Rating: Summary: Deeply thought provoking, hopeful, disquieting Review: I have found that during the time I was reading this book, and since I have finished it, I thought much of what was written was rather disturbing and unsettling. Disturbing in that it contradicts much of what I was taught as a child and have believed as an adult. It has quite a ring of truth to it. It has kept me wondering and thinking. It is a hopeful book, but also has left me feeling a bit sad. I think I'd need more than 1000 words to attempt to cover it all. I would recommend this book highly.
Rating: Summary: The Art of the Dialogue is Back Review: I have found the Disappearance of the Universe to be invaluable in my study of A Course In Miracles. A Course really is just that: you do the lessons, and then work on your mind and thoughts as you live your life. ACIM, then, is like a textbook for studying a new language; when you finish the workbook, you're ready to travel to the country and start trying to speak it. Under this analogy, the Disappearance of the Universe has been like a book about the history and development of the language you study in ACIM. And would you study a new language without learning about the people who speak it? The book is written like an ancient dialogue, with a style easier to understand than Plato's Republic, but without limits in its profundity. Where the Course is general or abstract, this book is incredibly specific, even being packed with historical references. It has indeed enriched my understanding of ACIM, but more than that, it has helped me actually understand in a concrete way things I had passed over in A Course for lack of understanding.
Rating: Summary: Astounding Clarity of Course Theme Review: I just finished reading this new book by Gary Renard and have to admit I'm astounded by its clarity in describing the essential theme of "A Course in Miracles," which is forgiveness. Although I have been a student of the Course since 1985, there were some concepts that have been so misinterpreted by my various studies that only by reading the clear discussion here did I finally "get" it.Although the Course language is beautiful beyond comprehension, the straight-forward, direct language of "the disappearance of the universe," is very helpful in clearing up questions. This book is not a substitute for "A Course in Miracles," but it is a wonderful refresher course in reminding us over and over again that the key to waking up is to forgive continuously. It would also be very helpful to those who are contemplating the Course as their spiritual path. "A Course in Miracles" is far from mainstream, but as "disappearance" states, "it is actually spreading at a much faster pace than Christianity did." Also, "a hundred years from now, a significant percentage of the world's population will accept that the Course is really Jesus speaking the Word of God." The book clarifies many common misconceptions about what the Bible says and explains how the teachings of Jesus were misinterpreted many years ago, and again now, His Words in the Course are frequently misinterpreted. "God is" is the absolute truth that never changes, but "disappearance" states, "To accept it however, requires the kind of mind training the Course gives you...as J asks you in his Course, Would God have left the meaning of the world to your interpretation?" (Text 640) I highly recommend "disappearance of the universe" to anyone who is open to the spiritual path of the Course. As the introduction to "A Course in Miracles" says, "It is a required course. Only the time you take it is voluntary."
Rating: Summary: A Course in Miracles Teacher Highly recommends this Gem Review: I picked up this book not knowing that it was connected in anyway to ACIM. I was delighted to see that it was. This book is filled with what the Course calls "Miracles" which are otherwise known as "Changes in Perception." As I read the book I felt the same joy as I felt when I first picked up A Course in Miracles. Everything that I read was in alignment with the Course's teaching. I will share this Gem with all in my world. Thank you Gary and Patrick for listening to the Voice that Knows and bringing this book to life. Rev. Ananda Polito McIntosh
Rating: Summary: Straight Talk About Illusions? Review: I purchased this book because of a credible endorsement by the publisher (That should have been my first clue!)via an e-mail, asking me to help make this book number one on the Amazon list.
Harry Potter, please forgive me.
I am wondering if the author would write this book in a format that young children may understand, so they don't have to wait until adulthood to discover that they are from Mars, that Mary Magdalene was "J's" wife, that heaven is one big orgasm.
Are you sure the author didn't mean "Straight talk about delusions"?
I feel cheated. I recommend "Sermon on the Mount" by Emmet Fox,and will re-read that book many times.
This book is just plain disturbing..
Rating: Summary: Disappointing.... Review: I really wanted to like this book. It sounded so interesting. But it was quite a disappointment. There are a few points in the book that I liked, but I was so turned off by the trash-mouth language and tone of the conversation that I found it hard to take any of it seriously. I just can't believe that two "ascended masters" would talk like that. The author states in the Introduction that they said they needed to talk like that in order to get his attention. Well, I'm sorry, but anyone who needs to be talked to like that to get his attention shouldn't be writing a 400-page book on issues this important. Also, I found it quite curious that the author and the two "ascended masters" all three spoke in the same rythmn, the same style, and used the same words. Even in a conversation among three "humans," each would each have a recognizable individual style of communicating.
Rating: Summary: A Must Read of Course Students Review: I started reading "The Disappearance of the Universe" believing I was reading another 'conversations' book, and was wonderfully surprised and gratefully mis-informed. My experience of Gary's delightful book was that of Gratitude. Grateful that a book has been written that addresses so deeply and seriously the one and only message of "A Course in Miracles". FORGIVENESS. As a Course Group facilitator, I encourage others to read it....be vigilent and attentive to the message! Gary's book "The Disappearance of the Universe" has assisted in deepening my awareness of the simplicity and importance of Forgiveness. Not only at a deep inner personal level, but also one of seeing my brother as the messenger of my salvation by acknowledging his innocence and visioning him as forgiveness. Then forgive the mind that projected anything other than perfect innocence. In the end, it really doesn't matter. This is a dream, after all, in which we think we're here. Since we believe we're here, why not have some fun. Read Gary's book, take what you want and leave the rest.....and don't miss the message....Forgiveness is the way of return, through the thin veils of darkness into the Real Dream, where God waits our return to where we never left. Thank you God is...thank you. Blessings......
Rating: Summary: The secret to waking up once and for ALL!!!! Review: I thoroughly enjoyed this book! Couldn't put it down once I started...like manna to my soul, feeding me with truth and light page by page. It zooms in on and repeats over and over through simple questions and answers the fundamental purpose of A Course In Miracles: how to forgive! This is accomplished through the thought system of the Holy Spirit that Jesus dictated to the scribe of A Course in Miracles. In distilled form, it spells out the absolute necessity, urgency and power of forgiveness, with practical teachings that explain how we ended up in the mess we're in and how through forgiveness we finally got out! This is truly a wonderful companion book to the Course that clarifies and emphasizes its incomparable value, simplicity (though not easy), and the uncompromising change of mind that is essential for our true liberation that includes everyone and everything. And as Jesus tells us," this (forgiveness) is a required course"...one way or the other, you DID do this Course!
Rating: Summary: A Compendium of Two Review: I'll get right to the point. There are all the rest of the books in the world and there is A Course in Miracles. Or at least there was... Now there is A Course in Miracles and The Disappearance of the Universe...
Rating: Summary: If you're ready..... you'll not be dissapointed Review: I'll second what the other reviews have stated. This book helps to put the practice of forgiveness, that ACIM teaches, into action. There was a desire in me to read it cover to cover like the best novel one could lay hold of, but I didn't, choosing instead to read it slower like a text. It has helped make ACIM the most important course in my life.
