Summary: Do your math before you attack a NOBLE PRIZE WINNER!!!!
Review: Sear's ZONE is not a 30% high fat diet. It is a balanced diet based on the amount of protien consumed by the musles each day and the ratio of fats and carbohydrates. Sear's endoreses 1 protien unit 7 grams or 73 calories or 57% of cal to 9 grams of carbs or 42 cals or 32.5% to 1.5 grams of fat or 13.5 cal or 10.5 %. Ketosis only commonly occurs in type I diabetics like myself this is cause because my body does not produce insulin any longer and fats are burned to survive at such a high rate that the bodies ketone level rises. Non-diabetics need not worry about there diet causing KETOSIS. Diabetics must consult there doctors and find the right insulin regiment to match there carbohydrate intake!!! The cause of Ketosis is that the diabetic did not take enough insulin!! This will not happen if the diabetic monitors his sugars and will only most likely happen if the diabetic is ill (this diet or any other may not change this) or if a diabetic stops his insulin injections, which is likened to suicide. This is a diet based on maintaining a chemical balance based on how much protien is destoyed by the musle ware and tare, by fuel needs ie carbs and fat needed to regulate your biochemistry!!! This balanced diet will help diabetics establish a steady supply of sugar so insulin control may be better. I have seen 3 poeple on this diet lose wait then stablize on a fix wait that only changed if they excercised more and increased musle mass!!! This diet will help the type 1 dieabetic face his greatest enemy hypoglycema. The diet has a low sugar in take ie 32 % vs the 60+% diet that I was put on. If I am not very careful with a high carbo diet my sugar can be all over the place. The lower sugar ie carb diewt (carbs are converted to glucose ie sugar) The more carbs of different types ie various amount of sugar can lead to more insulin reactions a controled medium sugar diet with steady intake ie eat atleast every five hours and eat foods that are slow absorbing will lead to less insulin hypoglycemea.

Summary: "Reset your genetic code?" Give me a break!
Review: This book will be perfect for people who are addicted to fad diet books. Just like every previous book, you'll read his caffeine-and-adrenaline prose, get all wound up about changing your life, eat a fairly decent diet for a while, lose some weight, feel better, and fall back into the same old habits just in time to buy the next best-selling diet book.

Bottom line: if you don't have the true self-discipline to eat decently (we all know what eating decently is, for goodness sakes--the hard part is doing it), then this book might get you psyched up enough to eat right for a while. If you have the self-discipline to follow this or any other diet for a long period of time, you're probably already eating well and don't need the book.

Why not just skip the book and start eating better today? Is lack of knowledge really the problem? Is a book really the answer? Not likely. If you do get this book, please don't for a moment start to believebe that his rediculous pseudo-scientific ravings prove anything other than how ignorant most people are of what constitutes a repeatable, reliable scientific study. But on the other hand, The Zone is pretty much what I and most other healthy people I know have been eating for years, and yes it will make you feel a heck of a lot better than McDonalds and Taco Bell (as long as you don't follow the author's advice too rigorously while engaging in athletic activities, in which case you'll starve yourself to death.)

Summary: The Twilight "Zone" : Insulin,Insulin,Insulin
Review: First of all,as all of the 5-star reviews attest, you CAN indeed lose weight on the "Zone" diet.(It would be surprising if one DIDN'T lose weight on this convoluted regimen,given the extremely low caloric intake recommended) There are a lot of ways to lose weight temporarily. A bigger concern than losing weight should be how to promote good health through diet. 30% of calories from fat and 30% of calories from protein is not the way. Sears--like Adkins and "Sugar Busters"--beats the insulin issue to death. My goodness,you'd think elevated insulin levels are the cause of virtually every malady known to man. Insulin levels are a concern to DIABETICS,of course. And no nutritionist would advocate a diet high in simple sugars. But I continue to be amazed at how the so-called "Low-fat,High-carbohydrate" diet is attacked. SO-CALLED,because the "low fat" diet is commonly represented as 30% of calories from fat,in line with "standard&! quot; guidelines set forth by the AHA,FDA,etc. However--as Pritikin,Dr.Dean Ornish and others have pointed out--30% of calories from fat does NOT constitute a truly "low-fat" diet, rather 10% of calories from fat does. A TRUE low-fat,high-carbo diet regimen has been proven in numerous studies to reverse heart disease and prevent cancer. However,most people would prefer to believe that they can continue to eat considerable amounts of fat and protein under the guise of a "healthy" regimen. And the weight loss the comes from following the "Zone" diet(as previously stated,due mainly to very low calorie intake) just reinforces that notion. Long term health will no doubt suffer,though.

Summary: you must read this book!!!
Review: I read this book over a year and a half ago and am still an avid believer. It's proven itself to me and surpassed the trendy phase. The information is very compelling and makes so much sense!!!

Summary: best book that I ever read!!!!
Review: I just recently read this book and it makes total sense to me. I'm just your average female who is married with a child and works at a desk job for 40 hours a week. I have been on the zone plan now for 2 weeks and can really tell a difference, and so can my husband. I was especailly interested in the section about cancer and the zone. I have an aunt on my mother's side that was diagonsed with breast cancer back in January. Later on she discovered that it was in her lymph nodes and a spot on her liver. She has had all kinds of treaments and it seems the first two are gone, but the spot on the liver remains.

Summary: YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE INFORMED TO BE A CRITIC.
Review: I read the reviews at this site and then ordered the book. Its been about 6-8 weeks of being on the diet now and its working exactly as advertised. About 1.5 lbs per week. I am so pleased!! All of the negative reviews I read by medical and proclaimed medical people appear to be from folks who heard about the book but didn't actually read it. He addresses "ketosis" and the other concerns they express. Furthermore, these people should know that most Americans don't eat anywhere NEAR this healthy when they AREN'T dieting!! I deducted one star because its a little "Cheezy" with all the references to "In The Zone", but it still delivers as advertised!

Review: ANTONIO ASKED ME OUT!.. do you know why? cause I look GOOD!! (real good)

I finally lost those extra 10 pounds! after trying ..like.. 50 other stupid diets...THE ZONE WORKED!

SO I DON'T CARE WHAT THOSE PESIMISTIC, THINK THEY KNOW ALL THAT, SCIENTISTS SAY! I LOOK GOOD!

Thank you Mr. Sears... for writing THE ZONE... if Antonio and I get married, I'll invite you to the wedding.. lol!

Summary: Dr. Sears goes against the system and wins
Review: I, having a degree in middle/secondary education with an emphasis in science, found this book to be extremely well-written and backed up with good data. I have read the reviews by doctors and nutritionists who claim that this diet will cause the condition called 'ketosis'. If you had a true understanding of ketosis you would know that ketosis comes from a high-protein, low-carb and low-fat diet. Dr. Sears even mentions ketosis, and why it is so important to balance all of it to prevent ketosis. My personal opinion is that some of these nutritionists and doctors are worried that someone will buy the book, and their faithful belief in the 'food pyramid of death' will be their downfall. These people are on a crusade, a witch-hunt if you will, to ensure that Dr. Sear's excellent book goes unread. Dr. Sear's has given me everything I need to enjoy life and lose weight and fat. His explanations were thorough and well-thought out. He has also made a very versatile an! d flexible system that is easy to follow. I have only been on this life-changing model for a week, and I am already beginning to feel, more alert, healthier, alive and better about myself. I hope that the same people are going to be nicer as they fall down the ladder when Dr. Sear's philosophy takes precedence over their silly food pyramid and carbohydrate death wish. Even with all of the refuting of his scientific data, it still remains that people 'were' thinner when balanced meals and less carbohydrates were served. Three cheers for Dr. Sear's, I think he has done a great job.

Summary: Amazing. Funny how the establishment hates it...
Review: I don't do diets, but this seemed interesting, so I decided to give it a shot. What an incredible book! I have been waking up 90 minutes earlier than I used to, and I have the energy to exercise every morning, something I have been trying to do for YEARS. Yes, I've lost some weight, but the main benefit from this book is energy, mental alertness, and feeling great!

I am generally a skeptic, and read many of the "naysayers" before trying this, but none of them could offer any argument other than "It's not the same advice we've been preaching for years so it must be wrong." After reading the book, I am astonished at some of the arguments I read, as they clearly have not read the book. Anyway, if you want energy, you want to lose body fat (slowly, but it will stay off), and you want to feel GREAT, this book is for you.

Summary: Finally I found out the truth about good eating.
Review: I am so happy to finally found the Zone diet and to have success with it. The book explained in easy-to-learn terms how our bodies work and why food should be treated like a drug. I had the hardest time losing weight dispite working out 1 1/2 hrs. a day (5 days per week), eating a low-fat high-carb diet, until I changed my diet to the Zone diet. Thanks to Barry Sears I have lost 15lbs and improved my exercise performance to running 5-6 miles a day (6 days per week) and lifting weights 3-4 times a week. Not only that but I feel incredible! (and it's only been 2 months)
