Summary: We are in control of our lives.
Review: Good self-help book. Always important to remember is the positive influence of author's father (i.e. getting a degree late in life and ill to boot); not all of us have that as a parental role model. Yea, I know, each of us should be our own positive role models but we don't learn that until later in life.

Summary: Best self-help book I've ever read
Review: I was so tired of grabbing self-help books and wading through one abstract idea after another, wondering "how does this apply to me?". Dr. Phil ended this nonsense. He describes, literally step by step, how to figure out what you've been screwing up in your life (practically these terms) and how to pull it together into a real strategy for everyday living. I was really impressed with his "exercises" for self-discovery (except for the last one -- didn't really tie the first ones altogether too well) and it really opened my eyes up to some areas of my life that I was stuggling with (ie- weight, in-law conflicts, children) and gave me the tools to find my own answers to these issues. Thank you so much, Phil McGraw.

Summary: Great Help for Life Management
Review: This book gets to the heart of your problem - you either face it or put the book down. It will help anyone who feels they are in a rut and can't get out. Believe me you will after you have read this book.

Summary: Finally, a self-help book with real solutions.
Review: I just wish I had this book in high school. Most self help books only explain away problems in your life. Understanding that difficulties in life are "learning experiences" only left me feeling angry, depressed and victimized. Dr.McGraw goes beyond that and makes you realize it's not about dwelling on why these problems exist, but what actions are we going to take to move ahead in life.

Summary: SUPERB!!!
Review: This could be the most common sense self-help book of the 90s. It is a smart blend of modern psychology and motivation. Every spoiled baby boomer should read this. It's main theme is self- responsibility.

Summary: If you truly want to change your life, this is your guide!
Review: This book is not for the faint of heart. Dr. McGraw will guide you through the process of discovering who you are in order to gain control over your life and eventually manage yourself into the life you want.

This book is about results. It's about responsibility. It's only focus is to get you on track by realizing that where you are is where you've put yourself. That is a very scary thought. But, it's that hard-core truth that will allow you to turn things around for yourself.

Summary: Life stratagies is a "MUST READ" for young adults.
Review: Ever heard your parents say, "You'll understand someday."? Well, this book is for everyone who has heard that. Being a junior in college I've learned a lot about myself, and this book helped me to turn my perspective inward!

Summary: Get Results!
Review: If you don't have this one yet, you are really missing out on something special. I am definitely more confident after reading Life Strategies. I like the fact that he tells the truth, and makes no attempt to sugar-coat it. I met Phil at a booksigning a couple of weeks ago and found him to be as personable one-on-one as he is in the book and on tv.

Summary: Straight talk for those who want to change their lives.
Review: A clear, concise and compassionate book which lists and explains the natural laws of life. I admit I also was a bit self righteous when I first read the title. Sure. Right. Uh-huh. However, I found myself fascinated from the beginning and started savoring each chapter. This has not an easy book for me to read. The true picture of what I have become at this point in my life has not been easy for me to face directly. Yet, with each chapter and each assignment, my courage grew stronger. This is not a book for the faint hearted. The response from my family, friends and co-workers have ranged from incredulity to disbelief to wonderment and most importantly, and more frequently, respect. For the first time, they are seeing more of who I really am. If you are satisfied with your life, don't get this book. If you're not satisfied, run and get this book.

Summary: Do YOU want change?
Review: If you're looking for a no-nonsense approach to making changes in your life, read this book. If you take the time to read and STUDY this book, you can make changes. As Dr. McGraw says in his book:

"Start by committing to measure your life and its quality based on results, not intentions"

Once you do the assignments in the book and seriously apply the strategies, you will see results. It will take time-- you won't be able to "change your life in a weekend." But, by applying these principles from day to day, you begin to see how much better your life can be.
