Summary: Not a good book for someone in real trouble
Review: It is sad to think that Amazon does not post "all" book reviews, especially those that might be critical of a best seller like this one. I did read most of the book and I must say I was very disappointed. The cookbook solutions to complex problems have much to be desired and the broadbrush categories beg to be reduced. This book is all about sales and marketing and when you have a talk show host like Oprah hawking it you are going to get buyers not matter what is says. A very sad commentary in the boob-tube world we live in.

Summary: Awesome book
Review: This is THE book to get. Could certainly do without all the Oprah references, though. Too bad there isn't an Oprah-free copy available.

Summary: Great book, must read for anyone
Review: 10 lessons of life, simple but elegant way of summarizing your life's journey!

You either get it or you don't, be one of those that do get it! Since I read this book, I keep thinking about this phrase over and over again.

Life is managed not cured! How appropriate.

Mr. Mcgraw's book makes you think and dig deeper.

Highly recommended.

Summary: GREAT PRINCIPLES - But I want more!
Review: I really appreciated many of his principles. Helpful and Insightful. I like how practical he is. But he is a bit egotistical, and it hampered me abit in really beleiving him. But all in all I felt the principles help me see things in a different light.

Another book I just read that has some Awesome ideas and some GREAT PRINCIPLES was called "Working On Yourself Doesn't Work" by Ariel And Shya Kane... For people that have tried to change themselves...They have a great idea - STOP WORKING ON YOURSELF AND TRYING TO CHANGE YOURSELF - Nothing is wrong with you! The Result - BOTH MORE HAPPINESS AS WELL AS SUCCESS IN YOUR LIFE!

Summary: A dangerous book.
Review: Puts entirely too much emphasis and burden on the individual in a complex society. Depressed people, those with fragile psyches need to come to terms with their inner reality in a setting of unconditional acceptance. Some might feel overwhelmed and defeated if the stark principles in this book don't work readily in difficult life situations. If this book is empowering to some, that's fine. But many people need a gradual, insightful approach and not the bullying, bruising method this author recommends.

Summary: An ok book, but I expected better.
Review: This book was ok and contained some good thoughts, but it did not live up to my expectations. I was expecting much more given its billing as a best seller. Too wordy, somewhat boring in parts - there are better books out there!

Summary: A phenomenal strategy guide
Review: I think this book offers a lot of excellent points and strategies. McGraw really thought through many aspects and describes them wonderfully. Each reader can be enriched by it. Along the same lines like this book, I found another book which also is the ultimate strategy guide for living, and a book that has helped me tremendously and I recommend for everybody to read is Dietmar Scherf's "I Love Me: Avoiding & Overcoming Depression"--also available at Amazon.

Summary: This book changed my Life, my Career, and my Gender
Review: This is an incredible book that has helped me to have the courage and determination to not only become an International Healer, a Best-Selling Author (Chi Gung: Chinese Healing, Energy, and Natural Magick by L.V. Carnie), but also, and most importantly, a truly happy and fullfilled Post-Op Transsexual and the world's first post-op transsexual Two-Spirit Shaman. I have actually applied the books techniques to truly make a difference in some people's lives and you can learn to do that too by reading this wonderful book. As a healer (using Chi) I have successfully helped people with everything from migraines and infertility issues to strokes and ovarian cancer. Helping and healing plants, animals, and people, is what I do about 20 hours a day. Being transsexual has helped me to be fully me and by being who I truly am, that has helped me to realize my potential in all areas of my life. And that's what Phil's book is really all about. It teaches you how to be you, no matter who you are, no matter where you are, no matter what circumstances you might find yourself in. In other words, it teaches you how to live now. And more importantly than that, how to face responsibility for what happens to you. And when you can do that, that's when you can truly make a difference in other people's lives and even in the world around you.

Read Phillip's book, it will change your life and open you to possibilities you never even dreamed of experiencing. It certainly has done that for me and I've never been more successful or happier than I am today as the woman, the healer, and the person that Phil's book has helped me to become.

Summary: You either get it, or you don't
Review: Perfect wording Mr. McGraw.I think eventually everyone will indeed get it.They may not want to hear it yet, but it will happen.Your book is very truthful, and very moving. This book is one of the two things that has affected my life profoundly, and will forever remain a part of who I really am inside. I just needed to be reminded . Thank you

Summary: Much too basic and limiting
Review: There are three flaws in his approach.

First, he makes the individual stop thinking about others, and encourages them to focus only on themselves and their own life. The correct appraoch would be to help readers focus on themselves AND other people, to live life in concert.

Second, this prevents the individual from seeing the larger framework of social activity, of which they are a single player. You don't make change through brute force, but through subtle and consistent attention to pressure points, after recognizing what they are.

Third, if I took his advice, I would be unhappier than ever. You can't make people feel comfortable with pain and suffering just by telling them that they have to deal with it. Pain is never a given. It is simply a result of bugs in the social network. His assumptions doom this book to failure from the beginning, because it springs from his own harsh view, which isn't accurate or objective.
