Summary: Thanks to the authors
Review: Having recently read Dr. Cutler's and His Holiness's book, I would like to share how I truly enjoyed reading it. A different way of looking at life and how to live it more happily is a powerful concept. The authors strive to make deep concepts accessible without "dumbing down" the material. After reading the book, I was struck by how much respect the Dalai Lama inspired in Dr. Cutler . Buddhism and its different perspective intrigued me. I had my feelings reinforced that the Dalai Lama is a special human being. Thank you very much.

Summary: Dissapointing prose by Western Psychologist.
Review: I thought that I was buying a book by the Dali Lama but instead got a journal of a psycologist that traveled with and interviewed him. The author has taken great pains to fill his book with insights of he and his colleagues while still finding some room for the wisdom of the Dali Lama, most of which he seemed determined to resist.

Summary: Cute, but lacking substance
Review: This book is a good light read but lacks the level of substance necessary to give any real insight. I wish Cutler would have gone in one of two directions: a.)delve deeper into the western interpretation of the Dali Lama's teachings or b.) give us more (less repetition) of the Dali Lama's teachings.

Summary: A WONDERFUL WONDERFUL BOOK! THANK YOU DR. CUTLER!
Review: What a wonderful book! Dr. Cutler has achieved the impossible: made Buddhism easy for a beginner and a "non-believer." He writes so skillfully that you become completely engrossed in the story of this wonderful man, the Dalai Lama, and his talks with Dr. Cutler who seems to ask all the questions we would love to ask. Don't miss this book - it will change your life! And it's the perfect gift for almost anyone...

Summary: Cutler uses a big name to promote a little book
Review: I felt deceived by the cover and touted authorship. Certainly the Dalai Lama is more substantial than this glimpse of him we receive through the restricted lens of a western psychiatrist who often comes off as petty, immature and missing the big picture...

Summary: A must for those truly searching for a guide to inner peace
Review: This book was recommended to me, and I picked it up with a note of scepticism. Instead, it has changed my life. In simple words, made accessible by Howard Cutler's Western commentary, the Dalai Lama shares his knowledge, gained over a lifetime, for finding wisdom, inner peace and happiness. This is not a light book for casual entertainment. It is truly a workbook, a handbook for living, with thoughts and meditations that can truly change the way you see the world and the world sees you. I am immensely grateful for having found it. I consider it a key to the rest of my life.

Summary: This book is relevant, thought provoking and interesting
Review: This book has made me a happier person. I found the material relevant, thought provoking, and interesting. The writing style is very readable and I found myself thinking of ways to incorporate this material into my everyday life. This is a must read book for anyone searching to enrich their life.

Summary: It's a good book, but it is not what it is advertised to be.
Review: I found the book to be fascinating and very informative. My one criticism is that the book is pitched as a Dali Lama product, or at least co-written by the Dali Lama. It was not. It was a book by Dr. Cutler that espoused his own views and subject matter. The Dali Lama was used as prime source of material for the book, but was not a prime author.

All that said, Dr. Cutler does a fairly good job, and the book held my interest. However, all it really did was whet my appetite to read a book that was really authored by the Dali Lama.

Summary: Very good book, but, it takes a lot of concentration.
Review: I would reccomend this read for anyone interested in becoming a better individual.

Summary: Great and practical introduction to Eastern thought
Review: For a beginner, Eastern thought is sometimes hard to comprehend, and I have had trouble finding a good introductory book (although I am from the East myself). This book is a great introduction to basic Buddhist thought without the terminology. Dr. Cutler, being a Western psychiatrist, asks probing and sometimes skeptical questions that occur to all of us. The Dalai Lama's answers are easy to read and practical. While reading his answers and Dr. Culter's narrative, one gets a sense of the greatness and wisdom of the Dalai Lama. Very good book. I highly recommend reading it.
