Summary: Useful Information for Performance Anxiety Too
Review: Because I'm a perfectionist. I don't like giving top ratings to anything but this book demands it. I'm a professional musician who has experienced performance anxiety before every performance for years, sometimes so bad I felt like I was going to hurl or pass out. Even though this book isn't aimed specifically at musicians, it describes me to a tee, right down the the waste basket I used to stick my head into before I went on stage. I've already noticed what the doctor calls positive "baby-step" changes since doing the exercises and following the strategies. What I like is how the book is tailored to everything a person who suffers with performance anxiety or social anxiety needs to get on with his life. While the doctor's empathy and compassion are important, her emphasis on my growth and development in all areas of my life are even more important to me. I really appreciate what she has done (especially the online resources and career advancement advice) and is continuing to do.

Summary: Book Review- Author: Dr. Signe Dayhoff
Review: "Diagonally-Parked in a Parallel Universe" is the socially anxious person's bible for thoroughly understanding the disorder, and working toward recovery.

It is also an imperative information tool for the support people in their lives.

I find that few writers have brought to light so many of the specific personal life challenges faced by social phobia/anxiety sufferers. Dr. Dayhoff, a recovered social phobic, delivers empathetic and expert counsel for overcoming these challenges.

The book delivers a message of hope: There IS a way out.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Excellent!
Review: I have had Social Anxiety Disorder for years and this is the best book I have read on the subject. Dr. Dayhoff discusses and offers coping techniques for the many different situations social anxiety sufferers encounter. The book covers real-life, everyday issues, such as how social anxiety affects dating and the work enviroment, that most other books on social anxiety do not cover. It is very well written and I would suggest this to anyone who suffers from Social Anxiety Disorder.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Full of insight, understanding, expertise and humor
Review: It is so exciting to find someone who intimately understands social phobia from both the inside and the outside. I recognize myself in so many of the situations Dr. Dayhoff describes! In addition to her empathy, up-to-the-minute information and strategies, I love the way she writes about SP. It is so casual and conversational. Even though SP is serious, her description of her own experiences with it makes me laugh out loud. Her use of humor makes SP all the more understandable and human. I could read it over and over again for the entertainment value alone but that is only the frosting on a terrific cake. I hope everyone, SPs and nonSPs alike, reads it.

Summary: Poorly written, poorly thought-out
Review: This book was very disappointing. The author addresses each topic by making list after list and bullet point after bullet point, covering many points but elucidating very little. There may be enough solid material here for a useful 20-page pamphlet.

This is a self-published book, and it shows. The writing is amateurish and there was no proper editorial guidance. For instance, in one 20-question true/false self-test, we are told to add up our Ts and multiply by 100% and divide by 20. Of course, multipying by 100% is the same as multiplying by 1 and serves no purpose; a small thing maybe but indicative of the lack of care and competence throughout. A whole chapter is devoted to job-seeking advice, including a questionnaire that asks us what kind of hours we prefer, what kind of salary, and whether we prefer a large or small company. So much of the book is off-topic filler like this that I got the impression the author just wanted to have written a book in her field for professional reasons. She sure told me very little useful about my condition in the course of a very tedious 350 pages.

Review: Way to much time spent talking about theories. The advice seem to miss the mark for me.
I recommend "Dying of Embarrasment"

Summary: Good as Both Resource Book and Treatment Book
Review: The first time around it took me a while to read it because its a lot of material. I wondered why the author included so much background information about SA. I expected the book to be more like "do this listing of 10 exercises for 10 weeks and you will be cured". But the more I got into the introductory chapters the more I could see the book really understood SA and was telling me things so I could understand my SA too. By the time I got to working on my SA using the author's CBT + social effectiveness approaches, I was glad I had not skipped the first 5 chapters. I did pretty well on my own but later found that I wanted personal support. I hired the author to coach me. Wow! Everything fell into place so beautifully because I had read the book first. Now I use the book for reference when I want to remind myself of different strategies and exercises. I have found the material very helpful to my SA recovery. Warning: if you are looking for something that is fast and superficial, this may not be the book for you. If you are looking to change your life for the better and are willing to do what it takes to make the change, this is definitely the book for you. I highly recommend it.
