Rating: Summary: Good Insight Review: The book is very informative and offers some new insights or avenues on flexibility. Nevertheless, it uses terms that would be unfamiliarized by novices or beginners. In addition, more details should be included when describing how to perform individual exercises. In general, it is a very good reference and companion book if you also own the video/DVD copy on the same title.
Rating: Summary: I hadnt stretched in twenty years Review: then I read RIS and Super Joints( again) nine weeks ago and started back my flexibility program in earnest, along with my training for the RKC. Now I admit I have an advatage having been a gymnast for a long time but I had gotten WAAAAAY tight, as well as imbalanced, in the intervening years.
Using Pavels techniques and remembering how it FELT to let the muscle release my flexibility has come back very quickly. the key, I believe, is realizing that you are not trying to STRETCH out the muscle mechanically, but stop putting the brakes on unconciously as the muscle lengthens.
Using the iso stretching along with the pneumo muscular reflex and contrast breathing I have been able to open up tight shoulders, hammies, ankles, abs,and especially hips.realizing that stretching and strengthening are but two sides of the same coin has been invaluable. as well as that the breath is the key to mastering both.
I have had numerous injuries and am in regular pain. the best result I have had from "opening up" my muscles and joints with RIS has been a drastic reduction in that pain!Plus, my right sided windmill is almost even with the left!LOL!!
Now whenever I get ten to twenty minutes I stretch out.Its amazing how much better I feel and can move.
Reread RIS and focus on the breathing and learn to do "waiting out the tension" on some drill that works for you. I beleive that drill is invaluable for teaching people how to "let the muscle go".
We used to stretch out for 45-60 minutes before we trained in gymnastics and I wish we knew these techniques back then. would have been a hell of a lot stronger, with better joint protection and have it done in half the time.
Rating: Summary: Great Manual, bad book! Review: This book is a great manual for different stretches. And deals with some basic information. But still this book lacks of things needed for people who wants look further into stretching. If you'r a martial artist or athlete, then spend your money on something else. But if you aren't into somekind of physical training, then it's a great book!
Rating: Summary: Overpriced, undersized Review: This book is nothing more than big fonts, huge spacing, and large pictures to take up a lot of pages. For the price, you could buy two good books on stretching and get triple or more the information (Kurz is a good place to start). There's absolutely nothing new or fantastic about any of the ideas here, and he only has one or two stretches presented for each part of the body. The only reason I didn't give it one star is because the book is a fast read and isn't the absolute worst place to start if you've never stretched before.

Rating: Summary: This is the right path to the full dead split. Review: This book, like all of Pavel's works, is a great find. Don't let the size of the book fool you; information is packed in more densely than in any "Muscle Media Fitness for Mullets" P.O.S. you'll find everywhere else. This book containes clear, concise explanations of the theories involved, detailed descriptions of the methods used, and illustrations for each stretch. This guide fits in perfect with the rest of Pavel's works; to get the full benefit, you should get "Power to the People" and "Super Joints". Each book compliments the others. Personally, I have gone from barely-able-to-touch-my-toes to rock-bottom-dead-split in 6 months using the techniques described here. That's why I give this 5 out of 5 stars.

Rating: Summary: Excellent Review: This is a great book on stretching. Pavel clearly knows what he is talking about. He tells it like it is. The book "Beyond stretching" has most of the things in this book plus a little more. Get that if you want but this is a little more detailed on some parts. It would be best to buy "Beyond stretching" or by this book as well as the other 2 streching books coming out soon "Superjoints" and "Fast and Loose". Overall a great book. Definatly worth the buy.

Rating: Summary: flexible muscle strength Review: This is the best book out there on stretching the safe way with efficient productivity. it is also about strenghtening your muscles. it not only teaches stretching through each stretch movements but give you the background and education to understand the principles of the stretches. once you understand the principles, you can start to create your own varietion of stretches if you know the kinesiology movements of the muscles. the reason i gave this a 4 is because Pavel left out the joint mobility exercises and dynamic stretches that i felt were important to having a healthy muscle. he didn't even explain why he left those out. these stretches sure beats the heck of the american passive stretches that is't effective. this is a great book that has no nonsense information just like his other books.
