Summary: basics in dealing with people
Review: I'm in the role of a leader so I naturally picked this one up. The title is very interesting. He starts with topics such as getting people to like you, love you, or just think you're great. He moves on to never be fooled, tricked, manipulated, used, lied to, or taken advantage of again, etc... He does offer a lot of useful information.

CASE FOR:
only $...dollars, this book is information packed, and easy to find needed topics. It's small so you can easily carry it around with you. And if you are faced with a situation, you can easily find needed information in dealing with what's before you. Chapters are short so you are not swimming in endless useless information, and mostly straight to the point, with nice strategy review at the end of each chapter.

CASE AGAINST:
He repeated some information. The book started out with the bang and finished kind of low. In some chapters he simply stated what he stated before while trying to discuss new topic. He had some pretty good chapters as well as some weak, I skipped those.

If you are new in influencing people, or to understanding people. this is a good book to start with. If you are seasoned leader, and you understand people, you won't like this book.

* "How to win friends and influence people" similar but a better book

Summary: This Book Is Nonsense
Review: This book is a complete waste of money. David J. Lieberman, Ph.D. offers the reader a shopping list of other people's ideas that have been reduced to slogans and cliches. There is no insight into any of the ideas presented in this slim volume. If you buy this book, you prove his claim, that you can get anyone to do anything if you make it seem easy enough.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Effective and Fascinating
Review: This book is far superior to most in the self-help genre. The techniques Lieberman describes are intellectually fascinating and effective in practice.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Manipulation
Review: The title of the book is using his own thoughts, it could me called "Manipulation" and it probably wouldn't sell as many copies. You realize that you have the power before reading the book, it's just a matter of understanding and weilding that power.

Summary: It Promises the World and Delivers *@~K All
Review: David (Phd) Lieberman promises the world and delivers little, if anything at all. The 'self-help' book, contains one of the most exciting premises ever -'getting others to do what you want...etc.'and successfully sold zillions of copies - even though the content contains little more than stating the 'bleeding obvious!'

What an inspiration! I wonder if I too can earn a lucrative living - rehashing worthy texts such as 'Influence' by Cialdini -and with a little twist here and there, promise the reader to impart amazing life-changing secrets, while in actuality deliver no more advice on 'influence and persuasion' than my next door neighbour's cat.

I was incredibly disappointed and feel rather conned - I should have paid better attention to some of the critics below and not wasted my money - some of Mr Liebermans reccomendations are bizarre, others are laughable, a few are summarised words of widom taken from Cialdini's far superior work and other suggestions are so blatantly unsubtle, they wouldn't go amiss in a Jim Carey movie.

Ok, maybe I'm a bit too harsh - if I had read the book age 15years I might have got something out of it, I guess its pretty easy to read and does contain some gems (even though they have largely been re-hashed)but for the discerning business man who wishes to get the upper hand over colleagues and stay one step ahead of rivals beware, implementing some of Liebermans 'hot tips' could make you a laughing stock.

An amusing read (for all the wrong reasons)that doesn't live up to its promises - buy with caution.

Summary: Short but effective
Review: You may have to read some of these ideas over and over again. They seem to work! I have yet to implement all of them, and some of them fly in the face of wisdom, but sometimes you have nothing to lose ( especially in the world of dating ). The author knows his psychology. This book has helped me immensely on getting along at work and dealing with difficult people. Simply by phrasing questions and requests differently, you will get much more satisfactory responses from people. There are various chapters on romantic, business and social relationships and how to deal with them. There's also a little creative use of body language. Don't view it as manipulation - we are bombarded every day with manipulative advertising and coercion. Just see it as a way to smoothe things over and make life a little less stressful.

Summary: Not worth it...
Review: This is a book where the author gives secrets on how to control common situations: " get anyone to like you, how to make a fantastic first impression, get anyone to understand anything, secrets to winning every situation..."

The only problem is that half of the tips are useless...

Summary: Manipulation 101
Review: Yes this is basic manipulation 101.

The best thing about this book is that it gives you basic psychological information. So much so that it seems like a watered down crash course in the subject area.

But who am I to say anything about psychological manipulation?

I gave it three stars. It does contain some surface information. If you want to properly utilize it's methods you will need alot more literature, training, etc.

But please, learn to control yourself before you control others!

Summary: Basic common sense
Review: I purchased this book hoping to be enlightened on some major secrets on how to have the upper hand in any social situation. It proved to be no more than basic common sense. Any [person] will tell you that smiling at people softens their opinion toward you. You won't get any more information from this book than you would by simply living.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Excellent tips to make you the psychological warrior
Review: Lieberman uses techniques that will improve your handling of life's "most interesting" situations. His ideas on attraction, how to get a person to call you back, how to get a stubborn person to change their ideas, how to stop rumors before your reputation pays the price, and various other sections are simply ingenious. The book is well written, gives you real psychological case studies to provide further evidence in human behavior patterns, and give you powerpoints in improving your ability to win friends and influence people.
