear an A-line skirt. Flip forward a few pages, and there she is again, with a different flaw that supposidly would be best covered WITH an A-line skirt. You would think they would have the sense to 1. use models that actually possess these flaws (granted, they themselves do have some, but not all these flaws) and 2. be able to iron out the inconsistencies in their clothing recommendations, especially when talking about the same model. Bottem line: Don't waste your money.
Rating: Summary: good book for the "fashion-clueless" Review: I crack up watching "What Not to Wear" and am enjoying the book of the same title. These ladies are hilarious and really know what they are talking about. I saw the ladies on "So Graham Norton" and Susannah was commenting on the American version of the show. She said they couldn't do the mirror room segment in America because no one would fit in it! Yikes! Has she looked in a mirror lately? She isn't exactly thin herself. I suppose it is their public persona to be witchy. I wonder how she'd feel if someone said the Brits could all use some Crest whitening strips! Get this book if you need help in deciding what best suits your body type. The right clothes can really make one feel better about him or herself.
Rating: Summary: Disappointing! Review: Everything in this book was common sense, i.e. Don't wear what looks ugly on you! I love the show "What Not to Wear" and expected a lot more from this book then obvious advise like (paraphrasing) "if you have a great set of boobs, show them off". Also, Trinny and Robin were the models for all the dos and don'ts. They both have super figures, so for most of the don'ts they had to try and exaggerate their "flaws". Trinny would slouch to exaggerate her small chest and Robin would puff-out out her tummy to look larger around the middle. Give me a break! These two really don't have the body flaws that so many real women have to deal with when trying to find cloths that fit and flatter. Save your money and don't buy this book. Instead, buy yourself some good fitting undergarments. Good looks always start with a good foundation!
Rating: Summary: good for the economy Review: Terrific, beautifully illustrated companion to the BBC television series seen here on BBC America. (Not to be confused with the awful American adaptation on TLC.) WARNING - this book will send your wife out shopping the weekend after the book arrives, guaranteed. So it's good for the economy. The ladies are particularly adept at styling around shape. Hope they'll do a male version next. There's got to be something else out there other than wearing black and trousers with expand-a-belt elastic waistbands.
Rating: Summary: Good, but not great Review: I love WNTW on BBC America (the TLC version is a pale copy). This book offers up Trinny and Susannah's no holds barred advise. My only complaint with it is that they didn't use models other then themselves to illustrate the flaws which need to be covered. For example, they used Trinny, who weighs maybe 100 pounds, as the model for how to camouflage a big butt. I think it would have more effective had they used real women, perhaps some of the women who had appeared on their program.
