Rating: Summary: skip the one star reviews Review: ....I have listened to Dr. Laura's program for the last 8 years... that's before the religious conversion she/her show underwent. I have read all her books, so i feel i have some basis from which to comment. If you are thinking about buying this book, do it. What is it, 10 bucks for the paperback? If the information in it could change your life for the better wouldnt it be worth it? If you think its a bunch of crap... thats fine, but really, really try to read it with an open mind... sometimes the truth hurts and we dont want to admit the image in the mirror is a reflection of ourselves. I had bought a bunch of these paperbacks and gave them to female friends i cared about... young, in their early twenties. .... Dr. Laura is VERY straightforward, blunt, logical, and does not mince words... many people get offended by this style. "Whoa, how can you tell me like it is? I want you to make me feel good." You want to feel good? Go read Chicken Soup For the Soul, but if you want some straightforward advice READ THIS BOOK.
Rating: Summary: reality check for women Review: The book is excellent for women that feel they need to leave in a life in their man's shadows. The books points out that women need to find self-esteem and take control of their own lifes. The book is especially helpful for women in bad relationships. I feel Dr.Schlessinger wants only the best for women and is tired of women playing the traditional victim roles. It is clear that women need to start making changes with themselves. Great reading material of women of any age.
Rating: Summary: For Women Who Desperately Need ANY KIND of Man Review: This book is written for women who need a shove or a kick in the a**. The book basically says, in my opinion: "What are you doing to yourself" -- and speaks to the woman who so desperately needs any kind of man (even if he's abusive) because she's lonely or filling a void in her lifespace with a body, and is completely ignorant in seeing the consequences of her action, in terms of hurting herself and maybe her children. This book is written for women who have no control over their lives and most especially themselves. Dr. Laura is right on. Her book will help those women to make healthy decisions.Yeah, this book is for those self-deprecating women.
Rating: Summary: Boring read, Didn't apply to alot of people reading it. Review: I found this book hard to read & had to make myself keep reading. I didn't feel she was referring to me or my husband, I don't think that if you don't have problems then this is not a good book for you to read. I find some of the women she refers to as stupid women, a disgrace of womanhood.
Rating: Summary: Brilliant! Review: This is one of the most empowering books a female can read---as long as she takes it to heart and doesn't blow off Dr. Laura's statements which are sometimes painful, but always right on target. (Maybe that is why...?) Too many women misinterpret her message and label it sexist or mysogenic, but only because they aren't really listening; they are too busy getting worked up into a defensive lather. I agree with other reviewers--this is a must read for women of any age or socioeconomic standing. I flew through this book in a day and now intend to pass it on to both my sisters, my mother, my grandmother and anyone I know who will read it. I am very anxious to get my hands on a copy of the new 'Ten Commandments' book, as well. Don't hesitate to read this book. It truly can change your life.
Rating: Summary: Dr. Laura is hard to argue with. Review: I've read my share of pop psych. books and haven't felt too strongly about many. Dr. Laura has brought me to my knees. She cuts directly to what someone needs to know about changing themselves and their miserable life situations. Anyone struggling with personal issues, or their relationships needs to read this. I'm a guy and this book has set me off on a more inspired and motivated path for my life, my family, and my career. Watch out men; if your wife, or girlfriend reads this you may get kicked to the curb, or given an ultimatum! Both Men and Women need to read this book.
Rating: Summary: Mysogynistic text Review: Laura Schlessinger skewers her own sex in this surprisingly dull tome. Painting all women with the same broad brush, she presumes to inform females of their multiple failings. Fans of her show will love this book.
Rating: Summary: Mandatory for any female human Review: I love Dr. Laura's matter-of-fact explanation of all ten topics...her points are true and valid and every woman should read this book. You can really put your life in perspective after thinking about all the ways you "were" stupid. More women need to think about what they are doing and why because if your not careful you can end up in one of her chapters. All the real life examples, which everybody can relate to, make the book interesting and lend support to how important it is to lead a intelligent and moral lifestyle.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Book! Review: This book should be required reading for all young women before they make that big mistake. Dr. Laura has made me think and has opened my eyes. I thank her for helping me turn my life around. Every woman should read this book. You may go in defensive but you will think about what she says. This is a no holds barred read. She does not tell us that we are victims, that the men are to blame for our problems and other popular themes the other pop psychologists love to spout to women. She plainly tells us that we are in charge of our lives, we have to make the choices that affect us and that if we are miserable, we have no one to blame but ourselves for staying there. Read this book. You will come out of it thinking differently.
Rating: Summary: Wish I had this eye-opening advice twenty years ago! Review: It is possible that I have made every mistake mentioned. This book is a must for every young women, before she makes those major life-altering decisions! It will certainly be on my gift list.
