Rating: Summary: Job hunting skills for SPs too Review: What a surprise! This book even helps SPs be more effective job hunters. This is exactly what I need. As it turns out, even if I didn't have SP, I wasn't doing what I needed to do to get a job or wasn't doing it correctly. Thanks to this book I can work on my job hunting skills while I work on my SP.
Rating: Summary: Has deep understanding of problem Review: This book is like an open window for me. It is such a relief to know that someone really understands what my life is like. People get so impatient with me when I can't bring myself to go places or meet people. They think I am being silly or stubborn. They do not understand. I feel hopeful knowing the author has been through it too.
Rating: Summary: Good guide to making friends Review: Reading this book is like reading my journal. I really relate to Barry's struggle of going to a singles bar then agonizing over everything. Trying to meet people and date is a big struggle for me too. I like how this book talks about what social phobics go through and need to know to get better. It details the steps in meeting people, carrying on conversations, and dating. I'm taking these small steps and seeing that maybe having friends and dating isn't impossible for me after all.
Rating: Summary: Gives meaning and purpose to life Review: The way Dr. Dayhoff helps you through social anxiety disorder helps you get in touch with the meaning of your life. You discover your potential and purpose. It allowed me to feel more complete and whole, formulate my goals, and see how I could reach out to others. This has been pivotal to my recovery.
Rating: Summary: Helps you achieve your dreams Review: Everything in this book is geared to give you the best chance for recovery from SA/SP. It has a comprehensive educational component, personal stories you identify with, and exercises and advice for every conceivable problem you face. Its powerful program motivates you and systematically develops your thinking, feeling, and acting so you can visualize and experience the changes as you go. It gives you *everything* you need to achieve your dreams!
Rating: Summary: This is a keeper Review: Generally when I get self-help books, I read them, get what I can out of them, and pass them along. Not this book. This is not a one-shot deal. This one I want around so I can reread it, do all the exercises, and try all the suggestions. I also enjoy reading the author's personal experiences with social anxiety. This is too valuable a reference for me to let it go.
Rating: Summary: You have to read this Review: Clear and well-organized, this book is loaded with useful and inspiring material. It's like a college course in a book that's surprisingly fun to read.
Rating: Summary: Gives you a second chance Review: It is like being reborn. I am emerging from the darkness of this psychiatric disorder to feel the sun on my face for the first time. All the things that were withheld from me before are within my grasp now. This book has made it possible.
Rating: Summary: Tops in my book Review: Entertaining and educational with first-person understanding, insight, and guidance. You can't ask for anything more.
Rating: Summary: Use as a complement to therapy or alone Review: My psychotherapist recommended this book to me. I expected a slim volume of background information and some exercises but that's not what I found - much to my pleasant surprise. Instead the book covers absolutely everything about social phobia and life with it - the kinds of stuff my therapist couldn't supply. Really helpful.
