Summary: If you love the show, here are the rules!
Review: I love the show on BBC America. This is the reason I got the book. It's nice to have a reference for the tips they give since I can't seem to remember them all. The pictures really help visualize the worst vs the best look.

A plus that I found helpful is that they list multiple options to correct problems. Who wants to feel like they only can wear one type of clothing!?!?! Another great feature is the list of shops to find the clothes you want. Fab idea!!! Lastly, the book is thin enough to tuck away and take with you to the stores.

The reason I didn't give this a five is albeit, some picky things. First, patterns weren't realy discussed at length. It would have been nice if they addressed things like stipes (horizontal & vertical), plaids, geometrics, paisley, etc. Also they could have grouped the worsts together to show how to cover multiple issues. Like a big butt and a big bust. Instead they are in individualized sections. Plus color combinations would have been helpful. They have an eye for colors that I wouldn't necessarily think to put together.

Summary: What Not to Bother With
Review: I really enjoy both the US and UK versions of this show, but I found this book really disappointing. Only one or two options are offered for each body part, and no attention is given to color, total body proportion, age, or lifestyle. All photos are of the authors, who are quite slim, so no advice is given to heavier women. The most confusing advice in the whole book is that for women with big bottoms and saddle-bags: a-line skirts are recommended for saddle bags but not big bottoms. Then the reverse advice is given for pencil skirts. Don't women who have one problem often have both? What am I supposed to do, sew the front of an a-line to the back of a pencil? Guess what? Even the photographs on both pages are of the same member of the pair...so what should she wear? No answers in this book.

Summary: A *mixed bag* of info
Review: I read this one at a book store because I wanted to buy it after hearing a radio interview by the authors. And *read* is really a stretch... Based on the interview the author's had alot of valuable things to say...

I looked at the sample pages, the book is much more like the picture samples than the text samples. Perhaps a book about dressing *is* best done with examples but I am the kind of person who needs at least an equal amount of text example. I need to read about what I am seeing, as well as seeing it.

The style is pretty conversational... or frank even. Not everyone who wants to hide flaws will warm up to the whole *big butt* / *no boobs* thing... I'm sure it will appeal to their target audience and frankly... I think we need to relax about every flaw we have...if we can laugh a bit about ourselves we will be happier over all... So I think there is a good side and humor to their style, to relax basicly..your saddlebags aren't the end of the world and can be covered with the right skirt.

Ultimately, I think the authors have a great deal more to say and I wish they said it. A book that relies so heavily on pictures as an explanation, won't be my first choice. The pictures are good, but I'm afraid that some weren't as clearly no-nos as they had hoped...

The other issue is that what one woman might call a saddle bag another might call a bit of puffiness... Clearly some of the fashion cover-up issues while important to these woman...weren't dramatic. Perhaps a few examples of...say a mountain AND a mole hill would have helped as opposed to just the mole hill.

That said, for the person who learns in a graphic manner this might be an excellent book!

Summary: I Cannot Praise This Book Enough!
Review: This book is wonderful!

I would get so frustrated when I would try on clothes, trying on outfit after outfit that looked horrible on me. Many of those peices even made it into my wardrobe.

Armed with the knowledge from this book I was finally able to shop for clothes that would flatter me. And, I knew what would look best and why before I even closed the dressing room door.

Let's face it, we all have problem areas (even these two beautiful women!). We all can learn a great deal from this book.

The book might be called "What Not To Wear" but, it could have easily been named "What to Wear to Look and Feel Your Best". I have never felt more comfortable with my clothes than I have since I read this book.

Summary: Have a real body? Skip this book.
Review: If you have wide hips, big thighs, or narrow shoulders, which are some of the most common body issues women have, you will find this book useless: these issues are not even mentioned. You'll also get no help if you have a combination of issues - like both a "big butt" and "no boobs", as the authors describe them - because what you should wear to hide one problem might accentuate another. The fun approach and decent explanations of the issues that they do address can't make up for not addressing some major points.

Summary: For newbies and shopaholics alike!
Review: This book is a great reality check. Even experienced shoppers go into denial sometimes. I have been "blessed" with big upper arms and a short neck, yet I somehow have a plethora of sleeveless tops in my closet. Some of them even have TURTLENECKS! I defiantly jumped on the sleeveless bandwagon, even though I wasn't entirely comfortable doing so. A pricey mistake that will not happen again, believe you me.

I do agree that the book doesn't address every possible "problem area". However, many of the tips that work for one problem area will work for another. For example, the tips for a flabby tummy (lower rise pants, shirts not tucked in) work well to disguise a flat butt and a short waist.

Finally, the writing is hilarious! I also give credit to Susannah and Trinny for using themselves as models--and not just dishing out criticisms to others.

P.S. The version I have has American vendors in the back of the book.

Summary: What Not to Buy
Review: Unlike the other reviewers, I was very disappointed in this book. It addressed only a few figure flaws and did not offer any advice on how to dress for my particular figure problems (flat butt, broad hips, square shoulders). Little or no mention was made as to the effects of colors or types of fabrics and fabric designs on different figure types. In my opinion, this book does not have much "meat" to it, and has nothing new to offer. I have seen all of the suggestions made in the book mentioned elsewhere.

Summary: Too fabulous for words
Review: These girls tell it like it is. They do it without showing all the latest trends - their advice will be as sound in twenty years as it is today. Of course, what they say is completely adaptable to the latest fashions, while most body types (including my own) are not. I am so thankful I ran across this gem!

Summary: Best Picture Book EVER!
Review: This is a great book! I am never going shopping again without it. I took the book with me to the mall, and for every piece of clothing I picked up I was able to apply the rules to my body type. My friend and salesgirls thought that everything I picked out was perfect on me, and I felt great in the outfits. By the end of the afternoon, I was saying, "biased cut, bad for the saddlebags." For the first time since I was a teen, I enjoyed shopping again. The pictures are great, because you are able to see what Trinny and Susannah are talking about. The general rules at the end of each chapter provides a useful summary to take with you to the store if you don't feel like carrying the book around.

Summary: Must have for cleaning out your closet!
Review: I love the show on BBC America and the book does not disappoint. Even applying just a few of the great tips will go a long way in helping you look and feel better!
