Rating: Summary: Bottomline advice taken seriously Review: This book is bottomline guidance to knowing what and why you do the things you do. It especially helped me with knowing what my "pay-offs" were to the negative habits that have been in my life for years. I love this man. I ask myself everyday before I get up and work out "what is my pay off today if I don't exercise?". It used to be laziness, now my body is paying me off by losing weight. He really tells it like it is and I'm buying this book as a stocking stuffer to everyone I know.
Rating: Summary: This Book Deserves 10 Stars! Review: Three cheers for Dr. Phil! We should elect him President! If more people read this book, the nation would be a lot happier place to be! I thought the author was very succinct and incredibly motivating! His ideas and strategy were clear, concise, and completely do-able.And as much as people would prefer to deny it, every word he says is true. As a former self denying, but well meaning, disorganized, underachieving procrastinator, I can say ,if your reading this review, you should buy this book. And give it as gifts to every one you know! This book is numero uno on my list. It truly has changed my life for the better.I have developed such respect for myself by achieving the goals set forth in this book. I am now a truly happy person in control of my life and feel I can overcome any obstacle. Another book I found helpful was How To Get Organized When You Don't Have The Time by Stephanie Culp. Reading these two books and implementing the tools used by these people has raised my quality of life immeasurably. I AM A WINNER... AND SO IS DR. PHIL!
Rating: Summary: Taking Charge Review: If you have a teenager, get them this book. If you have a friend, relative or co-worker who is stuck in a bad relationship, bad job or just plain old bad life, get them this book. This should be read by everyone! If your life is messed up in any way, this will show you how to make it better. This book will change your life whether you want it to or not. The author has compiled a compendium of life strategies that are articulated in a clear and persuasive manner. The language and ideas expressed are plain and simple yet very compelling. This is by far the most dynamic book that I have ever read. It started changing my life before I had even finished it. This book should be required reading for anyone who wants to improve their life. Thank you Dr. McGraw, I look forward to seeing more of your books.
Rating: Summary: Great Self-Assessment Exercises and Planning Instructions Review: I must admit that I like to use self-assessment tools to find out what I am taking for granted, and ignoring. Complacency is a terrible foe! I found the exercises in this book to be the best that I have ever used. If you have read a lot of self-help books, you can skip right through to the exercises. If you haven't read many personal self-help books, be sure to read his ideas first before doing the exercises. Basically, Dr. McGraw is pointing out that we become victims when we stop making conscious choices. He helps us surface those areas where we are operating on automatic pilot, and helps us to take the controls again, consciously. I think that this book is one that everyone would benefit from, who wants to improve their own situation. If you feel particularly weighted down by failure in your own eyes, I also suggest you read Failing Forward. My review of that book will tell you how to find self-assessment exercises for that book, as well. If you want to improve how other people perform, however, that is beyond the scope of this book. You'll have to look elsewhere. If you have read nothing on the subject, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People and The One Minute Manager will be good starting points. I found Dr. McGraw's beliefs to match my own very closely, which is why I liked the book so much -- even the parts that paralleled things I knew already. If you skip the exercises, though, you will have made a serious error. That's probably 98% of the benefit of this book. I first read the book last spring, and keep the results of the exercises in a place where I can review them daily to help me stay focused on the changes I need to make.
Rating: Summary: Great Tape! Review: Really great tape here. I've listened to it about 20 times over the past few weeks. Zig tells it like it is while keeping things light and positive. I've listened to other Ziglar tapes but Zig seems at his comedic best in this one; it's very funny. All in all, a great buy!
Rating: Summary: Life Strategies is Life Altering Review: I had found myself in a perpetually depressed mode after having lost a buisness partner and ultimately a job. Even though I felt I had been screwed over, Phil taught me that my attitude to the situation was causing me more damage than the situation itself. It opened my eyes to the realities of my actions as dictated by my self- distructive negative attitude. It helped me realize whom my destructive attitude was really impacting and how negatively that impact was. I have consequently been able to forgive my transgressors and raise myself to a new level of being realizing that no matter what happens, or the attitudes that propegated it, my response is ultimately in my control, and allows my true essence to shine through. This book is excellent reading and when applied can only make your life better. This is one of those books that everyone on the planet could benefit from reading.
Rating: Summary: An absolute must! Review: This is one of the best "self help" books I have ever read. It takes awhile to finish, if you do the exercises (and you should) but well worth the time and effort. It makes you take a very objective, honest look at yourself and how YOU are in charge of your life. Stop blaming your past or others if you aren't happy with your life --- your happiness is up to YOU and if you are ready to take charge you'll make it. He's great!
