Summary: Every word is true and it is safe for nursing mothers
Review: As a nursing mother I wanted to lose the weight that I had gained over the years, but how could I do so without effecting my baby. The answer was in the pages of Suzanne Somers' book. My weight was not a product of my pregnancies, but a product of not eating correctly. I have struggled with my weight since my early twenties and now in my late thirties I was looking for a healthy alternative that I could incorporate into my family's lifestyle. I am teaching my daughters how to eat correctly and the weight is coming off of me in a way that I never thought was possible. I am not depriving myself or my baby of any of the nutrients that we need. Instead of having ups and downs in my energy all day, which called for quick pick me ups that were not so healthy, I now have a constant and consistent energy level that allows me to keep up with my three daughters. This is a lifestyle that we can all live with. I was skeptical at first, but when I lost over 5 pounds during the first week, I became a firm believer and follower. This book is worth the money and worth following - even if you're not nursing a baby.

Summary: It's a copy
Review: When fit for life came out in the 80's I purchased the book and has been living by it since then. The blurb about her discovering how to eat in France, not to combine certain foods is old news. She makes it sound as if it was her idea. Credit needs to be given where credit is due, which is "Fit for life". This woman has some nerve, anything to make a buck, right.....All I can say is, food combining is the way of life, it's treating your body with respect, and I learned that from Harvey Diamond, the guru of food combining, and not from Suzanne Somers.

Summary: Not always as easy as it sounds...
Review: I just recently started the Somersizing program. I was enthusiastic having read the book and the recipes (I love reading recipes) because most of the recipes seem easy to prepare and contain foods I really like (unlike in other diets). I never followed another diet before, just ate less of all the foods I liked and cut out the junk food and it usually worked. Then in end January I stopped smoking and even though I did not eat more or compensate with chocolate etc. I started gaining weight like mad. By the end of August I had gained 30 lbs and needed a new wardrobe. The doctors said this weight gain was due to my metabolism slowing down because of not smoking as well as probably being peri-menopausal and to be patient, exercise, eat less. I didn't feel like being patient any longer so I started somersizing and at the same time taking 6 CalSea Tablets per day to give me all essential amino acids and 75% calcium necessary each day.

HOWEVER, I have great difficulties with my body's and mind's reaction to the change in diet (i.e. loss of sugars, useless carbos, caffein in tea). It's 100 times worse than stopping smoking! I'm dead on my feet, feel stiff all over, have terrible headaches, can't concentrate, feel bloated after proteins and veggies meal, am ready to bite anybody's head off on one hand and extremely depressed and insecure on the other. I would say these are signs of extreme "cold turkey" and I will have to see a doctor very soon in order to reduce these negative symptoms so I can continue this diet change.

Anyway, I think a little more emphasis on possible ill side-effects due to extreme depletion of certain bodily substances, hormones etc. which one might not be aware of could have been made at the beginning of the book. Ms Dixon does caution those with certain conditions, but I don't or wasn't aware that I might have one or some of them, which is why I started without having seen a doctor.

One other thing, Ms Somers may have gotten the idea for this diet while in Europe, but you can't get or can't find a translation for some of the ingredients (i.e. my health-food store owner never even heard of caffeine-free tea, you can't get Nutra-Sweet over here (which is supposed to cause cancer anyway), some of the types of flour and sugars).

I sure hope I can find a way to overcome the side-effects quickly in order to keep me able to somersize and not lose heart and quit an otherwise fascinating and readily understood concept.

Summary: Help, My Pants Don't Fit Anymore!
Review: They are all too BIG!! I am a 34 year old woman who's weight has been yo-yoing for only the past 5 years. I only needed to loose 15lbs but finding a diet that worked was agonizing, frustrating. I tried all the diets that used to work when I was younger, but they failed me.

Finally I met someone who lost 40lbs while Somersizing. So I tried it. I am convinced this is it for me, in only 8 weeks I lost 10lbs. and I feel great and I do not feel deprived or hungry. This a way of life for me now and I will never go back to all those Carbs and white flour products, The Enemy!

Good luck and give it a try for at least 2 weeks, its so easy and it works!!!

Summary: Learning what to eat when!
Review: Everyone I know seems to be on this diet. My relatives are all dropping pounds and swear by "Somersizing." Suzanne Somers discovered this diet while seated in a garden in a medieval French village. That tells me it must be a great diet! I love France.

After finishing a delicious dinner, she stood up and picked some cherries from a tree overhead. Her host told her that would cause indigestion and keep her up all night. It turned out to be true and she discovered the centuries-old theory of food combining. This dictates that certain foods must never be eaten together.

This diet allows proteins and fats to be eaten together, but never with carbohydrates. Her plan is low in sugar and carbohydrates, but permits all sorts of fruits. Fruit must however be eaten on an empty stomach. Vegetables, bread, cereal and pasta may never be eaten with fats or proteins.

She has tried all the other diets and finally found one that worked for her. When she hit 40, her metabolism slowed down and she was getting fewer and fewer results. She finally tried food combining and it worked. She lost 20 lbs. She believes sugar was the enemy. She recommends going cold turkey the first week you are on her diet.

She also recommends exercise. One thing she says is that you should give yourself at least a few weeks to start seeing the results.

Her plan includes: Eliminating sugar, starch, white flour, caffeine and alcohol. You must eat fruit alone on an empty stomach. Proteins can be eaten with cheese, butter and vegetables. Pasta may be eaten with veggies. You must wait three hours between meals if switching from a protein/fat meal to a carbohydrate meal or vice versa. Eat at least three meals a day and don't skip meals.

It sounds simple until you have to give up your buttered toast with jam and tea! I am going to try the fruit idea for sure and try to incorporate more of her ideas. I already hardly eat sugar because I found Stevia, which tastes so much better than all those artificial sweeteners. So, give this diet a try. My uncle has lost quite a few pounds and swears by food combining. He also loves to eat!

Summary: Discouraged
Review: I have read both books Suzanne Somers has wrote regarding weight loss. I truly wanted it to work for me as I have read the testimonials of others it worked for. I am sorry to say by following this diet, I have gained in two weeks 1 1/2 pounds. This is so discouraging to me. Why? I cannot afford to gain another pound. I have a back condition that impels me to lose weight. Help.

Summary: Another Lifestyle, Not Another Diet
Review: While I haven't started Somerisizing yet, I have just finnished reading her book which I bought last week. I found I could identify with her struggles with her weight mostly because of the heart-warming tone in which she depicted her story. Many of the other customer responses indicated that they disliked the way in which Suzanne incorporated her personal experiences in with the diet, but that is to be expected. After all, the book is not just another diet by a no name author. The book's title is SUZANNE SOMERS'Eat Great, Lose Weight and it is about Somersizing, so what did people expect? She was the one who did a lot of the research for this book, so why wouldn't it include anecdotes from her life? After all, it is HER book, and I personally believe it was very well written and thus easy to understand. I furthermore feel that her celebrity status makes the book more "fun" to read rather than if by some no name author. It is also comforting to realize that even celebrities struggle with weight. Suzanne's writing style leaves the reader feeling inspired and enlightened. She adapts theories from "Fit for Life" and "Atkins" and made them more liveable. She teaches the reader how to properly combine (and thus separate) proteins from carbs. By doing so, you are not restricted to specific amounts of food, as quantity is no longer an issue. She teaches you how to listen to your body and eat until you are comfortably full. As long as your meals are properly combined, you really can eat great and lose weight on a program that is not another diet, but instead a complete change in lifestyle.

Summary: I Made It To My Goal! Thank You Suzanne!
Review: Hello! I have written a review for this book before titled "Finally, something that really works for me!". Well, I must tell everyone that I did it! I have lost a total of 41 pounds. I used to wear a TIGHT 14, and now I am in a size 9! I feel fabulous and I look great! It took me a total of 6 months. I also exercised using Tae-bo videos and the Torso Track, which Suzanne highly endorses. I just want to say to Suzanne, thank you, thank you! You have changed my life forever! My husband is so proud of me and everyone wants to know how I did it. Anyone out there who is desparate and unhappy with themselves, read this book! You can do it. I am an Irish girl and I love my potatos. Going from 196 pounds to 155 feels so wonderful! If I can do this, anyone can! Get this book!

Summary: Recipes are wonderful!
Review: Not only does the diet work well, but the recipes are fantastic! Not easy-cook, for the most, but worth using for special meals. And the rest of the time, just follow the chapters on the foods to use or not use. I'm glad I bought this book!

Summary: You don't have to use her recipes
Review: I have been on this diet for a little while and absolutely love it! It is the first one that has ever worked for me, and the best thing of all is that I have more energy and feel better than I have in over 20 years! I don't even read her recipes, I just make sure that I don't eat the forbidden foods such as sugar and starches, and I eat in the right combinations. It is so simple! I would highly recommend this way of eating to anyone who wants to lose weight, be healthier, or just feel better!
