Summary: I've tried them all.
Review: I've tried all the diets. The last one, the low/no fat diet put on several pounds of fat and reduced my muscle mass to nill. I looked a mess. All the diets say you won't be hungry, you'll lose only fat/not muscle, you'll look healthier, etc., This is the only one that says it truthfully.

It teaches what is going on in your body on a molecular level. Numerous types of hormones control everything in your body (sleep patterns, libido, energy, skin, hunger, etc.,). They reduce in middle age due to diet, not age! You don't want a high amount of hormones, you want a balanced amount. So taking a hormone pill is not going to help. This book shows you how to bring everything back into balance through diet.

Try it, for your self-esteem and your health, both physical and mental.

Summary: Lose weight with fewer calories
Review: The Zone is a calorie-restricted diet. It's not hard to lose weight when you stick to it, but I found myself fighting the urge to eat more.

Summary: Been there, done that, lost pounds, inches and feel great!
Review: I have had a lot of success with the Zone. I only had to read quickly and get a feel for the Zone and then committed to staying within it. I didn't care for the technical mumbo-gumbo <no pun intended>, however the explanations of how our bodies respond to the intake of food made sense.

Summary: You may lose weight but....
Review: I don't know about the rest of you but I myself obey the laws of physics. If you take in less calories than you burn you will lose weight. Period. The Zone diet is a severely calorie restricted diet and that is why you will lose weight on it, not because of any magical hormones that will be released while you follow it. The problem for me is that although this may be a short term solution I cannot subsist on less than 1000 calories a day for the rest of my life, and I can't eat more calories and still follow the plan. Do the math yourself if you don't believe me. In addition, I think Sears' description of "good" and "bad" eicosanoids is disturbingly oversimplified as all of these subtances are essential for life. One point that is well taken from this book is that many Americans have gone overboard with the low fat high carbohydrate diet. They avoid all fats like the plague and think they can eat unlimited carbohydrates without gaining weight. But of course it all comes back to the calorie... eat too many of them and you will gain weight. It doesn't matter which macronutrients they are derived from, a calorie is a calorie is a calorie. It's simple physics and you don't need a diet book to tell you that.

Summary: Solid advice, absolutely solid results!
Review: Ignore the 'ketosis' criticism of this book - it's crazy. The book goes out of it's way to explain why ketosis is bad and how to avoid it by eating enough carbohydrates. Also, this isn't a low-carb diet, it's a balanced-carb way of eating for life. Mainly it's about avoiding insulin resistance by eating lots of vegetables and balancing it with protein and small amounts of healthy fats. You still get more cal's from carbos than anything else, you still get no more than 30% of your diet from fats, and this is NOT like the atkins or other low-carbo ketosis diets. The difference is that it controls your insulin (fat storing hormone) much more closely than other diets. It's sad to see some members of our medical profession so entrenched in their sadly misinformed view that lowfat high-carb diets are the best way to eat. I know that plan hasn't worked for me - it gave me triglycerides >500 and HDL <30, and frequent hypoglycemia - a very dangerous situation. I have already seen great improvements to these numbers based on the ZONE. Give this book a try - I think the advice is solid as a rock. Any doctor who criticises this as a fad ketosis diet is making a fool of himself and obviously hasn't read the book well.

Summary: It works.
Review: Not a "high-protein" diet, this is a refinement of the classic "block" system for balancing a diet. It also has a tech support line, for questions about the diet. Easy to follow, too.

Summary: A realistic way to eat & live.
Review: This book puts into perspective why many of us continue to gain weight, even while we are "dieting". I am really glad I came across this book. It is easy to grasp the concept, but takes some time to get used to not eating as many carbohydrates. The tough part is finding foods that are "Zone-favorable", and Dr. Sears helps with some good, realistic suggestions. I look forward to getting his Zone-Favorable menu book.

Summary: It worked for me also!
Review: I read this book and was somewhat skeptical about Dr. Sears' claims. Even though I am still not totaly convinced of the science behind his marvelous way of eating (not really a weight loss diet), I have lost weight and feel great. Some readers have felt a little overwhelmed by the scientific aspects I see. In that case, forget reading the entire book and just concentrate on formulating your body composition and Chapter 8 which explains the food blocks. Afterall, we do alot of things in our life and have no idea why or how they work.

Summary: A fantastic, achievable lifestyle change for everyone!!!
Review: I am a true believer in the writings of Dr Sears!! In six weeks, I lost 27 pounds and have kept the weight off!! I was not obese, and I weight train and do cardio work four times a week. Enter the Zone and the cookbook have changed my life in a positive way. I was in the military and would always go on the "wrestler's diet" of sweating and abusing diuretics to make my "quarterly weight." No more pain or suffering as I now know how to eat!! The USDA's food pyramid is a prescription for failure!! Thanks Dr Sears!!

Summary: TOO MUCH JARGAN
Review: I've herd alot of wonderful things about THEZONE but quite frankly I think that it wasn't written to be understoodd by the average person. One of my co-workers went out and bought the book and was very excited, I having lost weight myself was thrilled for her. The next day she came into work more frustrated, and confused, and very bitter feelings about the book. I asked if I coulc lookat it during break and was absolutly shocked and amazed at the way the book was written. I am very disapointed. I just hope if enough people request, that they will come out with "A ZONE DIET FOR DUMMIES" because I personaly never felt so stupid in my life.
