Rating: Summary: Good Info In The Book But Overpriced Review: All of Pavel's books including Relax Into Stretch have excellent information which it hard to find else where. However Pavel never invented the exercises nor he came up the research himself. However it is one of better stretching books in the market and I have got better results in my stretches with information found in Pavel's book. The main downside of this book and other Pavel's books is that his books including Relax Into Stretch are overpriced. That's why I put a three stars on this one. For those whom want to be able to do full front split or side split, I recommend Stretching Scientifically by Thomas Kurz over Relax Into Stretch by Pavel Tsatsouline for a better run for your money.
Rating: Summary: Key Advice for Improvement (even at advanced levels) Review: Although on the surface, the exercises may not seem that different from those you could find in other books, the mental imagery (pushing the walls) and fine details of execution (push in lower back) are the big difference. This is the best book, by far, of the author's collection. If you only get one of his books, this is the one (more complete than "Beyond Stretching", which paradoxically is a previous work to this one, not, as the title might suggest, a next step).
Rating: Summary: Worth every penny Review: As an over 40 year old who used to have the flexibility of a mannequin, I can say without hesitation that Pavel's stretching program works wonders. Like all of Pavel's products, it's filled with golden advice and good humor. I've vastly improved my flexibility following the advice in this book. This book delivers on its promises.
Rating: Summary: Its ok Review: Good information but the book is way too expensive. All the techniques are essentially isometric stretches. The whole book has a hypy feel to it. There is a lot of pushing of other products and the humor element gets a little old. But if it works then its still good.
Rating: Summary: Makes Perfect Sense Review: I always had a sense that there was something wrong with the way stretching was typically taught and understood. When you stretch your muscles, they become tense. This can be observed by anybody, quite easily. Simply continuing to stretch beyond this point - the way most of us learned, is painful. It's no fun at all, and if you do manage to make any progress, it's over the course of months or years. I knew there had to be something better out there. Found it! This is it. You learn to control the tension in the muscle, and the stretch happens naturally. This book tells you why this works, and how. There are 30+ stretches in this book, some for muscles you may not have previously though of stretching. It's not painful, and it's a routine you can look forward to. You no longer have to stretch because somebody told you it was good for you. You won't be stuffing yourself into a suitcase like a contortiounist over night, but you will make significant progress in one session (your first). Now, I doubt Pavel invented this method, and there seem to be other books on the subject, so let me address other aspects of this book. It's a blast just to read it. Pavel has a unique wit, the likes of which I have not seen before. His style allows him to be very straightforward about what he is teaching you. Even the pictures are charming. These aren't those akward pictures that you see in fitness books, where the subject quite obviously does not want to be photographed, and consequently you don't feel quite right looking at them. He seems to be enjoying himself. There's even pictures where he's showing you what NOT to do, and he has a finger pointing at you as if to say "Now there, don't you try this, Comrade!" I typically do not write reviews, but I'm very happy with this book and had to share. Have fun, Comrades.
Rating: Summary: Pavel is a genius! Review: I am a Tai Chi player who recently got your excellent book "Relax into Stretch". I am enjoying your book immensely, and already told several colleages, who will also get it. I have never been very flexible, but I believe that your techniques will enable me to finally be able to touch my toes without bending my legs, and improve my Tai Chi form as well. (Ultimately, the Splits may even be possible!)Thank you for this inspirational book!
Rating: Summary: What do you mean your not flexible? Review: I ask as if I didn't have the flexibility of a fence post 4 months ago. This was my first purchase, in a long list of Tsatsouline products I now own, from Pavel Tsatsouline. My flexibility was terrible and the old stretches from my highschool years just didn't do it. One thing lead to another and this book and its author came to my attention. Suffice it to say that "...the flexibility of a mutant." becomes your goal once you see the gains. Pavel is in typical form here providing great info and great stretches. If you pay attention as I did, you will become quite fond of the cossack and crawling lizard in no time. Buy it, your body has been screaming for it.
Rating: Summary: Stretch Your Mind and Your Hamstrings Review: I can't say I've read many books on flexibility with the wit and clearheaded wisdom I found in Pavel Tsatsouline's "Relax Into Stretch." Tsatsouline delivers the how-and-why of progressive techniques for achieving of suppleness, from simple yoga stretching to advance neuromuscular facilitation without burying the reader in hocus-pocus or scientific jargon. If you're looking to stretch your preconceptions about flexibility, Tsatsouline's "Relax Into Stretch" provides an alternative: straightforward and practical techniques that don't require a lifetime to master. Rating: Summary: I am touching my toes!! Review: I have been actively applying the techniques taught in the book for about a month and have seen results. I was what you would call SUPER stiff. I haven't touched my toes since.......a long time. Well, I am now seated on the floor toe touching for a good 30 seconds and more. For me this alone is more than worth the price. That said, for some the price of the book may be steep and perhaps the info is in other books out there. For me it was the right book at the right time. A lower price would have made it 5 stars.
