Summary: Who can drink this much water?
Review: If I drink 1 oz per 2 lbs, that is 110 oz of water per day. That is an insane amount of water and also a ton of water weight. Also, the fluid retention can be dangerous as well as your body cannot keep up getting rid of that much water.

Thus, swelling occurs and pain happens.

I am deeply skeptical. I believe drinking water is good but 110 oz a day?

Summary: Awesome, with 1 small catch
Review: This is a very thorough and well-thought out book, with convincing arguments for the need to drastically alter the way we think about water, thirst, and many potentially thirst-based illnesses. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is truly interested in personal health and wellness.

Here's the caveat: At the end of the book, he provides an alternative explanation for the cause of AIDS which has *nothing* to do with thirst or water. In fact, I found it to be rather judgmental, homophobic, and unconvincing, and I feel that its inclusion in the book potentially compromises the author's credibility. However, I don't feel that his theories on the body's many cries for water are any less valid due to his other controversial ideas, so I still highly recommend this book to just about anyone.

Summary: Good read, but be forwarned
Review: This was an excellent book, educating me on the effects of dehydration and salt depletion. I recommend it to anyone who experiences depression, chronic pain, and insomnia, as that is what it has helped me immensely with just in a very short period of time. Please be forwarned though, that during the AIDS section of the book the author disappointedly interjects his own emotional idea of homosexual behavior. His scientific views and findings regarding this topic are very compelling, but he strays momentarily into a personal belief that homosexuality can be cured, like it is a disease. What frightened me and almost made me discontinue reading the book was the way he approached the subject. In this day and age when there is no shortage of fear and hatred - it does not take much fuel to start a modern day witch hunt. The book still has much value, I only regret that some of the value of the AIDS section information will be lost to people who could learn much from it due to a bad choice of expression.

Summary: WATER - ONE OF LIFE'S NATURAL HEALING SOURCES!
Review: Along with food and shelter, water is one of life's basic physiological needs for survival. Today with the trend of joggers, walkers, cyclists and physical fitness regimes on the rise, we see a good number of people coming and going with bottled water in tow. However, there are those individuals among us who are not "water drinkers" and drink only the occasional glass when nothing else is available. There are also those who drink gallons of tea and coffee believing they replace the body's need for plain, clear water.

While I agree with other reviewers that this book was definitely not up to par on organization and layout, the content was interesting, informative and worth reading. Personally, I have always been an avid water consumer - my mother once told me it cleansed the body and soul. Ideally, I prefer ice cold bottled water, even though the water in our area is of fairly good quality. Water quality means everything. I have travelled to corners of the world where the stench and colour of the water would make "swamp water" look more appealing! That familiar brand of bottled water, found in most stores and available world wide (it comes from "the French Alps") is more costly than others but particularly enjoyable. Served ice cold, with a twist of lime or lemon, it really makes a refreshing drink. For some, perhaps, there is also the psychological element involved, the more one pays for the water, the better it tastes. Whatever your preference, most of us do not drink enough of this natural wonder. "Your Body's Many Cries for Water" will stress the importance of water in relieving many common physical complaints from migraine headaches, arthritis, digestive and constipation complaints, to allergies, hypertension, raised cholesterol levels and chronic fatigue. If you do not mind the author's rather jumbled subject order, the book contains some important facts.

Summary: The whole story first : perspective and a warning
Review: First: Water is the most dangerous substance on earth. It has killed more people than any other cause - then we call it "flooding".

It is also the only finally utterly essential thing we need for life.

The book is very interesting if poorly constructed, but as usual, in most "magic pill" presentations, it is rather simplistic.

1. The stuff that comes out of municipal taps anywhere on earth today is not really safe for you to drink. If it also contains deliberately added toxins like Fluoride or Aluminium ........ So the first point is to know what sort of water we are talking about here.

2. Most Bedouins ( desert dwellers) would be fascinated to read this book. They could cook, drink and wash a whole family on these suggested amounts. :-)

3. The non-Western Medical world thinks too much water is a major problem - and these amounts are way above.

4. Actually the extremely high water intake in the Western world is due to the ingestion of vast amounts of denatured Salt and crystallised Sugar and similar dangerous substances and it is probably a good thing to drink MORE THAN YOUR BODY NORMALLY SIGNALS A NEED FOR, to aid your body in its attempts to eject them. OR you could simply stop ingesting toxic stuff.......

5. Finally, anything that at least starts people thinking about what they are doing to their bodies is a good thing.

SUMMARY: It is an interesting read, but is not a panacea.

Summary: A lot of good information in a disorganized book
Review: I have always drank a lot of water and reading this book reinforced my beliefs and explained most of the why's and how's. However I found the book somehow hard to read due to a lack organization within the chapters. The author jumps from one subject to the other without warning and it is a little difficult to follow. An index would be most welcome too.

I would still recommend this book to anyone wanting to improve their well being. Drinking water makes a lot of sense and it is free.

Summary: Generally good, take care with the chapter on AIDS
Review: Dr. Batmanghelidj has written a generally good book whose core advice of "drink more water" has helped me a great deal physically. For this I would give it five stars. However, the book has two big flaws:

1. Some careful editing, more citations, and an index would improve this book considerably.

2. The chapter on AIDS is problematic. ....

The AIDS chapter focuses not on water, but amino acids. The doctor believes that AIDS is not caused, initially, by a virus, but rather by an amino acid imbalance. This is a debatable hypothesis .... .... Read the chapter concerning the digestive system first (Dr. Batmanghelidj specializes in digestive research, and makes more sense in this chapter), the chapter on AIDS last, and everything else in between.

The core advice of this book is harmless and potentially helpful; take care with the rest.

Summary: Being a rational woman I ask "What do you have to lose?"
Review: As Reviewer: Michael Foudy (mlf2@erols.com) from Falls Church, VA noted Dr Batmanghelidj advise is very simple: "to drink one ounce of water for every two pounds of body weight plus one and one half additional ounces of water for every ounce of beverage I consume containing caffeine, carbonation or alcohol. Do this every day."

Being an educated, rational woman I am not prone to ideas that border to the skeptic on quackery. But this book is serious medical and science information and should be in every community library and every home library. It is that basic and that simple.

Add to the fact I had been diagnosed with Lupus and beginning stages of Fibromyalgia. Then when I sought information in order to make informed decisions on treatment and lifestyle changes all I got was either major pity party and victim mode information or it is mental and one just needs to learn to live with it. Well I refuse to allow anything to stop me from living a full and healthy life so I started to seriously look into lifestyle changes and came smack dab to this wonderful book.

Like way to many Americans I thought if the beverage was "wet" that it was akin to water. And yes I am embarrassed to admit that I have worked in third world countries re: Peace Corps and Doctors Without Borders and know firsthand that clean water projects are #1 as far as preventative health care goes. So this book basically spells this simple fact out. Our bodies need water and as Americans we have such easy access to water with filter systems if needed, and as such we are looking at one of the least perhaps the least expensive preventative as well as healing gift around.

And if you are a woman and have any type of menses pain before during or after, or have had bouts with skin flare ups and urinary track infections and yes yeast infections this book will be the best medicine you ever gave yourself. Not only do I have no signs of the Lupus or Fibromyalgia but since drinking even more water than Dr suggests (because I like water) my joint pain is no more, my skin is healthy,my hair is healthy and my insomnia is gone. And yes, because I drink more water my kidneys function better, thus the toxins are flushed out more and so I have been losing weight easier and faster. My muscle tone is better and the only thing I have had to do was shower twice a day since I sweat from my workouts and need to wash the toxins in my sweat away. And I often ask myself "why did it take me so long to discover such a simple secret to health?"

As a side note, stop and think about how often water is mentioned in history as a healing tool. One need not be religious to realize that water is a basic need in life. That our bodies being mostly water, are akin to a river that needs fresh water flowing thru it at all times.

My only question is this. What do you have to lose and what do you have to gain by trying his simple suggestion?

Summary: It works
Review: My systolic blood pressure dropped 30 points and and my diastolic dropped 20 points--in a week by just drinking a gallon of water a day and taking a 30 minute walk. I found the book facinating. It was a little technical so I will have to re-read some places. But the logic was sound and easily followed. I thought there was too much time spend over discussions concering the rejection of the medical community of the concept. I had come to the conclusion that the medical community and the drug community may not have my best interest at heart years ago, so I would have prefered the space to be more focused on techniques and daily management approaches. But let there be no doubt, this was a book that has changed my life and I am sending a copy to my friends in need. Buy it. (ratchfom@aol.com)

Summary: Incredible Results!
Review: I read this book with skepticism. Could water really be nature's miracle medicine? Yet the facts and case histories of individuals experiencing relief from pain, and in some instances, complete cures demonstrate incredible results. I have begun to increase my water consumption and have shared this remarkable book with my family and friends. Perhaps the "Water of Life" approach is the better way to safeguard and improve ones health.
