Rating: Summary: water is good for you, this book is dicey Review: This book is mediocre at best. I really don't like it when medical doctors cite uncontrolled clincal observations and pretend they are proof of efficacy. Then again, the author does state that his goal is not to convince skeptics, so he fails to convince me.There are real errors in the book. E.g., he cites the affect of Prozac as if it were an MAOI-class drug, which it is not. There are a few other mistakes of this magnitude which I wouldn't normally expect from an MD that tend to make me question the author's credibility. I definitely think the author's opinions about AIDS and HIV are nonsense and have basically no place in this book. It's one thing to remain open minded, and another to dismiss a large body of evidence. But,.... my reservations don't mean that the author isn't right about the importance of water. We all know that drinking more water is good for us. It is possible that drinking quite alot more as the author advocates is VERY good for us, and is very unlikely to be harmful, so why not! The book basically annoyed me, but based on it and my observations of the effectiveness of the water plan on someone I know are enough to make me want to try it.
Rating: Summary: It's True Review: This book was written by a medical doctor who has been published in medical journals. I found that the claims made by Dr. Batmanghelidj worked just as he claimed they would. I found that after following it my knee pain went away, my fibromyalgia went into remission, fatigue and back pain lessened, as did headache, and menstral pain went away completely. Read this book. It could change your life. It is well-written, easy-to-read and filled with common sense. Include testimonies from his patients.
Rating: Summary: A tough read, but worth the effort! Review: Why this book is a tough read: I don't think the author's first language is English, and I suspect that the work is self-published, as proofreading was not a high priority. Why this book is worth the effort: This medical Doctor's message is timeless and 100% accurate, and except for the nominal cost of the book, free to use. I was a skeptic until I took his dare and tried the lifestyle change. I'll never, ever go back!
Rating: Summary: Origin of Man From Salt Water? Review: The overall content of the book is outstanding in understanding the physiological benefits of water and our commitment to drink enough to balance our systems. I have had good results since beginning the goal to drink the prescribed daily amounts vs not drinking any water prior to reading his book. However, there is great concern with the content on page 5 (paragraph one) that explains his position on the role of water. He states: "The role of water itself in the body of living species, mankind included, has not changed since the first creation of life from salt water and its subsequent adaptation to fresh water. From a biblical perspective, man did not come from salt water but from God's creation. (Genesis 1) Thus is the author acknowledging evolution by fish to the development of land animals? Rating: Summary: Ragweed allergy under control Review: I have suffered through ragweed season every October for the past 10 years. Earlier this year, I read Your Body's Many Cries for Water and began drinking lots of water. I have gotten through this ragweed season with no medication. I have had a few sneezing spells after mowing the grass, but that goes away after drinking some water. I have had other benefits as well. For example, I no longer have some nagging joint pains that started around age 40 (I'm 43 now). The book has interesting explanations of how water works in your body. I have not found this kind of information anywhere else. This is one of the most useful books on health I have ever read.
Rating: Summary: The Water Cure Review: While the authors beliefs may seem far out to some, he has certainly hit upon something very interesting. The author states that most disease is caused by dehydration in the body. After reading this book, and reading others like it, I am now fully aware of the benefits of going on the "Water Cure" program. We, as Americans, are scared to death of salt. Millions of people frantically look on the back of Food Labels to see if they are 'allowed' to eat the food because of the sodium content. True, regular table salt is not the best for us. That's why we need to consume sea salt, with the 60 to 80 added minerals, in addition to the sodium. When we do this, we can properly hydrate our bodies, and start curing all of our illnesses. This is a fascinating book, and I urge anyone in ill health to read it. If after reading this book, you are still afraid of sea salt and water, then you have other issues to deal with. I would recommend any book by Wayne Dyer.
Rating: Summary: my own experiences Review: i came to the site to buy this book, so i have not read it yet. i began reading the reviews and felt compeled to share my own experiences with water drinking, when i read negative reviews about feared water retention, and over working internal organs with lots of water drinking. i started dieting 7 months ago. one month into the diet, i began drinking a gallon of clear water a day (for years i was an avid soda only drinker). when i started drinking the water, my weight loss increased by nearly two pounds a week. i have reached my goal weight, and atribute maintaining my new weight to my continued water drinking. when i started drinking water, my problems with constipation, water retention (even during "that time of the month"), and chronic heart burn, literally, disapeared (i've spent a small fortune on over the counter antacides and stool softeners over the years). i immediately had more energy, my skin looks healthier and glowing, my hair is glossy now instead of the dull fuzzies that i was plagued with for years, and never atributed to my lack of proper water consumption, i sleep better, and feel more rested when i get up in the morning. i feel, and know, that i am now in much better health, not only due to my 40 pound weight loss, but the fact that i am now giving my body the amount of water it needs to properly function every day. anyone who says that extra water "cant" be good for you, has not done the proper research. i would suggest they start drinking, and see the results for themselves. the proof is in the pudding. and the pudding is good old H2O! i swear by it now, and praise its benefits to everyone i meet.
Rating: Summary: To the reader in Carlsbad Review: I think you shoudl consider give drinking 110 oz/day of water a fair chance. I weigh 130 lbs. and have been drinking 128-160 oz/day since 1987...perfect health. Kudos to Dr. Batman for educating the world on God's free gift of water.
Rating: Summary: Great Book on the neglected need for Water! Review: I read this book 6 months ago. After reading it I increased my water consumption. Gradully I lost 10 pounds, felt better and had more energy. The Doctor goes into many reasons why we are dehydrating ourselves SEVERELY throughout our life. He gives cues and sensations to look for, biochemical explanations and a whole lot more. Speaking of sensations, I realized after drinking a lot of water for a week or so that I got a NEW sensation...a strange slightly unpleasant metallic taste in my mouth. I never had this before and I strongly believe this is my original thrist sensation (the kind nature intended). Well, read the book, watch out for that metallic taste and enjoy the benefits of drinking more water!
Rating: Summary: Drawing Attention to the Many Values of Enough Pure Water! Review: Before reviewing the book, let me mention that I heard Dr. Batmanghelidj talk and later met him about ten years ago at a conference I attended. During the Iranian Revolution, he was imprisoned along with many members of the Shah's supporters. Because he was a physician, he was often told by the guards to treat the other prisoners. In doing this, he usually had no medicines or instruments. The prisoners often were suffering from stomach ulcers and were cut off from their normal medications. Often, all he could do was to get the patients to drink some water. To his own surprise, water drinking helped many feel better. After a time, it seemed like the effect was stronger than what a mere placebo could cause. After he was pardoned by the new regime, he voluntarily stayed in prison to begin to run experiments testing his informal observations. Since leaving Iran, he has done much research in reviewing the published literature and has conducted further experiments. This book is based on what he has learned since then. I bought the book, and began drinking more water. I found that my weight dropped more than 20 pounds in about four months, I had more energy, and my allergies improved. I also found that I had less desire for caffeine and alcohol. My mood improved, as well. Since then, I have given this book as a gift to dozens of people who described themselves as having the potentially water-related health problems described in this volume. Most of them have reported improvements. I have not had such a positive response from any other health book that I have shared with others. The book's basic point is that our bodies are 75 percent water. Because we are so dependent on keeping this balance (especially in our brains), the body has many mechanisms to conserve water for its most essential uses. When we become too dehydrated for too long, these conservation systems can produce unpleasant and unhealthy symptoms of pain, high blood pressure, depression, and allergies. Most physicians will treat the symptom rather than looking for potential causes. In many cases, water will help. The book explains why for pain from dyspepsia, colitis, false appendicitis attacks, general abdominal pressure, rheumatoid arthritis, back and neck pressure, angina, and headaches. He also addresses water-related mechanisms for helping relieve stress, depression, high blood pressure, high blood cholesterol, excessive weight, asthma, allergies, and diabetes. Although I am not a scientist or a physician, the arguments seemed solid enough to try more water. At the same time, I could see no harm from drinking more water. I believe I have been helped, especially by drinking more water before, during, and after long plane flights. Dr. Batmanghelidj also includes his ideas about how AIDS could be related to body chemistry imbalances in the book. This section does not fit with the rest of the material or to drinking more water, and I did not know what to make of it. The basic problem is that as we get older, we lose our sense of thirst. As a result, unless we pay attention to drinking more water, we won't drink enough. If you are like me, you will find that you have to spread the water out over the day to get the right amount. I usually drink one eight-ounce serving at a time. I prefer bottled water, and often put fruit slices in it for variety. But when bottled water isn't available, I let tap water sit long enough for the chlorine to leave. I also choose clear soups, and vegetables and fruits with lots of water content when they are available. This reduces how much has to be drunk as water. Many people who drink little water tell me that they do not have access to clean rest rooms during much of the day. For those individuals, learning to time water consumption is critical. The book's main drawback is that it doesn't have the editorial simplification that we are accustomed to seeing in health books. As a result, you will probably find it rambling. I graded the book down one star for this quality. After you finish having your first glass of water to help you start enjoying life more, I suggest that you think about whether or not you are getting enough sleep. Although most of us can get along with very little for a while, doing that too long simply produces stress and other debiliating side effects. I found that water drinking helped me sleep better, and enjoy feeling more rested in the morning. I hope you do too! To your good health!
