Summary: excellent writing...but a sad, depressing story!
Review: I am a huge fan of the show...in fact, watched the first season dvd and then read the book. There is a sad sense of desperation about these people....nights out that end in too much drinking, drugs and sex....and emptiness after. They are so preoccupied with how they look and although they want husbands....the general view is that they don't believe they will ever find someone that will marry them...and so they don't. I found parts of it very perceptive, but overall, depressing as hell! Save your money, and watch the HBO show instead...it is funny, and full of hope.

Summary: What's all the buzz about?
Review: Typical of a New York Observer writer to pen a cynical, exaggerated account of wealthy Manhattanites. But the series of vignettes didn't convincingly hold together as a book--just a series of romantic foibles between a stable of two-dimensional characters. I've heard a lot of hype about the HBO series. My only hope is that the characters on the show are a little less shallow and self-serving than these women seem to be. Given the material Bushnell has culled here, I'm shocked she portrayed those people in a positive light.

Despite all this, there are some incredibly funny and even sweet moments in the book. I'm just glad it's not MY life....

Summary: The show is much much better
Review: I have been wanting to read this book ever since the show came out and I finally got a chance to read it recently. Oh how dissapointed I was when I finished! I thought the characters were awful. I really disliked all of the characters including Carrie and Mr. Big. I did not find any of them clever or funny. They were just shallow, stupid, and twisted. Thank God the show is NOTHING like the book!

Summary: How Bitter Can You Get?
Review: I am a huge fan of the HBO series SEX AND THE CITY starring Sarah Jessica Parker and gang. It's funny, edgy, and sometimes poignant. I was really excited about reading the book. But I was very disappointed. Unlike the series, Carrie and Co. are portrayed as bitter, angry women. Their relationships aren't developed, nor are their characters. The banter, the warmth of their friendships, and their hopefulness that they will eventually find relationships that work aren't there in the book as they are in the series.

My recommendation? Watch the series, buy the first season DVD, and skip the book!

Summary: Big Disappointment
Review: I do not get HBO but did buy the DVD series of this TV show (the first season). Then I bought this book. I read the book in one day and thought it was very boring -- very slightly like the series, but I think the tv show is so much better. The writing in the book was dull and un-interesting. Don't waste your time or money -- .

Summary: Great Insights
Review: Sex and the City is not only a lot of fun, it offers some unique and fascinating insights into the different ways that men and women view sex and relationships. This book is a must for all single women and men out there. If you like the series, you'll love the book. I'd also like to thank the reader below for recommending Fried Calamari -- I loved it.

Summary: show or book?
Review: My favorite show is Sex and the City on HBO. I never miss it. So I decided to buy the book, to read more about Carrie and the girls. It isn't exactly like the show, which I expected. I did really enjoy it nonetheless. Sometimes it was hard to keep up with all the names, but I still could not put it down. I love short stories, it made it quicker to read...I was hoping for more. Bushnell tells it like it is.

Summary: Good, but not expect too much
Review: Well, most of the people who will read this book will do so because of the great success of the HBO's series. But try not to expect too much. It was a good starting point for the TV show, but sometimes it is dissappointing in some details. In my opinion, the TV show is better. But hey, go ahead and read it! It is not bad at all. It surely shows some aspects of single-life here in New York, and the shallow characters are so easy to find in real life! I can say that, because I am currently living in Manhattan and I have seen similar weird situations depicted in this book. If you want some summer fun, pick up this book. I finished it in just 4 days...

Summary: Sex and the City
Review: This is the best book that I have ever read. I was literally glued to it and could not put it down. I finished the book in three days and felt empty after I was done because I no longer had anything to read. It was great to see how the character in the book relate to the character on the television show. I loved it
