Rating: Summary: Healthy eating? Review: For those that would like to believe this is a healthy way to eat, go for it. If you believe that we are a fat, unhealthy country because we eat too many carbohydrates and not enough meat, this book is for you. If you would just like to look at Somers' picture, buy it. But if you are overweight, have diabetes or one of many other problems related to diet, look elsewhere. We are being duped in this country-the message from people like Somers is overwhelming the truth. Be careful.
Rating: Summary: It's About Time! Review: I have finally found an eating plan that is nutritional and also great for weight loss without feeling deprived. Thank you, Suzanne! I know some people say that weight combining is old hat and this book is just a copy of others, but sometimes it takes a famous person to get the point across. I commend you for that. I have lost 11 lbs. since I started this diet in early January after those holiday feasts took their toll. I did have the obligatory sugar withdrawal headache for one day, but after that it was easy. The weight came off gradually, but steadily. I have never been hungry. I have eaten more fruits and vegetables than I have in years and am hoping that my rising cholesterol will be abated by this eating plan. The recipes are great and even if you don't lose weight, it seems to be a healthy eating plan. What have you got to lose?!?!?!?
Rating: Summary: loose weight the easy way! Review: this book is perfect for looseing weight! you don't have to try yo-yo dieting for your whole life! eat great foods and still loose weight! try it! it is the only loose weight book you every need to buy!
Rating: Summary: it doesn't feel like a diet Review: I have only been on this diet for 6 days and I can't believe I haven't eaten all the goodies I keep in the console of my truck. They do call me a bit but I don't feel the need to have an eating frenzy when I am driving. Never in my life have I thought it possible to pass up the goodies, but this seems to be working. The only problem is a nagging headache but I hear that is something alot of people had. It is hard to get your mind thinking that fat is ok after all I have read and heard but it does make sense. The recipes are great and quick to make too. The only problem I have is with, dare I say it, gas. I have never had a problem with that but I guess all these tasty veggies are taking its toll. Both my husband and I are sticking with this and I can't wait to see the results.
Rating: Summary: A life Saver! Review: I came in contact with this book last July, 2000. I found it to be very easy to read. Suzanne kept her focus on how she felt this way of eating made sence to her and why. I must admit I wasn't too sure that it was going to work. At this poiint in my life I guess I felt I didn't have too much to lose, or I should I say I had a lot to lose weight wise. I have always had problems with how my body would digest or not digest food. I can not eat certain things without a severe reation, now I understand why. These foods are on the do not eat list, avocados, bananas, peanut butter. If I would even take a bite of any of these foods I would end up at the hosptial in terrible pain. I also have suffered from other problems related to how my colon functioned or didn't function. Without going into any detail I will just say it was always something I had to think about and deal with whenever I ate period. I got to the point where I didn't even want to go out to eat in fear of what might happen. I can honestly say that not only have I lost 40lbs. but my quality of life has improved greatly. Nobody wants to talk about these types of difficulties but I felt it was important. I know there has to be other people out there that go through these same kind of things. I hope by putting these things out there that maybe someone might be able to be helped in the same way I was. To me losing the weight was just icing on the cake. Learning to eat this way is not difficult. Some of the things I have given up are things I loved to eat, potatoes, gravey, white bread, but the benifits are far more important and I don't ever feel like I'm dieting or going hungry. I will be able to eat like this for the rest of my life and be happy with it. I just want to say thank you to Suzanne Sommers for writing this book. My life is better because of it.
Rating: Summary: Life Saver Review: I am 47 years old and in the last 2 years put on 15 pounds. Every time I would eat I would look 3 months pregnant! I am a 3rd degree black belt and a certified weight trainer so it's not like I wasn't getting any exercise. I've been on the diet for 2 weeks and I have already lost 10 pounds! I fit into a skirt that I haven't fit into for 2 years. I feel great! I only had a headache the first day and I haven't craved sweets. In fact, I sell Mary Kay and had my Holiday open house last Saturday and had two trays of cookies and candy kisses everywhere and didn't eat any. I now rollerskate every morning outside(I'm in Florida) to help firm up. I hate to cook but the recipes are easy and great tasting. I no longer bloat after eating. In fact my stomach is almost flat! I would encourage anyone to give this diet a try!
Rating: Summary: This book has changed my life! Review: I've been fighting a losing battle with my weight my entire life. But I've been on this program for about 8 days, and already I feel like a different person! I'm doing Weight Watchers (counting points) as well as Somersizing, and when I weighed in I had lost 7.6 lbs. And the food is wonderful and good for you! Unbelievable! I wish I could tell everyone about this way of eating. I want to go up to people in the grocery store and say "Don't buy that fat-free junk, there's a better way!" The public has been sold a load of BS by the diet industry. I don't know where the idea came from that fat is bad for you and fat-free processed junk food is good for you, but this book will change your way of thinking!I think what worked for me is that I cut everything out at once... caffeine, sugar, white flour, and basically anything refined or processed. I'm not really sure whether my success is due to Suzanne's food combining theory, or that I just cut out carbs and sugar and started eating more veggies and lean meats. But I'm not going to mess with what seems to be working. The first few days I had a pretty bad headache, but now I feel great. I eat till I'm full and I have no sugar or carb cravings. I made it through Halloween and didn't eat a single piece of candy, which I couldn't believe, but I just didn't want it after reading about what sugar does to you! Now I have more energy than I've had in years, I sleep better at night, it's not as hard to get up in the morning, AND... here's the best part, I don't have the terrible stomach problems I used to have. Please buy this book and follow this program if you're tired of being fat and eating diet food!
Rating: Summary: serious cravings but will give it a second chance Review: I saw Susan on an American chat show and her volunteers in the audience who had done the diet were quite an inspiration. However, I tried the diet for 4 days and had such bad headaches due to carbo, sugar and caffeine craving I stopped. But... now I've read all of the reviews and found others who persevered with the cravings and felt much better after the first week I am willing to give it another try.(I did loose 4 pounds in the first 4 days.) I agree that Susan could have come up with some more general recipes with readily available ingredients and less information about her 'wonderful family life' - all very nice but was it really relevant ? This food-combining theory defies all the traditional advice we have been taught in Britain and is only just starting to take off over here.I totally agree on eating natural produce rather than all of these fake ' fat free' products, full of dangerous chemicals such as aspartame. The forward by Dr Schwarzbein was well worth reading to understand the concept.( however it is not particularly straightforward though so bear with it). If I can have a figure resembling Susan Somers it will be worth the suffering !
Rating: Summary: Seems to be healthy... Review: Basically, the idea is to eat mostly fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains. She also throws in some time rules, such as eating fruit only on an empty stomach. It seems to be healthy, and I followed everything almost exactly for a month. The only problem is that I don't feel that I've lost any weight, but it could be due to the time of month/year. I went off the diet a few days ago, just eating in moderation. The diet should work for most because it is essentially (like most diets) reduced calorie. If it looks good to you, then I say go for it. There are many other books with similar concepts, but I do like the fact that she incorporates many fruits and grains. I would never recommend Atkins (which I have tried before) or any similar high-protein diet. So, I would recommend that you try this diet for a month or so and see how it works for you. It is one of the easier diets to stick with. In fact, I'm thinking of using this for maintenance once I'm through with the more restrictive plan I'm on right now.
