Rating: Summary: What this diet really is... Review: Suzanne Somers' diet really is the same as Fit For Life diet (book) by Harvey and Marilyn Diamond, copyright 1985. My copy is yellow with age. You can tell it is the same by just reading the excerpt on the Amazon web site. The same food combining strategies are explained in depth by the Diamonds in this book...............
Rating: Summary: don't buy this book, buy "Get Skinny on Fabulous Foods " Review: I bought both books, but the second one (Get Skinny on Fabulous Foods) had more recipies and a recap of the "Eat Great, Lose Weight". Along with the recap was some updated information. Get Skinny has all this book has and more. Save some money. The "diet" itself, however, is great! I've only been on it for 1 week, but I feel great! Never felt better.
Rating: Summary: A great way to take control of your eating habits Review: I've lost nearly 50 pounds with this book. Although combiningfoods Suzanne's way helps me to eat less, I believe what makes themost difference is cutting out sugar. I'm a healthier, calmer person now. I don't eat red meat, and I still eat potatoes occasionally. You don't have to follow the book exactly to get results! My advice to you is to closely watch how much saturated fat and sugar you consume. But the basic principles are good to follow, and it's worth a try to see if the program works for you...
Rating: Summary: Finally, a way of eating that makes sense! Review: This book is fabulous! I've managed to lose 24 pounds in the last 3 1/2 months (although it would have been more if I hadn't had a couple of weeks of cheating). I find her explanations straight forward and simple to understand. Yes, there is too much info on her family, but oh well. The recipies are good, but as for the ingredients, it isn't too hard to change them. Use different vegetables, or meats, or whatever. It's the ideas that come from these recipies that I like...how to adapt ones that I have always loved. I found that a number of family "classics" fit into this plan with ease--maybe just omit the usual rice or potatoes--but add a salad or more veggies! I will admit it's challenging to pack a bag lunch on this plan, but I find if I have some fruit mid-morning and mid-afternoon I can get by with a veggie-sandwich or two (using whole-grain bagels)or last night's left overs. In these 3 months or so, I've lost 4 inches on my waist. I think that this will be something I can stick with for life. If you are just thinking about doing this--go for it....you have nothing to lose if it is not for you. People at my work have noticed my success and a couple of them are now trying this program. Oh there is one down side to this....I have to buy new clothes for work---they are all too big for me now! That's one down side I can live with!
Rating: Summary: Great for the long haul! Review: I began this diet fourteen months ago, and lost about 20 lbs. in twelve weeks. I have managed to maintain my loss by staying mostly on level one, with the odd venture into level two for special occasions. Both my cholesterol and blood pressure have lowered, and my doctor, who was leery at first, is now a believer. The recipes are easy for the most part, and once you get the hang of food combining, it's easy to adapt your own recipes for Somersizing. Believe me, this diet works!
Rating: Summary: This is the way that many Europeans have eaten for years! Review: Having spent my childhood in Europe, I found amazing similarities between the way Europeans eat and Suzanne's diet. This way of eating is why they stay so slim and eat such "rich" foods.I started combining this diet with the suggestions for my blood type in the Eat Right for Your Type diet. I noticed that I was lost even more weight with this combination. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in adopting a food lifestyle where you do not need to suffer through bland meals and very small portions. I gave it 4 stars for the simple reason that I felt some of the photos were "cheesy" (Suzanne in the bathtub surrounded with rose petals) and there was too much focus on her extended family, for my taste and how "wonderful" everyone and everything is. Call it petty, but the above is the only flaw to the book.
Rating: Summary: Eat Great, Loose Weight and she aint' a kidding! Review: I have never had a weight issue. I was a performer for years and was blessed with a metabolism that could digest a vat of fat without adding an ounce to my waist. Remember, I said, I WAS a performer". 2 1/2 years ago I got a desk job and I haven't stopped gaining weight since. That was until now. Suzanne's book is uninimidating and filled with page after page of easy to follow lifesyle changes that don't feel like dieting at all. I have been following the program for 2 1/2 weeks and I have successfully lost 10 pounds. The recipes are easy to follow, delicious and surprisingly filling. If you are tired of trying... why not succeed? This book is a MUST!
Rating: Summary: Great and easy reading material Review: I am not a big reader, but Suzanne got me hooked on reading at least her books. They are easy to read (I have all three) and very informative. I have read and tried other books with similar concepts, but she gives you recipes so you don't get bored of eating the same way all the time. That was probably my biggest downfall with other diet plans. I would find something I liked and eat that for each breakfast, lunch, and sometimes dinner too...boring. This book is not just informative, but it explains in latent terms how the body works and why sugar and carbohydrates make your body resistant to "fat loss". I have lost a few pounds already and I have only been on it for a week. I also enjoy cooking and baking and it was exciting for me to go out and get the spices and the ingredients for the recipes. I am looking forward to "Somersizing".
Rating: Summary: Bravo, and Hats Off Review: After years and years of dieting, I finally broke down and decided to give this book a try. I have been pleasantly surprised! I've followed the recipes for one month and have lost 15 lbs and several inches, I plan to keep up with this for the rest of my life. If anyone out there is on the fence with this book, give it a try, I use to eat non-fat, low-fat and still never lost any weight. Through Suzanne teaching me how to seperate Carbs and Protiens and cut out sugar, I am satisfied after a meal and don't look to cheat! Bravo Suzanne, let's get another book out with even more recipes.
Rating: Summary: The book- Not the Diet Review: I'm writing about the book itself, NOT about the diet. I feel the book is NOT worth the money. Unless you can gag-down all the self promotion that Suzanne does, please do yourself a favor and try another book! Every chapter is full of her telling us about her "wonderful" trips across the world, her "beautiful and perfect" family, endless bragging of her showbiz life (how LONG has it been since Three's Company's been on the air? ), "Tacky" photos of family outings, constant display of "snubbiness" (do we HAVE to hear how she likes to be served on her silver tray while resting on her silk sheets?), and to top this off Do you ever remember Suzanne Somers as FAT? Is the diet hers, or is she a paid spokesperson for this diet? It's basicaly the Atkins Diet only with some fruit added. I find her rumblings of herself takes away from the writings of the book. Get a life Suzanne- get over Three's Company's- stay with the imformerials- those we can turn off!
