Rating: Summary: Be who you are Review: I do not agree with this cultural "go for it" approach, people latch on to it, beleive in it, but it is really pretty empty. All there is to be is yourself, and to live within your heart. Dr McGraw's approach is based on his own childhood imprint, it need not be your life. Be yourself, there is nothing more you can get in this life than that. Don't lose yourself in "self improvement"
Rating: Summary: An Outstretched Helping Hand Review: Think about it. True friends offer guidance and advice. Author McGraw is a "friendly" who reaches out globally. No wonder this book is a favorite. Need help internalizing? You will find it in Life Strategies without the academic gobblygook. Readers of McGraw's book (as well as Oprah herself) would appreciate a book akin to his self-help and improvement work. A favorite of mine (from a small publisher without the Madison avenue means to hawk their wares) is a narrative about a common man who had God's special gift to work through, for himself, what insight McGraw offers readers looking for a helping hand. Richard Smith was an average citizen but ordinary he was not. Nonfiction LIFE WITH NOAH takes readers on a mind and spiritual journey of the happiness one can bring to their life once they learn to focus on how to obtain personal freedom. The book chronicles Smith's life and times living free and independent -- focused on his talents and pursuit of his primary interest -- nature and the wilds of the Adirondack mountains. Readers interested in human interest success stories, armchair adventurers and active out-of-doors folks need look any farther for the end result when one carves out a meaningful life route.
Rating: Summary: McGRAW IS MAGICAL Review: I loved this book, and I believe everyone needs it, especially those living in this world, this lifetime! It is a must for people who really need an improvement in their life, in all aspects. Dr. McGraw is a great guy who really GETS IT!
Rating: Summary: Save Your Money Review: It is for people whose lives are off track, not a true "strategy" book to help normal people achieve goals. Rather, it just berates you for being off track. I wish I'd saved my money. It was filled with trite cliche's.
Rating: Summary: Tired of the Cheerleading Review: Slow reading. I was always impressed with Dr. Phil and his discussions on OPRAH, but found the book rather disappointing. He does give a good 'in your face' account of what you need to do in order to perform a Life Strategy. However, I found some of the pages with sentence after sentence just telling you over and over what you need to do but not providing any specifics for the reader on how to actually start doing it. Also felt that the book contained quite a bit of grand standing on how he helped Oprah win her mad cow disease legal case. That grew old very quickly.
Rating: Summary: Great Book, aside from Dr. McGraw's tough style Review: This book is great; I recommended it to all the friends whom I thought needed it. I agree fully with all the life laws, they are the basics of human improvement. I do, however, think that Dr. McGraw's style is a little too intimidating and I did lend the book to someone who got either depressed or frightened on numerous occasions throughout the book. If you are strong and willing to change your life to a more effective, more productive one, read this book.
Rating: Summary: A book that really works! Review: It is an amazing book helping each one of us to have better controll of our lives and to achieve goals. It doesnt really matters the level of the education you have to read this book. The author underlines the basic mistakes we all do without realizing. He establishes the ten life laws and even it is extremely difficult to live according to them it is a great help to know them.
Rating: Summary: Phil totally lays it on the line, the best start for change. Review: While reading this book and doing the assignments, I am no longer fooling myself. My life was laid out before my eyes and I was able to start changing based on the strategies that Phil layed out. I learned that I was hiding from a lot of things and afraid to tackle conflicts. This book is an excellent point of reference for someone who is wanting to change, but does not know where to start.
Rating: Summary: This audiobook is definitely worth listening too. Review: This audiobook is filled with great no-nonsense, cut-to-the-quick strategies for getting on with your life and ridding yourself of useless, old, burdening baggage. I would have given it 5 stars had it gone into a little more detail. This is one of few audiobooks where the author actually does a good job of narrating.
Rating: Summary: Take More Control of Your Life Review: Life Strategies provides a practical path to improving your life. For most of us, our biggest struggle is to take some control of our lives, directing it the way we want to so that we can utilize our talents and pursue our primary interests to a greater degree. Many of us have doubts about whether we can really be successful in having enough control to live the life we really want. Philip McGraw shows us how to do that in this book. He describes what we are going through in ways that help us understand ourselves better. We see ourselves in the real-life experiences of others and we are able to better understand who we are and why we are not able to carve the road we seek. Everyone will find themselves in this book. Then, he shows us how to move beyond where we are, recognize the obstacles and deal with them. Most books of this type are inspiring but many don't provoke the actions that we need to take. McGraw's book is a roadmap. It is highly practical in suggesting ways to achieve personal and financial freedom. This book reminds me of "The 2000 Percent Solution," which provides a similar roadmap for business people. It was written by Donald Mitchell, Carol Coles and Robert Metz and serves as a practical path for dealing with people's natural inclination to prevent important progress from being made by stalling. The authors define the stall mindset and then the different types of stalls, such as tradition, disbelief, misconception, unattractiveness, communications, bureaucratic and proscrastination stalls. Then, they show how to overcome each of these stalls, citing numerous examples of actions by companies and people. A 2000 percent solution is 20 times better than a 100 percent solution. These two books together can make dramatic improvements in our personal and business lives. I also recommend Awaken the Giant Within by Anthony Robbins, Smart Choices by Howard Raiffa, and Getting to Yes by Roger Fisher.
