Rating: Summary: Curves is the BEST...... Review: as far as workouts go, but I am not in agreement with Mr. Heavin's diet recommendations. First of all, I'm not willing to gain 3-5 pounds in order to "speed up" my metabolism, considering I only have 10 to lose in the first place; nor am I willing to allow myself periodic monthly gains of 3-5 pounds, hoping to lose "a few pounds in 2 days of dieting per month" in an effort to maintain my weight. Thirdly, I would never be able to even reach 2500-3000 calories per day on a healthful diet. I also don't agree with his macronutrient percentage recommendations: for the 1200 calorie plan, he recommends 40% protein, 20% carbs, and 40% fat. My body functions much better on higher (healthy carbs), lower (high quality) protein, and lower fat levels. Possibly this is more geared to people who have more substantial amounts of weight to lose. I may be willing to implement Phase 1 of the diet for one week, just to see what results I get. All that having been said, I love Mr. Heavin's style of writing and there is some wonderful information in this book regarding the workout itself and just reading this book will inspire you to get moving and to include strength training in your workouts. I'm still glad I got this book and it will continue to be a valuable resource for me. I'm just not sure I will follow his diet plan as laid out, choosing to keep my weight at more steady levels rather than continually gaining and losing the same 3-5 pounds every month for "maintenance" as he suggests. If I could lose 3-5 lbs. by dieting 2 days a month, I wouldn't have 10 to lose in the first place! I'm not discounting his method as wrong, just not sure it is right for me.
Rating: Summary: At last, a permanent solution. Review: Finally, every thing you need to get to, and maintain a healthy weight and lifestyle. Extremely well written with no-nonsense, easy to follow plans that anyone can live with. I've now lost 25 pounds and 30 inches. No more 'diets' for me! This book is truly a gift to share with others. Just like my new beverage of choice that replaced my morning brew. Its called s oyfee and taste so wonderful with no caffeine or acids. Organic and made from soya! Bye bye acid stomach and hello healthy tummy! Google it under "acid free coffee"
Rating: Summary: I am enjoying the gym not doing the diet yet Review: First I must say that I find it truly amusing that the worst review for this was writen by a man who so odviously has never actually used much less properly used the equipment. I can asure everyone that the machines are quite easy to use without "thrashing around" and that when used properly don't seem to cause injuries. Having the cardio everyother is nice even if it is redundent bc most of what I need right now is cardio. The environment is also nice as it is not full of people who live to workout. Certainly is a beginner environment but I am a beginer. Oh and on the medical side many of the people where I go including myself were sent by dr's. Yes we all know that exercise and a healthy diet will help us loose weight but this program is great for those of us who have no idea where to start.

Rating: Summary: Member of a Curves Gym Review: I am one of the few people that actually enjoys exercise. I am in the final stages of recovering from a bad tib/fib break in my right leg. I really only have about 10lbs. to lose and have been working out at home on my treadmill and with 5lb. weights. I'm in pretty good shape and have excellent cardiovascular health, however, I find myself exhausted and sore after these home workouts, but not in a good way. My co-worker told me about Curves so I went and checked it out. I made up my mind to join after one time around the circuit. What a fantastic idea!!! The workouts leave me engergetic and satisfied. It's a wonderful way to rehabilitate. AND I find that the machines work you as hard as you're willing to work so they're perfect for anyone in any level of fitness.
Rating: Summary: Kudos for Curves! Review: I enjoyed this quick read that put the Curves plan of weight loss into an easy to understand format. The metabolic tune-up Heavin writes about finally gives women an answer as to why they gain their weight back after dieting and how to overcome this frustration. The at-home workout seems a bit cumbersome, but it gives an inexpensive option for accomplishing both aerobic and strength training. The section on nutritional and life style answers for chronic diseases is something I want my husband and all my children to read. This book is confronting and motivating. Of the eleven risk factors to heart disease that he mentions, he says, "Only ... three, your age, your family history, and whether or not you have gone through menopause, are beyond your control." His solutions give me amunition against this killer disease and others.
Rating: Summary: Interesting but not practical Review: I found Curves interesting in diet philosophy, but impractical in application. How realistic is it to not only eat a set amount of calories per day (which is nothing new), exercise, and eating food from the following 40% protein, 20% carbs, and 40% fat. I found The Phase Plan: Base Your Life on the Alpha, Delta, Omega System and Banish Dieting for Good by Dr. Lola Greene (ASIN 0972165363) more realistic as it was based on individual differences in what foods to eat instead of a flat 40-20-40 division of food content.
Rating: Summary: awesome! Review: I gained a lot of weight taking prescribed steroids. None of the diets worked, though I stuck to them hard and fast. I joined Curves in July, 2003, working out 2-3 times a week, and have lost 22 inches!!! The pounds are just starting to come off now,as well. When you have a lot to lose, it takes time, patience, and hard work. CURVES IS NOT A SCAM! It's a well thought out, well controlled weight loss/strength gaining program. If you are weight loss resistant, as I am, do yourself a favor and check out your local Curves. I thank God that I did. By the way, my best friend, in a similar situation, lost 100 pounds in 9 months by going to Curves.
Rating: Summary: Curves is Super! Review: I gave the book to my mother and she can't stop raving about it. She needed an easy, convenient way to excercise without a crazy diet...nows she's got it. Thanks Curves!
Rating: Summary: A great gift! Review: I gave this book to my mother, who has not exercised in years and wanted to shape up a bit and lose a little weight. She loves it! She's actually excited to exercise, thanks to CURVES! She's not a gym person, so this was absolutely perfect for her - it's a gift for her health! I recommend this to give to everyone who's afraid to get back on the exercise bandwagon - they'll be motivated to get in shape because Gary makes it so easy!
